  1. I mean.........I thought it was funny.
  2. Why would prices fall? I thought the issue was that FA prices are too low. A trade candidate isn't going to get all that, if any, less valuable at the trade deadline. Heck, might even get more expensive as trade targets tend to do at the trade deadline. We are way to close to spring training for teams to start drastically dropping prices for no apparent reason.
  3. They CAN make numerous small moves, but they won't. Realize you don't want to waste your nickels on bubblegum when you may need that nickel to buy that candybar. Once the candybar is sold, then you buy your gumballs. Not what I meant but we can go with your analogy. Are they buying a candybar for spring training?
  4. SP. Are there any moves they feel they CAN make before spring training starts? Are there any moves they feel they WILL make before spring training starts?
  5. Excellent question. They really do want to upgrade SP big time, but the prices are extremely high (as of right now). Stearns is very cost conscious. If compete means race for the wild card..... yes. Playoffs....no. Thanks. This is pretty much what I figured. I still think there are too many balls in the air SP-wise for the Brewers not to come down with any of them. Wanna bet?
  6. Is there reason not to? Yea, what HighHeat has been saying that we're dead set of adding top notch FA SP. LOL! Ok.
  7. Garcia helps this team not at all.
  8. I'm sorry if I read that the wrong way. But saying "Yeah, it's probably time started coming to grips with the notion that this is the team that will start the year. A team with some offense but not enough to overcome a weak pitching staff" comes across that you are frustrated. Which I totally get. After making the big outfield moves that they did, I don't have faith that the current makeup of the pitching staff is going to measure up, either. But I'm still hopeful/optimistic that there is time for a move/moves to be made. I don't know what you think is so different between what you said and what I said but you've managed to both quote and paraphrase me in the same post.
  9. Is there reason not to?
  10. I get that you are frustrated that something hasn't happened yet, but there are seemingly too many irons in the fire pitching wise for them to walk away empty-handed. I would be very, very surprised if they went into Spring Training with the current pitching staff as-is. And Stearns' interview over the weekend with Haudricourt? Complete smokescreen. I mean, what's he supposed to say? "Well, we have the foundation of a deal in place for Chris Archer, but I'm hung up on whether to include Brett Phillips. I sure hope no one else hops in while I'm deciding! Hey, are you taping this?" Why are you under the impression I'm frustrated? Just because I have an opposing view point doesn't mean you have to classify that as something negative. What Stearns said may or may not be a smokescreen but you have no clue. Either way, there is enough out there to draw a fairly stable conclusion if your being logical.
  11. They didn't give away $80M and 5 prospects so they could put together a team that might challenge for the wildcard if everything fell correctly. Patience. Big move or moves are coming. Oh, I'm sure that was not the intention they set out with, but it is increasingly likely that this is what they have.
  12. Amen! This has everything to do with agents not wanting to lose face after misreading the market and making promises they can't keep. Teams can pull their offers if they get annoyed and choose to. But to have all GM's get on a conference call and all agree to pull their offers to screw over the player...are you seriously proposing that? No, I doubt that happens. I was just referring to the part about agents whining because they aren't getting what they want.
  13. People are assuming Jimmy is coming back mid-season and that he is going to be the Jimmy of last year. Together, that is a very big assumption.
  14. That would be the definition of collusion, which the owners are on the fringe of being accused of... I'll never understand that. Accuse someone of collusion because they won't let you perform highway robbery Amen! This has everything to do with agents not wanting to lose face after misreading the market and making promises they can't keep.
  15. Because a trade hasn't happened for a week and no FA's have signed anywhere that means the team is set? Yeah, that. Certainly not the multitude of other articles/quotes that indicate this is what they have. Or we could go with the wild, unsubstantiated speculation that something is about to happen............
  16. I don't think the pitching staff is all that weak. It could be improved for sure but it's not awful. Compared to what? Dodgers? Nationals? Cubs? I they are serious about winning a World Series, that rotation will not cut it, so yes, weak.
  17. Yeah, it's probably time started coming to grips with the notion that this is the team that will start the year. A team with some offense but not enough to overcome a weak pitching staff.
  18. Fair is what the market says is fair. I'm getting tired of the players and agents whining about it all. The economics of employment are changing in MLB much as they have in society in general. Deal with it. Except that the players share of revenue by percentage continues to grow smaller and smaller, year by year. The "market" should dictate that the players could be paid handsomely, and then some at this point (which they are). Players salaries are disproportinately and artificially held down because of the 6 year rule, and then by the time they are able to actually hit the free market, teams are now saying "you're too expensive to pay on the open/free market", which is actually false, based on the reported revenues that teams are making. Its a different philosophy running the show now. The operations folks are valuing productivity differently and are starting to see the folly in paying a guy for past production for the next ten years. The MLBPA negotiated these rules. If agents want to be mad at someone, be mad at player representation. In general, income has become almost exclusively stagnant while industry revenues continue to grow. If the players and their representation failed to see that obvious trend, or thought themselves immune, then that is on them. Let 'em boycott, see how that ends up for them.
  19. Sure adding Realmuto would be a good thing but I would only consider it after having shored up the pitching. Just like acquiring Yelich and Cain, none of it means much unless they get the pitching fixed.

  21. So, 53 pages and the answer is nothing.....nothing is next.
  22. What makes the Cubs the benchmark for free agent decisions? Well they did see the guy up close and desperately need starting pitching and clearly don't want the guy back. You don't think that's a giant red flag? No, see Hayward, Jason. There is so much scouting and video on these guys. There is not advantage just because he was pitching for them.
  23. While at the same time overvaluing guys like Burns and Peralta.
  24. What makes the Cubs the benchmark for free agent decisions?
