Counsell has been a good manager this two game series aside but a baseball manager doesn't have the affect that the GM does or the coach in a sport like football does. The fact that Ned Yost won a World Series tells you that the manager of a baseball team isn't worth breaking the bank for.
I think Miley pitched so well that he priced himself out of Milwaukee. He will likely land a one or two year deal for at least 10 million per season and we certainly won't be the team giving that to him.
Weren't you the one that predicted Stearns to the Yankees because that was about as correct as any Counsell to Toronto rumors. He is either staying with the Brewers or going to the Mets.
I would definitely trade Burnes as long as someone is willing to give us at least a decent return. With Adames probably not having much value on the market we will probably be forced to bring him back for one last season because Turang just cannot be handed the shortstop position until he shows something with the bat.
We will probably be looking at a similar roster next season hoping to win a weak division but having no real chance of winning the world series.
We won't spend what it would take to get a legitimate middle of the order bat. The best they will do is bringing back Santana or foolishly exercising the option on Canha who should be gone.
No but there was a rumor in one of the threads about him not getting along with Arnold. I think its all about money and the opportunity to win with an owner willing to spend whatever it takes. I'm sure it would mean more to him to win in Milwaukee but he probably feels he's maxed out what this team can do given its extreme financial limitations.
Counsell will be the highest paid manager in the game and have access to the highest payroll as well. Of course he will have to live in New York but with the money he will be getting paid he can avoid most of what makes New York a horrible place to be.
Something tells me that Counsell and Attanasio don't have the greatest of relationships and that Counsell wants out. Stearns always wanted to go back home but this is home for Counsell and it seems like he can't wait to leave.
Attanassio has taken this franchise as far as he possibly can but its really time for him to sell to someone with deeper pockets like Elon Musk who I'm sure would love to own this team.
Quote from Counsell from the athletic "I'm not under contract, so if other people ask, I'm not going to ignore it". He's gone not that I care right now.
Craig will be announced as the Mets manager as early as Monday. He sees the writing on the wall and will go be the highest paid manager in baseball with the highest team payroll.
