  1. Upton had an .898 OPS last year at age 23. He has a ton of value, even after three mediocre months.
  2. Definitely agree.
  3. On the topic of Teheran, how concerned should we be about his numbers this season? Only 51 strikeouts in 70 AAA innings. Not the dominance you'd be looking for from an elite prospect. He is only 21, but this is his second season at AAA.
  4. Why would the Orioles do that? Their whole reason for getting Greinke is to go for the playoffs, so they wouldn't get rid of their starting shortstop. Machado isn't ready for the majors at all yet.
  5. Would probably take Gallardo+Ramirez/Hart and more. They would probably want guys younger though, so I don't think the Brewers have what it would even take.
  6. Assembling bullpens has actually been one of Melvin's strengths with the Brewers. This is the first truly bad one in a while, at least to the best of my memory.
  7. I am amused by these fans of other teams talking about giving Greinke a "48 hour window" to sign an extension. Why in the world would he sign an extension now, with a brand new team no less, when he's three months from free agency?
  8. The Brewers have to be really confident that someone like Arrieta, Britton, or Matusz would turn it around. Otherwise, it could very well be trading Greinke for a replacement-level starter, which would be disastrous. I wouldn't feel good at all about one of them headlining the package. I wonder if we might see something like Alexi Ogando/Neftali Feliz. If the Rangers really don't want to give up any of their top three prospects, I could see that. It fits Melvin's MO of looking for win-now guys too.
  9. I get so frustrated when people question Sheets' toughness. 2004 he had a Cy Young caliber season over 237 innings, and he did it with a herniated disc. He was fourth in MLB in innings from 2002-2004. Before his injuries, he was a horse.
  10. I like the guy who says he could stomach giving up Schoop IF Greinke signs an extension.
  11. Yeah, Bundy is the best high school pitching prospect since Kershaw. He won't move. Machado was the first thing I thought of though when they said no pitching. He'd be a great prize by himself, and I'd even throw in another smaller piece to get him. Something like Schoop, Matusz, prospect doesn't interest me much. That's quantity over quality.
  12. Don't you think Gallardo would have more trade value than Greinke simply because of all the years of control left on his contract?
  13. I agree with Russ. I think he's grown on me a bit more, but his calls of big plays often leave something to be desired. I agree I like him "filling in" on Uecker's innings, and I like his willingness to use some more stats than RBI and wins.
  14. http://www.rebuild-from-depression.com/pictures/Busters/HallandOats.jpg We could have so much fun with Photoshop.
  15. Yeah, I don't see anyone here bringing back anything above maybe a C prospect (possibly K-Rod). If they want good returns, it needs to be Greinke, Marcum, Hart, Axford, etc. Out of those, I'm sure Melvin would only consider Greinke and Marcum.
  16. I agree that Greinke is probably the better pitcher, however, the Brewers shouldn't pay him more than what Cain got; they can't support that contract. My point was that they can't just say, "Oh, we need to keep him" and then inevitably lose him to a higher bid.
  17. And when someone offers him more than Cain money?
  18. Might be harder to shop Greinke now that he isn't an All-Star.
  19. Really rooting for him. Still will be a starter, it sounds like.
  20. HiAndTight, a suggestion: trim down your posts a bit. You seem to have good things to say, but if others are like me, they find themselves reading for a bit and skipping the rest. Just a good-natured suggestion. Anyway, I'd trade Gallardo for Profar, but I really doubt Texas would. Gallardo has pretty much settled in as a good pitcher, but not elite or even great. I don't think you're getting back a super-elite prospect for that, even one who's still young and cost-controlled. I would be open to trading Gallardo, though, because even if they can't get a Profar, he would still bring back a lot.
  21. If this is the type of return they're looking at, the Brewers really shouldn't trade Greinke. Minor or Jurrjens shouldn't have more value than the picks the Brewers would get for Greinke. I refuse to believe they won't find one team to pay a good price. The Dodgers gave up Carlos Santana for Casey Blake. The Indians gave up all that for Ubaldo Jiminez. Texas got a top 100 guy for Mike Adams. The Giants gave up Zack Wheeler for three months of Carlos Beltran when they knew they wouldn't get any comp picks for him. They should be able to get at least one truly impact prospect who is within two years of MLB. If not, there's no reason to trade Greinke.
  22. I'd definitely put the Tigers near the top. They have a need on a team looking to win, and they have some good prospects.
  23. Yeah, I definitely remember the rumors as Cain for Fielder and Hart for Sanchez. I don't really understand why Martin Perez is rated so highly. He hasn't dominated, or really even done well, at any level above A ball. In 84.1 innings, he has just 49 ks and 38 BBs this year at AAA. Why would the Brewers take him as a centerpiece? Leonys Martin is another guy from Texas I like that might not have been mentioned here. They're truly stacked. I'm totally fine with packaging more with Greinke to increase the return--someone like Axford, K-Rod, Morgan or Aoki.
