  1. Gooden played down the stretch and made several key stops/rebounds. Ersan is a nice role player, but rarely plays at the end of games. You can take that however you wish, but it's noticeable. Dooling also got key minutes. Keyon is always a fine defender, but is a key player when he is hitting the outside shot, because he's big enough to play the 2, and Salmons moves to the 3. With Delfino out, they've needed someone to step up.
  2. Overbay isn't that far from an average 1B offensively, and think he's plus defensively. Didn't PIT already have Jones or someone else though?
  3. I like Blanton, he's a horse and fairly paid.
  4. Counsell has a higher OBP and fields better than almost any 2B/SS that does not start, and the fact he can also play 3B and hits LH are also points in his favor. I assume Craig is talking to other teams that are either offering him at least a platoon job, or maybe a perennial contender like the Yankees have him thinking one more ring. He's a FA, and has probably taken less to play in MIL, he has turned down potential starting jobs the past couple years. He is a FA, so he has the right to play where he wishes.
  5. FYI, I believe Doug considers an "offer" to be an official offer sheet, faxed to the agent/player. Needless to say, the idea they met with Pavano for a few hours and never discussed terms is a bit foolhardy.
  6. Shields does not project as well, but he'll also be cheaper and locked up until '13 with \no long-term commitment if injured. I have nothing against Shields, look at those innings totals.
  7. Pavano on a 2y deal would be a near perfect fit without weakening the system or lineup (or even depth).
  8. I get $61.3M w/o buyouts, signing bonuses, or a 5th SP. http://albethke.blogspot....oster-gallardo-wolf.html
  9. As Peavey points out, no one is going over 2 (DC might only be 1). I wonder if a 3rd year option, with a $2M buyout, might be enough to put enough guaranteed money on the table. The Twins might just match it, but it might be the only hope, as it appears no one is going 3.
  10. Escobar and Lucroy both have the potential to be above average offensive players for their positions and probably already are plus defenders for two more years at near minimum, and are under team control for 3-4 more years. Those are very valuable, even a pre-arby guy who is a half win below average has a ton of value, it allows you to pay stars $10M+. There's no other C or SS in the system ready to contribute, unlike CF, that's why Cain keeps getting brought up.
  11. Beachy has had about as much success as his levels allow. I'd say Cain is more than fair for MIL. I doubt ATL wants to let Beachy or Minor go for just Lo.
  12. I'm surprised TB did not shop Shields rather than Garza...maybe they think Matt will be costlier due to arby.
  13. 2nd to last game, I believe. It says Game 1 at the top.
  14. TB is asking so much for Garza because he's team controlled for 3 more years, yet can be non-tendered if he blows out his arm/elbow. He's in the perfect scenario for all but a few of the poorest teams. They can probably get 2 Lawries from someone if they hold out.
  15. They might deal Weaver or Santana, especially if they sign Lee. Not sure if Prince would fit in the budget though.
  16. Any impact is minimal, less than 5%. Athletes just can't "turn it on" for six months. I think there is something to be said about some players relaxing and taking it easy after hitting a big contract, as is human nature.
  17. Hardy, at $6M a year, has very minimal value, as shown here. As said above, I think teams are scared away by his injuries and ongoing back troubles at such a young age.
  18. 22 and very good in AAA indicates a very solid prospect. Cain could play LF for them, but I would agree it would not be a perfect match. They asked for Minor from ATL, so they feel Cain is worthy of a solid pitching prospect in trade.
  19. McGehee for Garza would be done already. Garza and Greinke will both take several prospects, and very good ones at that.
  20. He destroys LHP. He and Matt Diaz are both noted RH bats, but they lose value when they see more than the occasional RHP. But, if used properly, both have plenty of worth as platoon guys/bench bats, especially Francouer, who is a solid defender.
  21. Zips, thought it was BJ. http://www.baseballthinkf...ons_-_milwaukee_brewers/
  22. Gomez is projected almost identically to Cain for '11, and is almost the same age. Cain more valuable because he's cheaper, but that's about it.
  23. Marcum had a sub 3 ERA versus everyone except the Big 3 in the AL East. He's a fine pitcher. I too hate giving up Lawrie. Many are questioning his attitude, but I do not care if he's a boy scout or not. Cal Ripken Jr. was a jerk of mammoth proportions, insisted on playing SS years after he should not have, and is still one of the best offensive SS's ever.
  24. The Orioles are close to getting Mark Reynolds, and seem to be mentioned with most every FA. They may ask, but I don't know if there's a match.
  25. SD got the #1, 3, and 6 prospects in a loaded system, per BA, or some ranking system. They are not close, however.
