  1. Many young pitchers struggle to be consistent when they first hit pro ball. The Crew may also have changed Arnett's motion to try and keep him healthy, and he is still working on it being second nature. Most guys are far from finished products. That's why the minors are for teaching, not results.
  2. I assume he's out for all of '10. Given he is far from wealthy, I assume he'll try to come back.
  3. He's only a year younger than Gerut, and his AAA stats mirror Jody's big league numbers. Considering 80% of pitchers are RH, his handedness is not exciting enough to motivate me to make a change.
  4. I throw them in the weeds behind our house.
  5. Mark Sweeney, who had a nice career as a bench bat. Sorry.
  6. I don't see a deal involving a LHP who throws 95 who is currently in the rotation.
  7. Did Barker ever play any LF in the bigs, I recall he took fly balls to at least have that option. The only difference between those guys and a guy like Mike Sweeney is opportunity and a bit of plate discipline.
  8. Gerut would be an upgrade for half the teams as a reserve OF, though a few could not afford him. He'd have plenty of takers, maybe even as a platoon option. I assume Gomez will replace Stern, so I'm not sure why anyone is worried about making another spot.
  9. I'd have to agree with Briggs, to get Inglett's bat in versus RHP. I'd probably give Weeks and Braun each a day off in the field, and consider Prince for Day 3.
  10. I'd sign with the Clips or the Nets, but few players think like I do, hence, I see the Knicks, Bulls, or Heat.
  11. Considering Weeks has gone from weak on turning the DP to fast and accurate, and just threw out a runner at the plate the other day on a play only the strongest armed 2B would make, I'd say that borders on absurd, or is a tiny sample that will work itself out. The defensive metrics have taken a huge hit on reliability of late, with Jason Bay being changed from awful to above average, and the most recent comments that a season of defense is too small a sample to care about, that you have to use 3 year averages (in effect, making it impossible to gauge a player until 450 games in the majors). I'm still of the opinion they exaggerate everything a bit, because if 90% of the players were between +10 runs and -10 runs a year, few would care. I know Adam Dunn is bad, and so is Brad Hawpe, but -30+ for a corner OF, when on average they have 1.5 chances a game, is beyond mathematical common sense.
  12. The Gamel stuff is silly too. Mat simply was not as good as other options, and thus, did not play much. He often does not hit well in the 2nd half, and has been hurt this season. Last year was not a rebuilding season, as they were in 1st place until the pitching injuries/woes hit. The idea of throwing kids out there just to get them AB's is ridiculous. Many young players do not play everyday when they first come up, as they are not the best player for the job. The idea it will hurt Gamel years down the road? Not just untrue, but without merit.
  13. Montreal would need upgrades to be a major league park, as they played with exceptions their last few seasons. There's no other options in the area, and Mexico for 3 games would go over badly for all.
  14. 2LB, I believe I agreed with Rosenthal at Ramblings in late March when we both felt they were very overrated. It's archived.
  15. I said 2 months ago SEA's offense was awful. What's funny is, the stathead crowd failed to see this, and expected the M's to outperform their runs scored/runs allowed by 8-10 games again. The irony is, no one seemed to notice they lost Branyan and Beltre and replaced them with Kotchman and Figgins. Defense is great, but they are way down the pack in scoring...and they have the DH.
  16. They get 13 schollies for D1 buckets, by the way. It used to be 15, but the NCAA stepped in and did away with that, as they are all about the student-athlete.
  17. Might want to check out food delivery places too...they might be losing a guy or too when the semester ends. Same for flower shops and pharmacies. Parks and rec may have openings for umpires, lifeguards, and maintenance too, if that has appeal. Also, think tourism...hotels might at least offer "casual" or call-in jobs if you're willing to learn all positions. Orchards? Greenhouses? You can always put up things on bulletin boards that you'll mow lawns.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Our neighbor, who used to be a plumber, relit ours last summer. So, it's a 5 minute job, but no suggestions unless you have a friend in the know.
  19. If Parra goes 3, he needs more than a day off, maybe 2-3, depending on pitches.
  20. He works TBS games many Sundays. Travel Sat, game Sun.
  21. I never retired from MLB, but no one has offered me a job either. The similarities are striking...
  22. That might just be a fancy term for dead arm. His velocity was off 5 mph the other night, that's tough to explain if you are not less than 100%.
  23. Only a game or two might get rained out, but add that to a 1PM starting at 6 and ending at 11, the roof keeping the snow and rain off folks in playable conditions, and the idea you can drive from hours away and not be concerned about weather makes the roof priceless. The worst part is, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they go with a plan that a roof can't even be added later?
  24. I'm sure he could, Smoltz did. However, very few go from relief to starting, so it's likely he'd struggle, with "dead arm" and the like.
  25. I doubt any team would fly in a jet painted up like that, for security reasons.
