  1. We were a first place team that essentially waived the white flag on the season.
  2. Stearns has done a very good job overall since taking over but he has been nothing short of awful since at least the 2021 trade deadline and the Hader trade was as bad as it gets.
  3. Don't want to derail the game thread too much but just wanted to send out my best wishes to anyone who lives or has family in southwest Florida after the hurricane did so much damage. I believe user @Puggermay have mentioned living in Naples so just wanted to send best wishes out to you. Personally I have family in Ft Myers and Naples and things are not good at all. As disappointing as this season has been and I for one have not enjoyed it at all its still Brewers baseball and we will all miss watching these games when the season ends. Hopefully the team pulls off a miracle and makes the playoffs but if not there is always next season which hopefully is a more enjoyable season for us all. Go Brewers!
  4. I missed the game today how did McCutchen do. Going by the game thread he must have done well since Hiura single-handedly lost the game as he does every time he plays and McCutchen Is consistently carrying this lineup.
  5. Luis Cessa is starting in place of Minor who is on the injured list. Maybe Counsell can wake up and put the teams best hitter against righties in the line up in place of his pet McCutchen.
  6. That aging veteran to be signed for 2023 is the same one currently on the roster McCutchen. Everyone seems to think its a foregone cnclusion that he won't be back but I'm guessing he will be if Counsell is still managing this team.
  7. Counsell knew he was setting Keston up to fail facing one of the best pitchers in baseball. Now that he had a struggle he can go back to his favorite player McCutchen the rest of the season. This idea that McCutchen is out after this season is way off base and I would expect him back if Counsell decides to return himself which I think is a question at this point. For some reason the same one or two guys love to rip on Hiura who I still believe has the highest OPS against right handed pitching on the team but have nothing negative to say about McCutchen who has been far worse against righties all season yet plays nearly every game against them.
  8. Its completely inexcusable to me that that the Brewers never approached Burnes with an extension offer over the last few years. He is the best starting pitcher this organization has ever produced and he was probably affordable if we offered a good deal to him a couple of years ago before winning the Cy Young award. We certainly should have made an effort to get both and certainly at least one of Burnes and Woodruff signed long term. At this point we more than likely missed our chance with Burnes but we certainly had the opportunity to try to get something done with him. The team should have offered him a good long term contract and if he said no at least we made an effort. No one would have blamed the team if they made a real attempt to sign Burnes long term but not even making that effort is what is infuriating.
  9. I could understand not playing Hiura if they had someone better but while Keston crushes righties McCutchen flat out sucks against them so sitting the better hitter against righties makes no sense whatsoever.
  10. We all know that Hiura has not been given a fair chance this season but you apparently have no ability to disagree with any moves this team makes even when they are clear mistakes.
  11. They should just release Keston Hiura at this point. The way this guy has been treated all season by a team that can't hit is disgusting.
  12. No disrespect intended at all but do we really have a lot of talent on this team or do we only have a few premium pitchers with little talent in the way of position players as I currently see it. Is there even one everyday player on this roster that you would be upset if they weren't on the team next season. It most likely won't happen but I am in favor of trading both Burnes and Woodruff if the returns are what we expect and not the underwhelming package that we received for Hader. Its more than ok to take a step back next season and be prepared to contend again in 24 as coming back with a similar team next season is not the direction the team should go. Most people get offended when I say this but the team should either sign Stearns long term or let him go after this season ends as a lame duck executive should not be handling business going forward.
  13. Offense, defense, and pitching have all been bad but saying the offense has been good is ridiculous. This team has not been good at any phase of the game this season and its why they won't be a playoff team. No McCutchen was not a good signing but this was not a playoff team regardless so it really made no difference.
  14. I've been saying this for awhile but I predict Counsell retires after the season and takes a front office position. He has look disinterested all season and has really done a poor job though I don't think he deserves to be fired.
  15. A big problem is that we never had any position player prospects to supplement the strong home grown pitching staff which forced us to sign free agent scraps like McCutchen.
  16. There is this new thing called trades to get better players but since I am not a GM I do not know who was available. Just as Adames and Rowdy were acquired in trades there were probably guys available that we don't know about and never will but the job of a GM is improving weaknesses and we didn't do nearly enough to improve a lineup that was not nearly good enough to support what looked to be a championship level pitching staff going into this season.
  17. If it were up to me I would move at least one of Burnes or Woodruff and possibly both if the offers are impressive enough. Coming back with nearly the same team won't cut it. First on the agenda needs to be resolving the David Stearns situation which means either extending him or letting him go. Its just not smart to have a lame duck GM looking to walk making moves that affect the long term future of an organization he knows he won;t be a part of. The cut and paste acquisitions of guys like McCutchen have to end. We aren't winning a championship with washed up veterans hitting cleanup so lets move on. Taking a step back to ensure a brighter future for the team is the way to go and what I would like to see but I expect an offseason similar to last year bringing back most of the same group that has flailed away for most of the season.
  18. This season was doomed last offseason when ownership went "over budget" to bring in McCutchen thinking that was a move to put us over the top. The lineup was never going to be good enough and then the pitching and defense regressed leaving this a mediocre to bad team.
  19. This team is not a true contender for the rest of the time that we have Burnes and Woodruff under contract so the time has come to move one or even both next offseason. I just hope that either Stearns signs long term or leaves this offseason because we cannot have a lame duck GM making moves that will affect this franchise going forward.
  20. We can break down the numbers any way you want but anyone that thinks this is a good offense is crazy. There isn't one guy in this lineup that fans of other teams say they wish they had on their team. Besides Hiura who I hope gets the full time DH job next season there isn't one other position player that I can say I really want back next season.
  21. I hope the Brewers score lots of runs and win but what makes Davies a bad person. He certainly seemed alright when he was on the Brewers.
  22. McCutchen hitting third everyday is another stupid move by this manager.
  23. If Counsell was actually playing Hiura against all righties you might have a point but that isn't happening and if you want to pick out Hiura for his struggles against lefties what about Wong who hasn't hit them either.
  24. Of course Hiura goes back to the bench, Its a lefty starter but Hiura really should be playing everyday regardless.
