  1. I've seen a lot of comments along the lines of, "Why can't the Brewers build any momentum after a big win?" To look at it from the other side, the Brewers came back to beat Detroit the day after they were no-hit last year. They came back against the Cubs after allowing 19 runs the previous day. Obviously that's just cherry picking a couple examples, but in general, I'm very skeptical of such a thing as momentum in baseball from one day to the next. The idea that you'll play better one day because you had an exciting comeback victory the previous day seems illogical. Am I wrong in believing that momentum doesn't carry over to the next game?
  2. I'm with you. That was awful, and I don't feel that way just because of the result.
  3. I can only speak for myself, but I was not worried before Yo went out, even though the offense had been struggling. Once Yo went out, I figured they were probably done for. The offense won't be this bad all season, but they're dangerously close to falling into a hole they won't be able to climb out of without Gallardo.
  4. My first game of the year tonight. Manny, it'd be swell if you didn't get chased in the fifth inning.
  5. Not trying to be a jerk, but what is the point of discussing whether the Brewers would accept a trade if we're openly admitting the other team would never accept it? As a Brewers fan, would you welcome a Hall for Pujols trade?
  6. Another benefit to not trading Sheets is that you could still try to re-sign him before the season ends.
  7. Only thing is neither one is going to sit on the bench and back up Fielder. I can't imagine Dillon is that much worse than the backup first baseman on most teams. Now if you highlighted "third-hole hitter Joe Dillon" you'd have my support. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. It makes no sense to give Hart the day off against a lefty. Even less when you sit him the same day as Fielder. Oh well. I suppose nothing is too crazy at this point.
  9. It's probably worth a shot to see if Hank's patience has worn on Phil Hughes, but I doubt it. I can't imagine a team offering equal value for Prince Fielder at this point.
  10. Yeah, maybe you just haven't read many threads around here. Many are expecting him to be canned.
  11. Dunn would help the offense a ton. He has a better OBP than anyone on the Brewers. Unfortunately he just doesn't fit with the current defensive alignment unless you're willing to make Mike Cameron a fourth outfielder. Subbing Dunn for Cameron in the outfield is obviously a big defensive hit as well.
  12. Not even sure how much he'd help. He wasn't good with the Yankees last year, and I can't imagine he'd be in baseball shape for at least a month.
  13. Yeah, it's not ideal. You'd have to make Cameron the 4th OF.
  14. Gaudin in his career: 395 Innings,ERA+ of 97, 4.4 ERA, 1.53 WHIP Bush in his career: 660 Innings, ERA+ of 98, 4.64 ERA, 1.268 WHIP They're pretty similar. Now, Gaudin is a few years younger so perhaps there's a bit of a reason to think he'd be an upgrade over Bush, but not enough to trade for IMO. The Brewers shouldn't bother trading for someone who might be good enough to be their 4th or 5th starter.
  15. The Brewers need someone better than Gaudin if they want to contend this season. He's no clear upgrade over anyone currently in the rotation.
  16. The only way you could get the Reds to accept that is if they've never seen Hall play against anyone other than the Reds. I don't see moving Braun back to third as an option. If Hall was traded I'd go with a Dillon/Branyan platoon at third if there are no other options.
  17. A very interesting trade deadline in which we can (hopefully) load up for next season right away. It's not ideal, but at least it will be trading for 2009 help rather than 2012 help.
  18. I don't think it's time to stop talking about it, because it's the reason the Brewers are now a long shot for the playoffs. That isn't Ned's fault. I'd still like to see Yost fired mainly due to last year more than anything he's done (or hasn't had a chance to do) this season. I don't blame him for the hitting woes, but like FTJ said, I wouldn't be upset if he was fired as a result.
  19. Every time I hear about something like this, I feel obligated to announce to everyone within earshot that my brother once broke his hand by punching me. He needed a cast. Whenever I hear someone talk about a time they hurt themselves a while ago and never got it checked out, and "now it clicks/hurts when I bend this way etc." it just helps convince me that I should go to the doctor for something like this.
  20. Everyone keeps talking about the '82 team and the similarities if Yost is fired within the next month, but I don't see them. This is a much younger team than that was, and more importantly, that team didn't lose a great starting pitcher for the entire season.
  21. Even though his innings have been limited, he's throwing a lot of pitches per inning, so it's not even really making a difference. I imagine at some point he'll be given a break from the major league rotation, especially if the team stays around .500 or below as we reach July and August.
  22. I'm normally the guy who's not getting too high or low in May. "It's a long season." "There's still over 100 games left." I want to say the same thing--that the Brewers are just hitting a rough patch, and they will turn it around and get right back in the race--but I can't. The Gallardo injury killed this team, and I don't think they'll be able to overcome it. To even be in position to trade for a starter, they'll need to stay around .500 for another month. If they manage that, I'm not even sure I want them to pay what it would take. The farm is already thin, and a trade for a top starter would likely deplete it. It really looks like 2008 is a lost cause. Nothing like having the highlight of your season occur on May 1. This is depressing.
  23. Zito hasn't been average in at least two years, and he has the worst contract in baseball. No thanks. I honestly don't really even see a solution. What could they possibly do to kickstart the offense? Switching Braun and Fielder in the lineup didn't matter. Switching Hall and Hart in the lineup didn't matter. Outside of promoting Branyan or getting Joe Dillon more playing time, I don't see much--and neither of those two moves would make much of a difference anyway.
  24. I didn't mind when he led off with a 460 ft home run the other day. That'd be cool too.
  25. I'll buck the trend with some optimism. Bush and Villanueva will each make it through six innings, and the Brewers will win the series.
