  1. Ah, you're right MN Brew. I'm still hoping Cappy can make it to the rotation, but it's highly unlikely that he'd be able to handle the workload after a second Tommy John surgery. I didn't think to include him on the list because in the back of my mind, he's a starter until proven otherwise. Not likely to happen though. Heck, I'd gladly accept Capuano in the rotation as a belated birthday present. Beats the heck out of my two front teeth. Good catch MN Brew. I didn't think to include him, but he probably is, at best, a reliever. Somebody mentioned Shouse as a possibility. Not the worst idea I've heard today. I get the feeling that LOOGY role would be the most we can hope for realistically from Cappy. If Shouse is signed, he would be about a 10 year older version of Capuano, in my opinion and would command more $. I still wouldn't be disappointed to give Shouse an opportunity in the spring if affordable.
  2. Lefties in camp being realistically looked at in Spring Training 2010 and roster designation. Stetter-MLB Narveson-MLB Lofgren-MLB (Rule 5) Halama-AAA Murray-AAA Braddock-AA That's 6 lefties in the running up to this point that are on the radar. Locks (IMO): Stetter Narveson starter or long relief (out of options) Have a Chance: Murray Lofgren Halama Not just yet: Braddock I think it's very conceivable to have 2 lefties in the pen to start the season. I'm thinking Narveson probably gets the 5th spot/long reliever spot as the roster currently stands. The wild card in this scenario is Lofgren. I'm thinking that if Narveson locks up a rotation slot higher than 5th, Lofgren has a good chance if he looks like he belongs during Spring Training. I don't think Riske will be ready to start the season and may just be released with the Brewers having to eat his contract. Am I incorrect with Riske's health situation? Top of my head I think he's at best a 60 day DL candidate right out of the gate. Has anyone had any injury updates lately regarding Riske?
  3. Rock Co. explained it for me. There's a long list of pitchers who got signed to big money, only to see them either not perform well and/or have serious injuries. Sheets, Higuera, and Riske were at the top of my head. I think the Brewers have been snakebit for the last couple decades that way. I just think the Brewers have had more than their fair share of bad luck compared to many other teams. Let's also include high draft picks into this category.
  4. Take off to the great white north, eh?! Take off, it's a beauty way to go.
  5. Thanks homer. I didn't realize agent39 was his agent.
  6. I assure you I'm not a pessimist, but we've heard this from him before. We as Brewer fans and as people in general hope he can put this behind him, but I'm not confident he can. I'm not sure if we know if it's just a habit for him or an addiction. I haven't read the article yet, but I sincerely hope he's getting professional help to at least change the behavior and/or the triggers that cause him to go to the pot. I'd like to write to him and show him support somehow. Is there a way to contact him directly? I hope we here at Brewerfan.net can devise a way to send him a constant stream of letters supporting him. Perhaps if he feels the urge in the future, he might pick up one of our letters instead. Administrators, what do you think we can do to provide support?
  7. I may be in the minority, but I think Counsell can have similar production in 2010 as last year. I like that he finally stopped being stubborn about his wrap-around batting stance, which caused him to be late to the ball, have a slow swing, and couldn't defend himself against anything thrown inside at all. The revisions to his stance, although still a little awkward, have made a big difference and I think the results are proof positive and will continue in the future.
  8. I think we must remember the Suppan deal like the Alamo, just so it doesn't happen again. I know it was to show agents and future free agents that Milwaukee is putting their money where their mouth is as far as attempting to be a player in that market and to show they're making a concerted effort to winning. Don't get me started on past big money contracts that have hurt too, but for different reasons, Sheets, Higuera, etc. Whom else am I missing? Oh yeah, Riske...(pronounced Risky). I think mediocre statistically equates to near and around league average.
