  1. What sucks is before this season the Brewers could have gotten a king's ransom for Hardy. This bad year is coming at the absolute worst time in regards to his trade value, and makes it very difficult to determine his worth after this season.
  2. Funny, you think the fact that he'd be even more dominant in the NL would help him overlook that.
  3. Dunn truly is that bad. He's a great DH, but there's no reason for NL teams to acquire him. I don't understand why an NL team signed him this year as much as I don't understand why no AL team didn't.
  4. To be fair TLB, Escobar would have similar value due to his defense. Elvis Andrus, a player often compared to Escobar, is valued at $6.1 mil by fangraphs this year despite a .654 OPS. Escobar is likely to have similar value next year based just off his defense.
  5. Yes, very nice, but if you trade Parra you won't accomplish that. What's the rotation next year then? Halladay, Gallardo, Bush, Suppan...? Looper if you bring him back, which doesn't excite me. There's just not nearly as big of an improvement if you lose Parra in a Halladay deal. There's a reason contenders trade prospects for good players. It doesn't make sense to trade off your major league team if you're trying to win now.
  6. Endaround I'd appreciate a "Is J.J. Hardy injured?" thread tomorrow if you would.
  7. Not to be an echo, but this is much less appealing if Parra is included. We want the difference to be between Burns and Halladay, which is astronomical, and not between Halladay and Parra. Plus Parra will still be cheap next year, and the Brewers will need cheap starting pitchers if they have Halladay's salary.
  8. That's probably true, but there were reports that the Angels asked about him awhile ago. He's someone I'd feel more comfortable breaking the bank for, which is only why I mentioned it.
  9. Yeah, I don't see Lee costing much less than Halladay if any. If we're going to make a huge offer for someone, I'd actually be inclined to make a play for Dan Haren before Halladay or Lee. He'd be a Brewer long term. Reports from about a month ago said Arizona might at least consider offers for him.
  10. No kidding. I saw Jenkins, Hart and Gross and thought, "So they sat Braun this game?" Remembered after a minute that, oh yeah, Braun used to play third.
  11. Al, then why did they make an offer to the Mets for a quantity over quality deal? It's seeming that they aren't going to get what they wanted. They may have waited too long to trade Halladay.
  12. If we are to believe Jon Heyman, the Mets rejected an offer of Fernando Martinez, Bobby Parnell, Jon Niese and Ruben Tejada for Halladay. Color me underwhelmed for Toronto if that's an offer they're making themselves.
  13. "The Brewers will be lucky to get a .270 AVG/.350 OBP kind of line out of Lopez, let alone the vast gulf in SLG between a player of Gamel's abilities vs. a player of Lopez's abilities." I have to disagree. I think .270/.350 is about what should be expected from Lopez. I'd say they'd be lucky to get a .300 avg/.370 OBP.
  14. Also, 76-71 against everyone but Pittsburgh in 2008 is actually quite good.
  15. I'm pretty shocked by all the people who don't think Halladay makes the Brewers a playoff contender. They have an outside shot at the playoffs without making a move. The Brewers would instantly be the favorite to win the division with Halladay. I also don't see Gamel as an "absolute star." That's what Braun is. Gamel should be a good player--an above average third baseman--but I don't see anything that should lead people to believe he'll be an elite player.
  16. Upton's potential is off the charts. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't top three.
  17. In my opinion, there's no chance whatsoever that any team takes on Suppan's awful contract. There will be literally dozens of better options, including calling guys up from the minors who may not even be as good.
  18. They also have a good defense. Franklin Gutierrez is outstanding in center.
  19. He's been starting the last few weeks, so stretching him out doesn't seem to make sense as a reason.
  20. You can find flaws in any simulation, but this has the least I've seen. It's by far the best one I've played, and I find it to be much more in depth than Baseball Mogul which I played a few years ago. I'm hooked and spend more time on my league's site than I care to admit.
  21. I have to agree with those saying most people aren't offering enough. I don't see Toronto giving up Halladay for any deal that doesn't include two of Gamel, Escobar and Lawrie, plus others. We're talking about a year and a half of the best pitcher in baseball. If the Brewers acquired him, they'd instantly be favorites to win the division. The Brewers keep Halladay for a year and a half, have to great chances to make a playoff run, and then either re-sign Halladay (probably a long shot) or get a couple picks for him when he walks. The more I think about it, the more I'd like to see the Brewers do it. I think they could manage without giving up both Gamel and Escobar--it could be one of them along with Lawrie as the two main pieces. I'm not sure if this has been posted in this thread, but fangraphs has a good article on Halladay's value. It implies that a deal like this would be worth it for the Brewers. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/roy-halladays-trade-value/
  22. Baltimore is 13th in baseball in runs scored. They've scored more runs per game than the Brewers.
  23. Just as a side note, the Orioles actually have a pretty good offense. Their pitching is what's kept them down.
  24. I love Halladay. He's probably the best pitcher in the game. I just think that if the Brewers are going to make a great offer for Halladay, they should do it for Haren instead just because he's under control longer. Bob Loblaw, great user name.
  25. He makes more sense than Halladay because he's just a fraction of the price. Problem is they won't be able to get Bedard much before the trade deadline because Seattle won't trade him when there's just a few games out. As good as Halladay is, if the Brewers are willing to give what it takes to get him, I'd rather see them take that offer to Arizona for Haren. Haren's under team control for a long time, as opposed to only a year and a half for Halladay. Don't see either one happening though, obviously.
