  1. He will be fast tracked, and should be up at 25 at the latest. That said, it really does not matter when you get there, unless you're talking about a HoF'er. I'll gladly take Laporta as a 25-30 y/o.
  2. If I were Sarfate, I'd go home and rest up for a week or two, then get ready for tryouts and winter ball, if he plans to play.
  3. What Ben said. The mere fact he's playing everyday and hitting average for a C makes him easily tolerable. As beat up as catchers get behind the plate, it seems people complain about whoever is C every year. If it was easy, everyone would play there. When I went to the Indians/angels matinee, my brother and i sat in the 4th row right behind home plate. It was a cool day, and in the 8th inning, there was a meeting at the mound. Everyone looked to be happy and smiling, and then the Angels' C walked back to the plate...he was sweating profusely, and with all due respect to actual soldiers, looked like he had been in combat, bleeding from one arm, all dirty and sweaty. That's not an easy life. The irony here is, many folks insisted Estrada was not hurt what, 3 months ago? He's still nowhere near full strength, but has not missed any time at all. I feel it's a pretty safe bet he's been at about 75% much of the year.
  4. Nashville is about to start their playoff run - along with 4 other Brewers affiliates (Huntsville, Brevard, West Virginia and Helena) AAA playoffs mean exactly nothing. Rivera as a 4th C, especially if Miller is not 100%, is infinitely more important than a minor league game. The Crew has made this clear as they have a third of their pitchers in AAA who were on the waiver wire a week ago. The postgame spread in MIL means more than how the AAA playoffs end up.
  5. Miller is probably only a half-step faster than Estrada. They might PR for both of them in the same game. Nashville barely has any games left, so I doubt Rivera goes back.
  6. Um, they have been using Linebrink and Shouse as 7th inning set-up men. A PTBNL cannot come from the 40 man either.
  7. One of the current 8 starters will be dealt, I would say Bush is unlikely, so that would leave either Cappy or Vargas. Neither will bring a boatload of talent back, but I think they'd prefer keeping the LHP with the higher ceiling. Doug could not care at all about public perception, and Mark A seems to be talking the "long-term" talk as well. I would bet Cappy is back in '08, if I had to decide this second. On a related note, I'd say Sheets is more willing to be traded than Bush. Dave is incredibly team oriented and I have to think he is loved by the organization. Ben only has a year left on his contract as well.
  8. Bray does not throw hard. He looks to have a very limited ceiling...guys that throw 89-91 almost always struggle in the bigs, unless they have a devastating breaking ball. Bray's ceiling seems to be an 11th/12th man, though I hope he continues to overachieve, as he already has as a minor league Rule 5 pick.
  9. The fans are being criticized because the vast majority of them have no clue, and with rare exceptions, are just second guessing...even the stuff that has worked very well, Turnbow/Cordero in the 8th and 9th; and defensive shifts have been brought up, because they do not work 100% of the time. If only Loretta would have been playing his normal 2B position yesterday, but instead, he was several feet up the middle, based on scouting and mathematics. Only questioning moves that don't work is exactly what has been going on, and to be honest, is painfully obvious.
  10. I do find it odd the site chooses to publicize such silliness. I'd never bring it up.
  11. Pardon me if I fail to get excited over Sarfate having a decent handful of innings. He should be dominating AAA, and at this point, is just a guy who throws hard who is underachieving. He's fine minor league free agent fodder, as he still has potential, and nothing more.
  12. No way Sarfate comes up, he's been simply horrible, 5+ ERA, 2ish WHIP. Either he's hurt or all that talent is wasted inside his head.
  13. Might Zach have hit his innings limit? He has been in the rotation the entire year.
  14. He throws in the high 90's and has a decent breaking ball...I'd say he's all but guaranteed a spot on the 25 next year and will be forced to fail.
  15. The only thing I know about Kremblas is he has talked to the media about his players in a negative light a few times in his reign. That's not a positive, to say the least. I'm surprised he isn't a coach if he is highly thought of.
  16. Actually, I just realized my e-mail was from a group talking about Delafield/Oconomowoc, not Delavan. My mistake.
  17. Given how good Appleton's park is, I'd much prefer they end up there, and hopefully, that will occur at some point.
  18. Delavan would draw from Milwaukee. I have also heard that rumor, Foamboy, as I was e-mailed a questionairre by someone associated with it, or at least, curious about it. That was in the Fall of '06, both A ball and college wood bat were mentioned. Milwaukee is about 40-60 minutes from Beloit, depending on which side of the city you live on, and Delavan is just a few minutes for some, and up to what, 20-25 for others? Milwaukee is a blue collar town in which $5-7 seats and free parking would go over well, and much moreso for an affiliate of the Crew. EDIT: Sorry, I got Delafield and Delavan mixed up.
  19. I'm assuming Bob Brower is the same one who played OF for the Rangers?
  20. I bet no film exists of the Bench incident. The stories of "back in the day" are always made bigger and better. It's sad really, because it makes many believe great players like Mantle and Ruth were just chubby anecdotes.
  21. Any team that wins 5 in a row, or even 10 of 14, might waltz away with the Central. That could be anyone.
  22. I certainly do not see a non-tender of Cappy, 10-15 teams would be interested in him at $4M. I don't think Doug cares at all about the fans being worried, he'll make moves based solely on baseball sense. As I said, Chris' numbers are not far from the other SP's, other than his winless streak, that's all GM's care about. Fans get emotional and point to those things, but in reality, that's as much bad luck and run support as anything else. His secondary numbers are better than some others. Both Vargas and Capuano have pitched at a level that still keeps them in most any rotation in MLB...right now, however, the Brewers have 5 guys pitching at that level, of a #4/5 starter. That's the true problem.
  23. On the Jerry Stiller roast, someone guessed that Jerry Seinfeld (then single) did not show up because he was "busy blanking a model on a giant pile of cash". Though Mark A is happily married, I think, it does not apply to him as much, but dare I say it would be nice to at least know if you wanted to, you could be doing that.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif To be honest, I'm sure Mark A wonders, or has wondered, several times if he is on the right path. Because it is up to Doug who the manager is (and it rarely makes a difference, to be honest), I think Mark has thought more about replacing Doug than Ned. That said, I doubt if he has any plans to do that, and I hope he doesn't. Not all has gone to plan in '07, but the vision for a run of success is still very much in place. Success is often predicted a year or two before it happens, and premature success is often very short-lived (remember the Royals a few years ago?) and fleeting. It is very difficult not to be optimistic when looking at the next few years, with much of the nucleus still very young and far from their mythical peak. I doubt Mark is willing to risk that for a win or two in '07, though I'm sure much of him would love to.
  24. Obviously, the Crew won't have 8 starters battling for rotation spots next year, so 1 or 2 will be dealt. I agree Capuano is better than his numbers, but his walks trouble me the most. As a LH, he'll retain much of his value despite his struggles, I've compared him to Davis before and I will again...both are solid lefty SP's who will be in someone's rotation next year. EDIT: Changed week to year, typo.
  25. Next year's season ticket base will be up, almost without a doubt. Some of this year's increase in attendance can be directly traced to the excellent, over their heads start, however. Mark A is a smart man, and he "gets it", much more than the average fan. But, he does at some point need to decide if he's going to continue on the same path, a long-term vision, or not. The not option is probably a tad better for ticket sales and such, but not enough to make much of a difference long-term.
