  1. The write up on him says works 89-91 or so. MLB's writeup says 90-94. He's touched 95 today. Pretty sure the 89-91 is from a year or two ago. Either way, from the 2nd inning on he's been 92-94 which is more than enough given the deception with his fastball.
  2. I was a little worried when Peralta started out 89 in the 1st inning. Now he's regularly throwing 93-94 and has touched 95. Guess he just had to warm up a bit.
  3. JJ is now top 5 in fWAR among all MLB relievers (Hader is #1). He's also #2 in ERA among qualified MLB relievers (Brian Duensing is still at 0.00) while being 8th in IP. While others previously mentioned are falling off the leaderboard, JJ is staying strong and pitching in high leverage situations. If he maintains a sub-1 ERA for another 6 weeks, he's going to be hard to keep off the AS game. Or at the very least, he'll get a ton of press as the "I can't believe that guy didn't make the team" guy.
  4. Hiura's in the field tonight!
  5. Villar is 2 for 11 against Kuhl and Perez is 0 for 7, so probably playing matchups today with Sogard (who is 2 for 3). He also may not have had a hit yesterday but still made quite an impact at the plate (even if it was just taking bad pitches).
  6. Cain and Yelich both sitting at an OPS of .832 after today's game.....not too shabby.
  7. Can't imagine this being the thought going through someone's head right now.
  8. Haha someone at Fox Sports Wisconsin is doing the Lord's work, showing that Dubon is on a long hitting streak with Sogard up to bat.
  9. It took him a while but it's nice to see this Santana back.
  10. Hader's bringing the heat tonight. 95-97 with the fastball, as if it wasn't hard enough to hit already.
  11. Maybe you try that if Sogard is due up, but not Shaw. Totally valid counterargument.
  12. I don't have that much of a problem with it. It was a very close play at the plate and the offense has been scuffling, Cain was trying to steal a run and if Frazier had paused for just a moment, Cain would've scored. Doesn't always work out.
  13. They'll need a 5th starter again next Saturday the 12th, so Davies should be ready to go by then.
  14. Just saw that they're just moving guys up a day since we have the day off today (and Monday), so not sure if we actually need a 5th starter. I don't think Logan is ready to be activated by tomorrow, so maybe someone like Choi?
  15. Guessing Woodruff gets the start, but maybe they let Suter do it and call up an extra bat.
  16. Hader/JJ are in the top 5 NL relievers in IP, JJ is 3rd among qualifying relievers in ERA (Hader is 15th with a 1.00 ERA, so lots of great relievers thus far). JJ falls way behind Hader in terms of K/9 and FIP/xFIP/DRA (very surprised that JJ's DRA is like 5-something). Similar to Travis Shaw last year, JJ deserves an AS game berth but there just might be too many talented relievers ahead of him. If 6 relievers make the AS game for the NL, right now I'd probably go with (not my choices but likely selections): 1. Josh Hader 2. Wade Davis (most saves with 11) 3. Brad Boxberger (2nd most saves with 10) 4. Jeurys Familia (3rd most saves with 9, ERA under 2) 5. Brandon Morrow (hasn't given up a run yet and throws heat) 6. Adam Ottavino (same numbers as JJ essentially but much higher K rate, much lower FIP/xFIP, roughly same number of IP, and his stuff is just off the charts nasty) Carl Edwards Jr is also doing what JJ has done in terms of numbers but with better peripherals and way more K's. The problem is once you open it up to non-closers, the options expand dramatically and there are a lot of good relievers out there. Watching JJ this year has been something special and his grit and determination isn't shown in the basic numbers, and I agree that he's absolutely worthy of being an All Star, but I just don't see it happening this year particularly with Hader already likely taking up a spot. Now if Knebel comes back and isn't as effective and JJ starts to get every save opportunity in the 9th and starts racking up saves? Then maybe, but that seems unlikely given how CC has run the bullpen thus far.
  17. The most exciting thing about the bullpen is that, while bullpens are finicky and you can't assume the same level of performance year to year, we have control over all of these guys for multiple years: Control after 2018: - Knebel: 3 years - Jeffress: 2 years - Hader: 5 years - Williams: 5 years - Barnes: 4 years - Jennings: 1 year - Albers: 1 year Not to mention all the minor league depth and an option next year on Logan (which I have to assume we are unlikely to pick up at this point unless he is really good when he comes back).
  18. Melendez can't say inning correctly and Augustine still says "Jeffers". Ugh.
  19. JJ just needs a dominant high strikeout lefty in the bullpen with him to bring out his best, I guess. Speaking of which, Will Smith made his season debut today with the Giants, 1 IP, 1 BB, 2K.
  20. Our 3/4 for the rest of the night is Phillips/Perez...hope that doesn't come back to bite us.
