  1. Pardon me, a bandwagon fan just jumped off. See you in a while.
  2. When you are complaining about pitching in anything but a save situation, that's far from ideal. If you're ARod talented, that's one thing, but for a guy like Wickman, blah.
  3. Low ceiling guys like Heether don't have much demand in the Rule 5...1B/3B guys reserves can be picked up anywhere. If the list is correct, I'd say Lou P and Pena, and maybe Fermaint.
  4. Not much value as anything but a 5th OF until he shows he can hit in the bigs. He'd be a guy I'd take a risk on though if I were rebuilding.
  5. That schedule is sure to leave you tired and out of sync for much of the week. Other than that, as long as your folks are game, it's all ok.
  6. When the rotation pitches well, the 12th man is going to be used sparingly. He warmed up Wednesday night late.
  7. A LH SP with decent stuff will still have plenty of value, even at $4M. Look what the Doug Davis package brought last year...Cappy has a much higher ceiling, but not as good of recent numbers. Davis, a solid SP, signed a long-term deal for $7M, Cappy at $4M won't make anything but a small market team blink...heck, he may actually be targeted by teams a lot like the Crew after '05 ...who get guys when their value is down a bit. Most teams know they need to look at what a guy is projected to do next year, not what he did in the very recent past.
  8. I sure don't see Stetter up. He's been terrible for most of his AA/AAA time, with some recent exceptions. I hope he does well in the AFL and turns into a prospect, but I sure don't expect it. I don't think Thatcher will have much of a career, and he had fine AA/AAA numbers. Guys that get by on guile like Shouse are rare.
  9. Suppan did not get 200 last year, but if he does not miss a start, he is likely to this year.
  10. Several teams have asked about Mench and been told he's unavailable. Dye gets $11M and Mench has no value at $3M? Heh.
  11. Making a move to make a move...brilliant. Look at the players who have cleared waivers and not been pulled back...the best one is Josh Towers, and we already have Cappy. There's not a single relief pitcher even on the list of known players to have passed through.
  12. Almost every SP with a career ERA of 5 or less make $3M or more a year. Those guys have value, which many fail to see. Replacement level SP's often average about 5.75 ERA's...one run per 9 is a big deal.
  13. I doubt they add more than a couple pitchers, 14 seems like a plenty, probably Spurling and Carlos V (or McClung). Vinny and Gwynn would probably be my only two others. I'd consider Crabbe, Bray, and Dickey once the playoffs end.
  14. I don't see much of an issue with most of it, but afraid to "hold it"? Can't play outside? No bike or skateboard? It's kind of sad, especially the germaphobe part. Every boy should have a dog, and vice versa.
  15. If you have the cash, do it.
  16. What would Cruz do if just left alone to play every day? I have to believe .300/.400 is well within what you'd project...that'd be about 90% of what I would project Dye for at 34. If i made a list, I can't believe Nelson would be in my top 5-10. And what's wrong with a LH half of a platoon...that's 120 games right there. There's a plethora of RH OF's that's be fine for 40 games. They would not be likely to produce Mench-like 900 OPS, but Dye doesn't exactly set a high bar.
  17. This late in the season, he may not. I would think he'd get some calls, however, based solely on his velocity.
  18. Most everyone expected a bit of regression to the mean with Hall in '07. If he's an 830 OPS guy, both his '06 and '07 are within 10% of what you'd expect, and well within mathematical sense. Line drives and balls in the gap simply do not even out equally. There is also an ongoing learning curve...pitchers keep changing how they pitch Bill, and he has to adjust. Any issues he has are related to plate discipline, his swing often looks long and he is unable to not swing at balls out of the strike zone...as long as that's the case, he won't see many mistakes.
  19. For $11M per, I'd just think you could get a player who is not in his mid 30's and has both career norms and a current season of purely mediocre numbers. Goodness, CLE has both Trot Nixon and Dave Dellucci making far less than this, and I'd much rather have either one of them than Dye. To me, this is one of those things where you could sign a veteran AAA LF/RF with warts (speed, fielding) for $350K and get 90% of Dye's production for 3.2% of the cost. Plus, there's no risk, you can always just sign another one. I have to think Russ Branyan at $550K would give you a better OPS.
  20. Luther has no future with the team, he'd be gone in a couple weeks anyway. He's certainly not a horrible option as a team's last reliever, but those guys are all over the place. Hackmann is not young and has no ceiling. He's pretty much exactly what you'd refer to as roster filler...though as stated, he could pitch in the bigs, and compile a high 4 ERA in the 'pen. So could 100 other guys in AAA.
  21. And most corner OF's just fall off a cliff in their mid 30's...geesh. That's just a horrible signing, though it's only for 2 years.
  22. Brantley is 20 with great plate discipline. If he continues, he'll be a starter at 22 or 23.
  23. He's 20 and having success in AA. All the rest is for the lawyers.
  24. Red Sox fans are the same way, all afraid the Yankees will get hot and overtake them, they don't even enjoy the 5 game lead. Mark A said the same thing the other night as your title...it's the way things are when your chasing a division, nobody runs away with it by 20 games, especially when the nucleus is very young. The fair weather fans remind me of the Cardinals' "fans" who booed during their last series with the Crew last year...I did not hear any boos in October.
  25. I'm not sure why you'd use a small sample to judge Hart when he has plenty of AB's this year and career to use. Should you bench anyone that goes 0-4? Anything can happen over a month, that's exactly what a small sample is. 100-150 AB's literally mean less than nothing.
