  1. This isn't even remotely accurate but please feel free to continue to post drive by pot shots. The Cubs almost never have to sell out and Verlander had multiple years of control which isn't a sell out move. This is just a hideous take.
  2. I was fine with not getting him and said so. Not sure what your point is. We have proof as to what happens when you sell out and blow the farm system wide open. It's called perpetual losing. I'd rather have a chance every year even if it's not a great one than take one big swing in one singular year that is still going to be a crapshoot. I'm just glad DS isn't as short sighted as some on this board.
  3. There is absolutely no question in my mind that I take a team built for long term contention 100 out of 100 times.
  4. How do you know Machado puts them over the top? I don't for certain..but what I am 100% certain of is Manny would have given them a FAR better chance of putting them over the top THIS YEAR, than anyone they would have included in the trade..because it's probable not a single one of them is even on the MLB roster right now, or if they are..they are not major contributors. It's playing the odds, and in this instance..what they would have given up, had far less odds of being significant contributors to their success this year than Manny would have. It's that simple. Yeah, I mean, who cares about next year......or the year after.......or the year after that.........
  5. Still couldn't do it without including MLB talent or a 3rd team to send that MLB talent to. Piece of cake, do it all the time on my Nintendo.
  6. How do you know Machado puts them over the top?
  7. Yeah, but he probably would have gotten Kevin Mench in addition to Manny.
  8. Then I'm glad he isn't our GM.
  9. I've seen reports of of Logan Forsyth coming back to offset the money. Been reported since then though that he's not, all Minor leaguers going back to Baltimore. Yeah, don't know how they are going to offset the tax then. Maybe they won't. Maybe they have other deals set up to shed salary, who knows.
  10. I've seen reports of of Logan Forsyth coming back to offset the money.
  11. That was a terrific trade yes...He STOLE Yelich. However, we will never know, but let's say it came out that DS wasn't willing to include Woodruff, Peralta OR Burnes in the deal, and had he been willing to include any one of them, he would have gotten Machado...isn't that being negligent?? You can part with one of them. No, you can't. At least not for a rental player. In any case, I doubt the Brewers came in second without including one of Woodruff, Peralta or Burnes.
  12. Where is this pressure coming from? Counsel isn't going anywhere. Stearns isn't going anywhere. The majority of the players will be back. The fans will still come. I just don't see the pressure.
  13. I wonder what the likely hood is that Burnes was in the deal (despite reports) and it still wasn't good enough?
  14. If the price really is two top 100's plus two more in your top 30 (of a good system), then the Dodgers can have him.
  15. Honestly, I don't think they do much. If they were not going to pony up for Machado (or one of top FA pitchers in the off season) then they won't pay the price for lesser rentals like Dozier. If the right deal comes along for a controllable piece then they may pull the trigger on a bigger deal. I mean, we know the MO by now. Stearns is going to set his value and he won't give in (which isn't a bad thing). I see some marginal upgrades like last year but not much more than that. Machado was the big swing.
  16. I always forget which factors in more in the WAR formula- spark plug or gritty veteran? Uh, grit.....duh!
  17. I refuse to accept that as factual......ever!
  18. Dozier is better than all of them and I believe he has been hitting like his old self of late. I think Manny goes for more than you were predicting and I think Dozier does too. Manny is an elite talent, there was no good precedent for what he'd get. Dozier is different, he's marginally better than the guys I mentioned at best. I would actually argue Gennett right now is better than Dozier. Whether there was a precedent or not you were pretty clear and firm on both this board and the Oriole board about what you thought Manny would bring. If current reports are even close, you underestimated. I suspect you are underestimating the market for Dozier as well. Time will tell in the end.
  19. Castro hasn't played SS in almost 4 years. He was an average defender back when he played it. I can't imagine he'd be any better than throwing Brad Miller out there consistently. What's the point, then? I agree. That looks like the definition of making a move just to make a move.
  20. So the Brewer equivalent looks like Lutz, Diplan, Carmona and Supak. Maybe I'm a little heavy there but that looks close. I don't know who the MLB player would have to be to offset the salary but maybe Thames?
  21. This whole thing....just....
  22. Dozier is better than all of them and I believe he has been hitting like his old self of late. I think Manny goes for more than you were predicting and I think Dozier does too.
  23. Dodgers can offer more because they have more and can afford to buy whatever they don't have more of. Actually on the surface they are not going to be able to take on all Manny's contract without dumping salary elsewhere because they want to stay under the luxury tax. Will be interested to see how they work this in. Sounds like Forsythe going back to make the money work. That is in addition to May and Diaz plus two more in their top 30. that is a petty decent haul if true and certainly more than a lot of folks thought.
