  1. My favorite Cops quote: "I swear to God, it's not mine!" Which episode? Every episode. A comedian said once that he's always shocked that there are guys sitting in their kitchen at 3AM, no shirt on, beer in one hand, cigarette in the other, and they're not the least bit surprised to see the police walk in. I gotta agree.
  2. The trade wasn't official until he passed the physical today. I think they said they'd have them Wednesday, so that's pretty fast.
  3. Rogers is what, 25? His ceiling is what he did last year.
  4. I never touch anything on the relish tray, and neither do half the guests. You'd win a lot of fans if you took a tiny veggie tray and also a tray with cheese, meat, crackers, and some kind of cream cheese dip. And, deviled eggs. At our office party last week, no fewer than 10 people complained the deviled eggs were gone before they got to the table (potluck, someone brought a dozen).
  5. Edmonds hits LH like Dickerson. If he hit RH or SH, it might be a match. Probably see a vet (like Gibbons a couple years ago) signed to a AAA deal for depth. Don't see much else going on in the OF.
  6. Doug will bring in an arm or two, to be certain. Maybe on minor league deals, maybe on 1y/$1.5M deals once the multi-year guys work themselves out. Most of the minor league vets (McClendon, Kintzler) have options. Having them at AAA can only be a positive, as injuries/ineffectiveness will happen.
  7. I have Gennett #1. I might well have Gindl #2. My wife is 5-0, so i have no qualms with the vertically challenged.
  8. Gomez would be a superstar if he was the same player and he had a .375 OBP. He's so good defensively and on the bases, he's still decent even though his hitting has been subpar. Whenever a guy is really good at something, he'll get far more chances than if he's just below average at everything.
  9. Yuni looks to be about 8 runs better than Punto on offense, based on Bill James' projection, and probably about -20 on D. About a single win over 162. Since they're already paying Yuni, and his SLG, his only real positive, might well be helped by Miller Park, I wouldn't be in much of a hurry to make a move. However, some sort of upgrade might well be expected by the end of July, especially if a solid OBP guy is available. If Counsell returns, and he plays SS a couple times a week, versus tough RHP's, it might well bump Yuni's numbers up enough to make it less than 10 runs, or a single win. Punto is a very appealing option if Counsell chooses to go elsewhere or retires.
  10. Jeffress not confirmed. That may be because they can't reach him, or it may be because he is not involved. The Brewers always let their players know. Could be either. KC34, that was quite a guess. It's a huge hole to give up 4 guys, especially 3 ready to contribute, but I'm still shocked it did not take a single top guy like Lawrie, or a proven everyday player, though I think KC considers Lo and Alcides "proven"...and they are, defensively at least. Also, taking Betancourt back lowered the haul for the Royals, avoiding a top guy being needed.
  11. Robert's reviews add some class to Ramblings, though it does not take much, considering my love of Cops and Married with Children.
  12. Delfino went unnoticed by many last year, but he not only hit the 3, he played defense, and often was 2nd on the team in assists and rebounds. He is far from a star, but he fits in superbly, and they miss him.
  13. I'd say he's depth for 1B/3B/LF/RF who is very likely to begin the season in AAA. He's inexpensive, so he has value in MIL or elsewhere. Still has an option, so I doubt they'll feel a need to make a move. I'd like to see him dominate Nashville and stay healthy, and show the ability to play a position or two without Don Money questioning his desire to do the work.
  14. Punto does nothing well except defend and dive stupidly into 1B. His OBP is horrendous, so I much prefer Counsell. Renteria might be ok, but he was "offended" by the $1M offer, so he seems to be living in the past. Lopez is pretty much a 2B/3B who has played SS, you'd need a "real" backup SS as well if you'd sign him.
  15. He's far more likely to have "issues" than pitchers with no history of anxiety. That article makes him seem very unique, almost eccentric. That's fine if you're a bowler or golfer, but when you have a history of mental stuff and play a team sport, I remain wary. I'd sure take him, but I'd prefer others with a tad less success and seemingly, far less chance of a blowup. Much prefer Garza, Shields, Nolasco, or any number of SP's under 30, though availability is a factor, I realize. Plus, he only has 1.5 or 2 years, and sounds as if he's set on going the FA route, like Prince.
  16. He's a large downgrade from Hart offensively, and Sweeney would need a platoon partner. Why you'd trade a starting 3B for a platoon RF is a mystery to me. I'd rather put Gamel in RF and go from there. Sweeney as a 4th OF looks like a decent match, but they already have Dickerson.
  17. All the relievers getting deals are very good and have little history of injury. Basically, it's a reaction to who won last year...TB had a great 'pen, for example, and pitching is always at a premium. I'm not a fan of Law to say the least, most things he says tell me why he doesn't work in MLB anymore. With little SP available, teams are finding help where they can.
  18. There are also many fine relievers available as FA's, and while spendier than Axford, they are also more proven.
  19. Now H-ville can move to Carolina. The Mudcats had one of the most popular logos in the minors a few years ago.
  20. To me, they are looking to take in as much money as possible...they want 100 people to come and buy a cheap gift card. Hence, why would they not want me to buy 4 instead of 1? Many businesses do this, and I can't say i get it. Sales are sales, especially in today's market.
  21. I'd say it means you can only buy one...which seems very odd, because you'd think they'd want to sell as many as possible, if they're willing to do the deal. Usually, places hope people buy one at regular price if they want two (we have a pizza place that sends out internet specials for like $7 for a large with unlimited toppings, but if you want more than one, you have to pay regular price...hence, 2 would be like $25).
  22. Most every team, even the Phillies, has a mediocre bottom of the rotation. Good teams only have a #5, but others have #3-5. I like the depth of the 6th-8th SP's, and I like the staff as is. One more solid arm, they are solid contenders in the Central, and you can easily see the potential for additions come July...they'll certainly have payroll room. I'd love to see Capuano return as depth, but he'll likely look for a team where he can at least join the battle for #4/5, which he won't do if the Brewers add another SP.
  23. I'd take Blanton by a smidge. Of course, we don't know if it'd take a random A baller or an actual prospect of some merit. Blanton's FIP was lower last year, but with his build, he does not figure to age well. That says, he's several years younger than Pavano.
  24. Marcum and Blanton replacing Bush and the plethora of #5 guys would add a number of projected W's, assuming the rest of the team stayed the same. Don't forget, after April and May of last year, the pitching was far better and they were basically a .500 team. They've already improved the team a great deal with Axford, Braddock, Loe, and others. Even a 4 win gain could easily put them at 85 wins, and then you have to look at "how good would the bullpen be with guys throwing 6-7 frames, rather than 5+?"
  25. There's been talk about the quiet, half-full student section all year on Badgers' basketball boards. Many feel it is directly related to how cheap their seats are...for example, if I pay $25, or whatever the public pays, I'm either going to go or make sure I get them to someone who does. Students pay a far smaller amount ($8-12?), and if it's cold, if it's not a "big game," or whatever, they just stay home.