  9. I took a look at the Bill James 2010 zips projections and it projects Looper to be the 32nd best free agent starting pitcher. Yikes...even Sidney Ponson rated higher. Interestingly enough, Rich Harden was rated 3rd. That being said, the Mariners and Red Sox are pursuing him hard, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. I think Harden to Milwaukee is going to cost more than the Brewers are willing to spend. www.fantasyrundown.com
  10. "Chucky hacks on 2-0."
  11. I'll probably catch a little flack for this, but I'm wondering if Looper is still an option for next year at a reduced price. At least, he's a healthy arm, home runs aside. I'm not necessarily for it, but I'm just curious if he's an option in Doug Melvin's mind and that. Does anyone have knowledge about this, or have at least heard something regarding him and that?
  12. They're just being environmentally friendly and politically correct by going green. It's not easy being green.
  13. fondy brewfan took the words right out of my fingers. We've been down that road more than once. I think Villy and Parra should start a boy band called The Shyboys. They are the same person right? Like Michael and LaToya Jackson were the same person. What, you didn't know?! I think the Brewers really only have the equivalent of 1-1/2 to 2 starters out of the 5 to 9 or however many they ran out there in '09. Bush was good until the comebacker turned his arm to mush. Soup and Loop were poop. Parra was shooting over Parra. Picking up scrap heapers and pinning your hopes to them is a losing proposition. This is the wrong year to be looking for proven/healthy/affordable starters to bolster the rotation, and it's rotating counter-clockwise, if you get my drift. Hey, speaking of drift...it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Everywhere you go...
  14. Which brings us back to do. (music reference) For those who don't get it, that's do with a long o. We now resume regularly scheduled programming, already in progress.
  15. And, you can watch Suppan sit.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif A very possible win-win situation.
  16. Agreed! It'll be difficult to replace Counsell at hardly any price in this free agent market. Heck, I think it would be difficult to find anyone in trade too who can match leadership, versatility, and yes, production. I just hope he keeps his 2009 swing for the 2010 season. Who's with me on that?
  17. There's a reason the Brewers parted ways with him in the first place. A small market team doesn't trade a prospect like him if they thought he'd be worth keeping as a rebuilding block. His Baseball Reference career comparable is Odalis Perez, with David Weathers a little further down the list. Not terrible types of pitchers to have around, but there was talk in the past about his attitude or demeanor that soured him to Brewers' brass.
  18. Thanks Rillo, I understand and agree with your point now. I still think his confidence is and has been shot for quite some time though. I'd like to see him get his head right so he doesn't have to go down to the minors. He's been used in high leverage situations and is the preferred option for those situations. Unfortunately, just he, Coffey, and DiFelice have been mostly reliable in the pen. More help is needed.
  19. What's FIP again? Villa has been looking like a deer in headlights on the mound for quite some time now. Even when he was pitching well in the recent past, he hasn't had the look of confidence, or is it just me? I liked him best when he struck out Pujols in St. Louis and the Cards thought he was showboating. I'd like to see him show that fire in his eyes again. I wonder if he's working through some soreness that we don't know about. He comes out and doesn't give the appearance that he's ready to compete of late.
  20. I just wish he'd at least even off his feet in the batter's box as opposed to his wide-open stance now. I believe there's too much movement in the mechanics of his swing from the feet up to the follow through. I think he's late on his swings even with average fastballs coming at him. I also think he's not in a position to make solid contact on a pitch unless he guesses the right pitch and location. If you have to guess the right pitch and location in order to make contact, that's two strikes (pun intended) against him right away.
  21. I'm interested. Tell me more through a personal message if you could.
  22. I'm curious to find out if Jim Gantner's name has been mentioned as a candidate. I haven't heard anything, but he's a guy I'd like to see in the mix.
  23. I'm with Jimbo...Sha Na Na's Bowser is the only one I would think of. Perhaps I'm old school though.
  24. Or,"Free Beer" is a name many bands thought of calling themselves too.
  25. Sure it would be, but he's not at 100% yet. Still nursing a sore wrist.
