  1. Agreed on Overbay, I've considered him often as a stopgap. The question is, will Braun move to 1B or remain in LF?
  2. I have no idea if Hart can play 1B or not, but is career numbers would have him below average offensively. Weeks has worked his way into average D at 2B. Cain is the same age as Gomez, so I doubt he'll be much of an upgrade offensively, and a definite defensive downgrade. Farris is not a major league prospect, or at least much of one. He had a 720 OPS in A+ ball at 23, and now a 700ish OPS in AAA at 24, that screams roster filler to me. I have no idea if Rickie can play RF, his offense will be barely average there, and he has no desire to move to OF.
  3. Ben, if the Crew trades for Wade Davis, he could hurt his arm on his first pitch and need surgery. Pitchers get hurt, it's just the way it is. Ndog, I think it may have been BUF. I only read it because it was linked at a site I read because they thought it was odd no one wanted the #1 pick because, heavens, it was 14 months away rather than 2.
  4. Casey doesn't have much range, but he's been fine defensively. His UZR/150 is -13, and considering that it tries to magnify numbers to make itself worthwhile, he's probably half that, -7 runs a year. Add in some phantom errors from the Miller Park drunken scorer, he's -5...that's about right. He actually looks far more comfortable, as his knee is probably not bothering him nearly as much.
  5. The contrarian in me likes Moore just because so many folks don't. He's pretty much recognized as a better prospect than Davis, but because he's a couple years away, no one wants him. I recall a year or two ago, some NFL team in need of a QB was rumored to be thinking of trading a solid player (OL, if memory serves). Supposedly, they had 2 deals on the table: 1. A 1st round pick, but not the upcoming draft, the next year. 2. A journeyman QB, solid backup, some experience starting, and a 3rd/4th round pick in the draft soon to arrive. Now, to me, this was an easy call...a 1st round pick had far more worth, in my opinion. But, the results of a poll was 4-1...get the QB and later round pick. The comments read like a "win today, forget about tomorrow" manifesto. I barely follow the NFL, but I don't think a trade was ever made, I believe they ended up signing him to an extension or branding him a "franchise" player, or whatever. I do recall though thinking that not only were the fans far too emotional, that 80% of them would make horrible GM's. Also, I can't help but think Doug has probably passed up deals similar to this in the past, as he has been looking for "ready or almost ready" to contribute players since...2007? Briggs did a nice job a while back of summing up a scenario that the Brewers could compete next year, and they could. However, I can certainly see a .500 team a lot easier than I can see a 90 win team, so looking at maximizing talent is not a bad option, by any means.
  6. Hart can play LF or RF, while Prince is just a 1B. Add that to the lefty/righty thing, Corey is bound to have twice as many suitors.
  7. Two outstanding tools guys for 1.33 seasons of Corey seems very fair, however, Doug has always gone for near ready prospects, except maybe in the deal that brought the Crew CV from SF. It seems apparent neither of those guys would help at all in '11. I don't think it's a bad move at all, but it may well mean MA's plans to contend annually are being brushed aside to add more talent.
  8. Photo corners, or stuff found in a scrapbooking store would work. Just ask a female who works there.
  9. Anything with deet in it works best. Put it on every 30 minutes or so, my son got eaten alive up at the in-law's cabin, they put stuff on him twice in 2+ hours, but it wears off.
  10. Good players take advantage of opportunity. Gamel did not. The idea he's still struggling a year later because of it is absurd. I hope it's his shoulder, as a sub 800 OPS in his 3rd season at AAA is embarrassing.
  11. Pat Benatar had a song called Invincible a long, long time ago. I think it was in a movie with the then supercute Helen Slater.
  12. Gomez is the best CF I've ever seen defensively. He's made several excellent plays and also some fine throws. Cameron played CF like a wily veteran, but he could not run or throw like Carlos.
  13. One solid prospect and a couple others is it for Prince, as the big market teams know they can sign him for free a year later. I'm still shocked SEA only got one top 10 Rangers' prospect for Lee. TEX may have a deep system, but #2, 11, and 12 (at best) for Lee shocks me. I would would have thought at least a couple top 5's or 3 top 10's.
  14. Danzig is correct, I was surprised to see him with a sub 800 OPS in AAA. for a guy there for the 3rd time, he should be dominating.
  15. I'm no help, I like 'em all. We usually get one labeled "sweet and spicy", they have bite.
  16. Diener strikes me as more of a #3 PG on a good team, as he likely would struggle defensively versus taller, more athletic points.
  17. Weeks is still young too. 4y/$25M is about what I'd expect to see him get somewhere. I doubt if he's peaked yet.
  18. It has him near his peak at 21. Zips is apparently 6 years off.
  19. It's 100% accurate, I've mentioned the same thing. 859 OPS for Casey in the bigs in '09, 839 for Mat in AAA. This year, it's 800-759. The argument is moot, and has been for 2 seasons now. This is a business, not a old boy's club.
  20. Weeks is above average the last 3 years using UZR/150, and probably would be far higher if he did not play his home games in Miller Park, where diving stabs are rewarded with errors. He is also now as good at turning the pivot as any 2B since Belliard, and a few years ago, he was very poor. He's a solid offensive 2B, and has worked his way up to decent defensively. His injuries are a concern though, and if the Crew has talked to teams about him, I would assume it is moot, as he won't be signing an extension.
  21. I think slot is about $60-70K plus school for the 11th.
  22. There are several full season ticket holders. I'm sure it's one of those, unless an employee has seen more. Uecker is near the top of the list...I assume he's probably seen the most wins too.
  23. Gamel might end up in RF soon too. Doug said that has been talked about as recently as last offseason, and some in the organization felt strongly about it.
  24. Almost anyone can play 10-15 minutes backing up Jennings, but if Diener has to play 30 for a month because of injury, Ridnour's name will come up nightly.
  25. Word is SF can't deal either Sanchez or Bumgarner for Hart, only prospcts. That makes perfect sense, as not many contenders weaken their rotation as they make a push.
