  1. Counsell is very stubborn when it comes to veterans and its a big problem. At least it looks like Taylor will be the primary CF going forward but McCutchen just plays everyday no matter what.
  2. These injuries are really adding up and testing our depth which we are learning isn't very good specifically on the pitching side. We really need Adames back in the lineup. The defense is another area where we have gotten considerably weaker due to the injuries and poor performances specifically from Cain and Wong.
  3. Not only is the bat nonexistent but the defense appears to have slipped some as well. I think both Cain and McCutchen need to be off the roster as soon as possible.
  4. I never saw Corey Ray as worthy of a high pick but it turns out that the draft where we picked him was a really bad one.
  5. I think its more than fair to point out that this team doesn't have one home grown starting position player unless you count Cain who was orginally drafted by the team but acquired as a free agent after being traded to the Royals. Plenty of great players are drafted outside of the top 10. Look where we drafted Burnes and Woodruff. I don't get this thought that top talent is only found at the top of the draft.
  6. Plenty of great players both position players as well as pitchers have been selected late first round and in the rounds following. The idea that we can't land a great talent picking at the end of the round is flat out wrong.
  7. Nothing is going to stop McCutchen from being an everyday player for this team and its disgusting.
  8. I might be mistaken but I think he was hitting 4th against righties with both of them in the lineup.
  9. I guess you've never heard of Mike Trout if you think you can't ever get a great hitter picking at the end of the first round and I'm sure there have been countless others picked far later than that.
  10. No I'm looking for good hitters with power. We had guys like this with Braun and Fielder but havent had any success drafting position players since then. Hopefully some of our current prospects end the drought but we currently have no everyday position players drafted by the team.
  11. There is a difference between offense only players and being an automatic out like Cain is right now. If he was hitting poorly but at a somewhat respectable level we wouldn't be having this conversation but looking like Ben Sheets at the plate is completely unacceptable.
  12. I'm not looking for power only players but we have failed miserably in drafting position players since Braun in 2008.
  13. I don't know what Attanasio will allow financially especially after saying that we had to stretch the budget to overpay McCutchen but I could see Stearns wanting to go all in with him probably having one foot out the door on his way to New York.
  14. Not trying to improve on a guy hitting like a pitcher just because he plays good defense and hits at the bottom of the lineup makes no sense to me. No one is saying to pillage the farm system looking for a slight improvement but not even trying to replace a bat as weak as Cain is crazy. The goal is to win the World Series so just saying its not a problem having an automatic out in the lineup is counterproductive to our end goals.
  15. The odds of smallish hitters becoming the next Puckett or Pedroia is extremely small.
  16. Fantastic post and its exactly why I think this team needs to add a difference making bat like JD Martinez if available.
  17. Win tomorrow and finish the week 4-3 against two good teams on the road and its been a success.
  18. McCutchen will definitely start again tomorrow and bat cleanup against a righty and Hiura will be riding the pine.
  19. Give a manager a "proven veteran" and he will continue to use him even when the stats show he can't hit.
  20. Hiura at the very least has earned the right to start as the DH against all righties.
  21. Counsell has a weakness for veterans so McCutchen will remain an everyday player unless he gets injured.
  22. As great as we have done drafting and developing pitching we have not drafted any big time hitters since drafting Ryan Braun in 2008. Currently we have some guys like Wiemer with promise but we have been awful at drafting inpact bats.
  23. With high picks I prefer players with oustanding tools such as power for hitters and pitchers with strikeout stuff. Maybe this player is the rar shorter player with power but if he is more like a Turang who has little power I would prefer to pass. The front office has earned the benefit of the doubt but players like this don't excite me at all.
  24. Im checking out of this game so good luck and hopefully the Brewers find a way to score at least 6 runs and win.
  25. Mathias is just another AAAA filler like Pablo Reyes.
