  1. Another junk for junk proposal. I guess that concludes that Mench is considered junk by his current employer. If this is the case, how about another minor league pitching prospect at least?
  2. I can't ever remember a time where Jon Lieber was anything better than "soft". He's always looked underconditioned/toned to me throughout his career.
  3. Don't forget J.M. Gold too.
  4. They both need more work on their consistency is the only reason I can suggest, and who knows what they get paid, but that could be insentive too.
  5. Yes, it's true the Brewers need a veteran starting pitcher, but Lieber would not be near the top of my choices to be that veteran for all the reasons I've mentioned already. There just has to be something better out there, I hope.
  6. I couldn't agree more JB. The injuries last year made a rotational nightmare, while giving the youngsters a chance. Only one, Villaneuva did well in that opportunity. I believe he did well because he had the strongest mindset coming in. He went in to challenge hitters and not try to nibble and be meek on the mound. The others did a lot of nibbling and also threw a lot of two strike fatties down the middle of the plate to double whammy their chances at failure.
  7. Briggs, you need to remember that sometimes those AAA pitchers were brought up only because it was their regular turn in the rotation on that particular day, not necessarily because they were higher on the prospect totem pole.
  8. I just think this is a trade of junk for near junk with no salary relief. I'm against this trade also because I don't think it helps the team get better, unless subtraction of two players for one is viewed as improvement. Maybe another player from somewhere else has to viewed into the equation, but this is a ho-hum deal. I've mentioned before that Lieber is in decline and will be in his age 37 year next year. He's nearly a right-handed Doug Davis and is 6 or 7 years older for near the same money. Humbug!
  9. I'm with JoeH. The rest is moot.
  10. Lieber is in decline and going to be age 37 next year. Please don't make this trade Doug Melvin. His pitching runs above average was -4 in 2006. I'm willing to believe that Carlos Villaneuva can do better than that next year without giving up anything and adding payroll. Please make this talk go away. I pray to the trade gods to not let this happen. Amen.
  11. No way should the Brewers go after a guy like Jon Lieber, who'll be in his age 37 year next year and is in decline.
  12. This idea stinks like a bad idea, if that makes sense. Neither does this trade.
  13. Not a bad thought, end, but for whom?
  14. I don't think the stars could possibly align to make that happen, could it?! If Doug Melvin actually thought of that strategy and pulled it off, I'd drive to Milwaukee and put a crown on him myself, and you for thinking of that possibility.
  15. You are correct, sir! Go ahead NYY, go ahead Pettitte. Make it happen. I don't hope for injury, but that's a ton of money for a risk such as him.
  16. The Schmidt talk is indeed true. It's a matter of if the Brewers make the best offer or not, IMO.
  17. That's hysterical! I take it you're in favor of any deal, even a rosin bag.
  18. Crawford would be a viable LF option if indeed Hall goes to CF. That would be a very exciting OF with Hart in RF or even Jenks for that matter.
  19. Not necessarily. If a corresponding trade is made elsewhere for someone else's higher salary, that same money is spent. I'm not sayin' it's a probability, but indeed a realistic possibility. I know that sounds crazy, because it hasn't happened since 1982?
  20. I'm excited that the Brewers are finally in a position to deal for some name players. Thanks Doug Melvin! I should send him a Christmas Card saying something like Merry Christmas, eh!
  21. No thanks. You don't give away good young people for a me first player. No way, no how. And that goes for all who want Barry Bonds in Milwaukee. No way, no how.
  22. For those who think more salary needs to be paired for the Brewers to make a Schmidt deal a reality, it's been said already that there is room for a big name free agent. Everything I've read here from the Brewers braintrust has been on record as saying this. I'm hoping someone can bring the source or sources since I'm at work and don't have the time myself, but I stand by what I'm saying.
  23. I'd gladly take Taschner and the salary relief to be used elsewhere.
  24. I've heard the same thing that DHonks has. Of course I got that information here. Just can't remember where.
  25. You beat me to if brewerfan82. Take Freddy Garcia and like it. It's really a no-brainer if given a choice between the three.
