  1. Not claiming they should give him away, but pointing to a .310 OBP against a platoon advantage should be a strike against him, not something supporting him staying.
  2. Nothing really lost. Segura wasn't here long-term anyway, and Villar should be just as good for now if that's what you're worried about. Seems like a good way to grab a nice prospect. Hill could be flipped for something too.
  3. Alvarez just isn't a fit here now with the signing of Carter. He's as bad as Braun at third base, and he'll be too expensive to be a platoon player; he's even a butcher at first base. He's really just a DH. Jackson I guess could be fine as a someone to be flipped later on.
  4. Even if Trout is the better player, he signed his extension years before hitting free agency. In exchange for getting paid earlier, his total money has to be deflated. Harper in FA will (and should) get a much larger contract that Trout.
  5. Exactly. It's shortsighted for Haudricourt to cite the Brewers' thin catching depth in the minors as a reason not to trade Lucroy. They'd have 2-3 years to address that, and also it's not like free agency won't be a viable option for finding a catcher once they are ready to contend.
  6. Man. Passan is unfunny and not really good at his job.
  7. Not a great development for those hoping to trade Braun. I was thinking the remainder of Braun's contract, which is essentially 5/$105 mil, would be about market value. Gordon is the most similar FA to Braun, so it seems Braun's deal is still above market value.
  8. There is a much bigger correlation between team OBP and winning than Ks and winning. There's almost no correlation there.
  9. When I think of a typical LF/1B, I definitely think of a guy that takes walks.
  10. This is exactly the type of person the Brewers have catered to the last 3-4 seasons.
  11. Just like Friedman, Daniels, Luhnow, Epstein, Zaidi...
  12. One of the biggest fan favorites of the last 15 years was freaking Lyle Overbay, because he has a long o in his name. Some were even mad when he was traded to make room for Prince Fielder. Fans don't need much to find fan favorites. To the people saying, "You can't just trade all your good players," yes, of course you can. And they should. Then like Law was saying, you explain the reasoning to your fanbase. Attanasio is clearly worrying about attendance if they blow it up, but I'm not sure why. He can just slash payroll for a couple years to offset the loss of attendance. The Brewers' rebuild will not take as long as Houston's or Chicago's if it is executed well. When those teams started their rebuilds, they didn't have trade pieces anywhere near as valuable as Gomez and Lucroy, or even Segura. They were strapped with guys like Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Lee, and at least the Brewers' version of that contract is still producing somewhat.
  13. Lohse and Garza aren't going to bring back anything valuable, even before they started sucking. They are no longer impact players, and they aren't cheap. The real value will come from trading Lucroy, Gomez and Segura. If the Brewers are serious about wanting to improve their future prospects, they will all be dealt. Something tells me they aren't, though.
  14. Exactly. The Brewers' farm system is far behind every other team in the NL Central, especially Pittsburgh and St. Louis. They need to turn this season into a top 15 farm system at least, ideally even better.
  15. Lohse, Ramirez, Garza are spare parts. They won't get much more than salary relief for them. If Lohse pitches better, they could maybe get something of value.
  16. The main prize in the Greinke trade was Jean Segura, who was up within a year. The main prize in the Samardzija trade last year was Addison Russell, who was up within a year. The Cubs got Mike Olt, who was up within a year. The Royals get MLB ready Alcides Escobar plus other top prospects for two years of Greinke. Wil Myers was up right away for Tampa after the Shields trade. It is very possible to get impact prospects that are about a year away from breaking into the big leagues for guys like Lucroy, Gomez and maybe even Lind. If they get a few of them, why couldn't there be signs of life in the big leagues by 2017? People have already gone over the Brewers own prospects who should be up by then.
  17. I didn't say that. I'm envisioning that 2017 would look similar to the Cubs this year, where they aren't ready to be true contenders yet, but we'll see a lot of improvement with an outside chance to contend. People will come to watching an exciting young team, even if they finish around .500. What we're tired of is a veteran team that finishes around .500 with no sign of a better future.
  18. People comparing the Brewers situation to the Cubs or Astros of a few years ago are off base. Neither of those teams had one trade chip on the level of Gomez or Lucroy, let alone two. They each had awful contracts to get out from under as well. Trading Gomez and Lucroy would get 4-5 great prospects. You don't need much more than that to have a new wave of talent come through. It would be this year and next, and by 2017 many of them would already be in the big leagues. It's not a long-term thing they'd be looking at.
  19. Wanting to trade Braun has nothing to do with PEDs. His second contract was bad the second the ink was dry. 20+ mil for a late 30s corner outfielder is an awful thing in a market like Milwaukee. If he has a big year, absolutely deal him.
  20. At its inception, a baseball game was won when one side scored 21 aces. The game has changed a lot, and the beanball craze is one thing that needs to go as well.
  21. We hope... I certainly hope not, as Matheny is possibly the worst tactical manager in the league.
  22. He passes the grit test, but he isn't a former catcher. Mixed emotions.
  23. I suppose there's a way that money can be moved that would lead me not to hate this, but I think it's unlikely. Too many things against it: high salary, age/velo drop, and the 2016 option. Having something like $20 mil tied up in Broxton and Papelbon is bonkers for a team like the Brewers. If it was five years ago, maybe, but both of them are past their prime.
  24. I agree with those who said they hope Smith and Thornburg's future is still in the rotation. That's what they've been their entire careers, and they've had a lot of success.
