    You can't just add OBP these days, as Beane showed everyone how important it was. He's moved onto other things, as OBP is expensive.

    You have to be a really good bunter to make it worthwhile...you never get more than a single, and you usually bunt on the 1st or 2nd pitch, failing to make the pitcher work at all...or get behind it the count if it goes foul. I know I saw Braun was 3 of 4 or 4 of 5 for the year too...I sure don't recall those.

    I find it strange they are not promoting "Zach" as a Kevin Smith film...while very popular, he seems to have many detractors and a $30M ceiling on his grosses.

    Our son has been bothered of late because of his cold medicine. A while back, my wife found an online search that said how bad behavior and Zyrtec were linked. We took him off that (allergies) and noticed improvement overnight. Keep these things in mind too.

    His MLE's have him around the numbers I projected, I do believe. Also, he's very young, so you would expect more natural growth than normal.

    The thing is, Escobar would probably only hit .310/.330, or something along those lines...with very good defense of course, that's arguably an average SS. Doing so at $350K is a wonderful value, and allows funds to be spent elsewhere. What many don't seem to realize is JJ with 2 years left before free agency is worth more than JJ with a year left before free agency. If they get good value for him, Alcides will be the SS in '09. Another thing that often goes unmentioned is the Brewers have to "fix" 3B before putting Escobar at SS. Having a bottom of the order of Counsell, Escobar, and Kendall, while not terrible OBP wise, would be devastating SLG wise.

    Patrick, I would have never even thought of such a thing. I guess you can beat anything if you think on it a while.

    You'll see that Jim in that many people here still argue that drunk driving is not serious, and drinking and driving is nothing. I grew up in a home where no one drank, and rarely drink myself. However, as long as you're not putting others at risk, I have no issue with drinking at all. I can't believe how many folks in the paper have 4th and 5th DUI's. My goodness, on #2, it seems obvious there's a problem that needs to be dealt with...severe penalties and fines.

    Yes, I'd love a guy who does not think OBP and OPS is important. It'd be like going back to the 60's.

    You said the same thing about Volquez last year when the Reds traded Hamilton for him. And I'd still rather have Hamilton than Volquez, for that matter. Josh is oodles more valuable, and he isn't one pitch away from being out for 1.5 years. If you're trading a proven SS, you need to get back a proven P...or a proven P and a prospect. End of story. Heck, you can let him leave and get 2 top prospects, albeit unproven and a few years away. Why get less in a trade?

    "Only" an extra year at $11M, and a huge step down production wise from Cameron. Who knows, Mike may take less to stay in MIL, as we have no idea.

    Money doesn't matter, Jack Z would probably work for free as a GM. However, as he gets older, he may well stop looking so hard if he is paid "like" a GM, or close to it.

    Doug has never been one to pick up bad contracts. And, I do not think Byrnes is anything but a well below average defensive CF.

    I've been after Tracy for a couple years. His value might be down because he played hurt this past Summer, so this might be a good time to go get him. I'm sure ARI would be happy to throw Eric Byrnes in...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

    On the stock shows this AM, they were split on where the market would be on 12-31-08, but all were in agreement where it would be in 5 years...well up. I would not try to time it anyway, if I had $10K to invest, I'd just do it $1-2K at a time for every other week for a while. Many folks think they can time the market, so I'm pretty sure it's hopeless.

    Hank is their 1B as of today. He had a spectacular last 2-3 weeks of the season which made his numbers go from passable to above average.

    I agree Macha is the favorite in my eye. I also agree that Doug probably listened to Dale say they need more speed and contact and decided he was not the fella for the job.

    it is damn near impossible to find a bar that isnt packed. If you like that stuff, by all means, head down there. No one goes there any more, it's too crowded...once again, Yogi Berra is decades ahead of his time. My idea of a good time would be to go to Oscar's for custard, so I'm little help on the original question.

    Cain's numbers were near identical in AA to Gillespie's.

    I just don't understand how anyone can look at a slightly higher OPS with far less athletic ability at age 24 and like that more than an age 22 guy with a slightly lower OBP and far more athleticism. Throw in the fact Cain can play CF and Gillespie is likely limited to LF because of his arm, I don't even think it's close. That said, the Gillespie to Brady Clark comparison may be very valid. That's some good thinking out of the box.
