  1. It's good to see Milwaukee put it's horse in the race at least. Even if they don't get him, they're giving notice to the rest of the league that they're a player, at least this year, in the free agent market. Sooner or later, they'll land a guy. Hopefully it's sooner. If Schmidt does make it to Milwaukee, that immediately puts them in realistic contention in 2007. Even if they do land Schmidt, I still hope they trade Jenks for a Kris Benson type to fill out a real solid rotation the likes we in Milwaukee have really never had before. The Brewers do have the resources to sign Schmidt and trade nearly equal value of Jenkins for Benson. That would indeed be a very Merry Christmas.
  2. Jenks for Benson is the most sensible trade idea I've heard in a long time, which gives me doubts that it'll get done. I do think Benson in the #4 spot in the rotation is about all you'd want from a guy like him. Plus, the trade solves actual needs for both sides. What a concept!
  3. I don't like either idea, especially three pitchers for a CF.
  4. Just remember that Jorge de la Rosa looked good in the WBC too. I'm just sayin'...
  5. What are the Giants trying to do with Jenkins, rob the cradle? The sunset of his career is not even in sight yet. I'm actually glad that he has value out there. A trade even up for Benson intrigues, especially since the contracts are close enough.
  6. Where did that quote come from?
  7. If it's true that pogo is the new P50 captain, I think the ship is in good hands. An excellent choice.
  8. Good luck to Jared Fernandez in Japan. I have a feeling he'll do well there and lose a few pounds in the process. Stay away from the sushi. Besides that, don't the Japanese really stress cardiovascular fitness too? This should be an interesting story to watch.
  9. I concur with fstorm completely. That's too many quality or could be quality arms for a CF whose defense has steadily gone downhill the last three years. His stick is improving, but I don't see Rocco as a CF for long...perhaps a corner outfield spot. It also doesn't fully address the need for a pure leadoff hitter on the team either.
  10. Looking forward to the release, Mass.
  11. Toby, a sincere thank you again for being my source for this information. Without your efforts, we'd be in the dark ages as far as minor league info is concerned. I concur with Nader Raider, I hope the handoff is a smooth one.
  12. I would guess that the Estrada trade slammed the door on any possibility of House coming to Milwaukee. I'm really beginning to like the depth at catcher in the organization. Can anyone remember a time in their history with more depth? I can't because it wasn't a conversation piece until now.
  13. Bring on the organizational soldiers Mr. Melvin! Kuzmic and his versatility will be very handy at Nashville next season. I suppose Braun will still start down there at 3B and Rivera and Closser are the C's, so where does he play? I'll guess he'll play 1B more than the other two positions, plus a corner OF spot now and then. I love options.
  14. Toby, it's all good my man! It doesn't make sense to do a Power 50 until at least this weekend anyway, and then after the winter meetings I suppose if possible. I'm really looking forward to your depth charts as I mentioned elsewhere. You are pretty much my eyes and ears in the minors and I appreciate your efforts. If the Power 50 goes to a vote, will it be weighed in like the polls in the BCS?! Yipe! I hope it does not because I don't think there are too many qualified eyes gauging the talent in the minor leagues.
  15. Po isn't that great defensively in CF. He's been injury prone for a great deal of his minor league career. Granted he had 2-3 seasons in Milwaukee and Chicago where he contributed at times. He's just not that valuable, but your point is received that the Brewers need a legit leadoff guy. I think Weeks is miscast as a leadoff guy, and a 2B'er a little too for that matter.
  16. I agree brettac with Koonce, but he's not as blocked in KC as he was in Milwaukee. Heck, who knows, he may just finally get his chance there.
  17. The fact that Spurling took a minor league deal makes me want to root for him all the more. He didn't have to do it. Plus, it provides more 40-man options in the spring. I believe he'll make the opening day roster if he doesn't have a terrible spring. I wonder if it's too early to project the opening day rosters yet. I think after the Winter Meetings, I'll start writing down projections. Has anybody else done there projected 25-man yet?
  18. I will now read from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke....and duck! Toby, do you have an estimated release date of the new Power 50?
  19. I'm against obtaining Podsednik and also against Hall in LF. I'd rather see his wheels in CF with Hart in LF, and yes Jenkins (for now) in RF, unless Jenks is moved out of town. Oh yeah, he'd get more than a middle reliever in trade too, as somebody mentioned earlier in this thread.
  20. Craig Wilson is darn near league average at all four positions according to Baseball Prospectus. But, in order for the Brewers to even get him, they'd have to thin the herd at 3B and the OF first.
  21. Right, Berkman does play 1B, but who knows for how long. He's a converted outfielder too. Let Lee patrol LF in Houston until his wheels fall off. I think he'll be worse off there than at 1B anyway.
  22. Right on gang. I certainly wasn't implying that would be the answer moving Lee to 1B, but he could be hidden there and play it like Frank Thomas. Hey, a guy can dream bad things for the enemy right?! I laugh at the suggestion with you.
  23. Not knowing who John Buck is, I thought this thread was going down the path that the Brewers were looking to hire some broadcaster guy from the family name of Buck. I kinda got excited for a tick. My bad!
  24. No way no how Invader! Sounds like you have a soft spot for Bonds, but that to me is like taking a leak on a cross. That's just not something you do, man! Does not compute! Dishonorable to all things sacred in baseball, especially Milwaukee and Henry Aaron.
  25. Both of the last posts are very interesting. However Lee could still be moved to 1st base in Houston in a year or two, couldn't he? I'm also not too hot on the proposed Lopez/Mench deal, now that Davis is out and Vargas is in. I get a bad feeling that if this trade happens, the bullpen will be in shambles soon from overuse.
