  1. They have the 5th best run differential in the NL, and the 3rd best record. They are 5th in offense, 9th in ERA, and 6th in unearned runs allowed (1st meaning giving up the fewest). All that adds up to an above average team. They have 3 more wins that you'd expect based on runs allowed and scored, and are 10-7 in one-run games, and 2-0 in extra innings. I tried to correlate bullpen performance to teams outperforming their expected W-L last year, and did not find any, but Hoffman and the bullpen as a whole being 2nd in ERA in the NL would seem to be as good a reason as any to explain that difference, though luck probably plays as big a role as any.
  2. Someone will snap him up, actually, several teams will recruit him heavily, but not until he clears waivers, and they're only on the hook for the minimum salary.
  3. How can NY teams only have 4-4.5 more households than MIL, and BOS only has 3x the viewers? If you believe the hype, you'd think every fan in Mass and north of there tunes into every Sawks games.
  4. Anyone else have any luck? I was in the waiting room 'til 9:25, but still got one for Wed and Thurs. Sadly, I did not notice until I was done that the Thurs one in on the LF side, which will be sun drenched if it's a nice day. With a free hotel room from our credit card "points", and a visit to play some poker Wed night, a nice 30 hour single guy trek is possible for $50 or so.
  5. What's his MLE for OBP, about .260? He barely gets on 30% of the time in AAA against non-prospects. No one helps the team win by getting out 70-75% of the time.
  6. Escobar can play 2B, and still will at times. He just won't be playing there as much, is how I read that.
  7. He gets out almost 70% of the time versus guys who aren't good enough to be the 11th/12th men on MLB staffs, and the occasional prospect. As stated, he isn't young. He's a fringe prospect, as guys with 30 HR power are like guys that throw in the mid 90's...they get a boatload of chances.
  8. I don't know if he's much better than Gamel offensively, or enough to trade a prospect for.
  9. Counsell gets on base 35% of the time, more versus RHP. One look at Hall's production, especially versus RHP, makes him a near emergency only option at 2B. Escobar would probably hit nearly as well at 2B and be a stellar defender...Hall hasn't played 2B to speak of since '06, so his fielding would be average, maybe. Hall is not even playing 3B good enough to justify playing everyday, no way he can play 2B to that level after 3 years away. Hall isn't even an option at 2B.
  10. Most SRO seats are what $17? But, if you go get a Uecker seat, you pay $1, but hardly anyone sits in them, they treat them the same as SRO. Hence, one person pays one amount, another pays another. At the very least, they should raise the price of them to the same as Bernie's Terrace. That would eliminate much of the incentive to use them as a means to misuse. However, I'd just eliminate them. The time has passed. When you're getting 20K a night, it was cute. Now, there's no need.
  11. Hearing this makes me question why they Crew still puts up with such fraud and the like for so little ($100?). I said last year they should drop the Uecker seats and just call them what they are, obstructed view, and offer them only during sold out games as an alternative to standing room, at the same price as SRO. To be blunt, the idea of selling seats so bad no one sits in them, and just use them to gain entry and/or a promo item, seems kind of minor league.
  12. This is the team that insisted Biggio play at home and let the manager decide who played on the road. It's a famously disaster of a way to run a franchise, and Cooper will be far better off once he's gone.
  13. Heether and McGehee is probably a fair comparison, but Heether will have to find a place where he does not have to play SS, which most utility INF's can do. Also, Casey has real value as a guy who can catch at more than a "get through the game" level.
  14. .317/.376 to be exact. I though H-ville was enough of a pitcher's park to make him higher than that, but I guess not. He might be a platoon guy or a reserve someday, but his skill set makes even a 4th OF status as remote, as only desperation could lead anyone to play him in RF. Juan Pierre doesn't play RF for a reason, that 1B-3B merry-go-round is painful to watch. He does walk a lot, so he might be a very nice bench guy, especially if Gamel ends up in the OF. You could imagine him as a RH Catalanotto, and he won't play RF except in an emergency either. I just fail to see the ceiling.
  15. Julio and Seth have both been fine when they throw strikes, but when they don't, they've got hit hard. Seth has been outstanding for weeks now, and Julio could easily find that as well, he looked fine in his 2 frames the other night. They have had no reason to give him important innings, with 6 guys pitching well.
  16. Looked like it was hit hard to me, one hopper right at the 2B, and Keppinger fielded it awkwardly too. 5 feet toward the line, all the talk would be how Hall stayed on the ball and did not try to pull it.
  17. Beautiful. If it had a reference to the troops, it'd be near perfect.
  18. Heh. I'm sure you are allowed to go get onions and other condiments from the stand. Though, it is too bad they could not put your preference of toppings on it before they randomly shoot it into the crowd.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif As for DC, they simply lack a plan.
  19. His DP was a hard hit ball going the other way, just bad luck.
  20. If they'd trade McClung, Tim Dillard is your #6 SP. Seth will not be dealt unless it remedies that little nugget.
  21. CC got 2 prime prospects, and 2 others. Lee alone will get more than the two you mentioned...Dillard is a nice pitcher, but middle relievers (or middle relief prospects) have little value in trade. Escobar is not going anywhere. Lawrie would have to be thrown in for the trade above to occur.
  22. He's not a 4th OF at all, he's a reserve LF who hits RH, just like Braun. He does not have the arm for RF, end of story. He does not have the speed for CF. Putting Cole in LF would severely weaken the defense in CF, and weaken in somewhat in LF and RF. His offense would be a step down from Cameron's. Right now, all those negatives may well be a 5 win difference if Cam went down tomorrow and Cole installed. That isn't even a remote option at this point. Even if Duffy would be a 2-3 win difference on offense alone, that's still better. His MLE for his decent AA year must be around 750-775 or so, nothing to speak of for a LF. Personally, I see Gillespie as trade bait, but his ceiling is far lower than Brantley's or Laporta's. The thought of Cole in the bigs is the same as Hernan being better than Rickie or Nelson being ready to take over for Prince talk we heard in the offseason...some folks have trouble telling apart the true prospects (like Gamel) from the fringe. In theory, he may develop into more, but he's 25 and just a few AB's into AAA.
  23. Lopez is really only hitting in the thin air of Arizona. I doubt he'd be much of a step up from the current platoon, and far spendier.
  24. He's been old for his level, and is really just a LF because of his weak arm. He has a very low ceiling, and hits RH, which seems to say his future is elsewhere, as a reserve at best.
