Ajay, many of those players are simply not very good. OXS was once again 98% accurate in predicting runs scored, so you can't lower that and still expect to score more runs. As I point out, but it does not seem to get discussed because it's not fun, OBP used to be undervalued, and now, it's all but impossible to find league average OBP available for anything but a high price, in both salary and trade cost. If you find cheap OBP, it's going to have warts. That's one reason Weeks still has oodles of value, even after "only" hitting his career norms...he gets on base, and when he does, he scores. And, let's not forget they were an above average offensive team. One decent 3B might make this an upper echelon offense...I believe PHIL was .007 higher in both OBP and SLG, and they were 2nd in runs scored. When a car has a flat tire, the easiest thing to do is change the tire. I'll save overhauling the engine for another time. EDIT: For example, Brosius had 200 AB's 9 times in his career, and he had a OBP of .307 or less 5 times. Adding an automatic out to the lineup won't do any good, even if he does occasionally hit a ground ball to 2B to advance a runner.

Hudson may well have been poor for much of 2008, as he was hurt much of the season.

Patrick, I see this as a very nice benefit for season ticket holders. They are the backbone of the fan base, so I think it's great.

I think it's American Disability Act, meaning you can get there in a wheelchair. That said Diener might be right. They do release them to the public at some point, so UTD will be fine.

Hitting coaches have next to zero correlation, much like clutch hitting. They make a very minor difference, especially to anyone but young/utility players.

Given he only has a year left on his deal and makes a lot of cash ($12M), Beltre probably will not cost much in terms of players, as few teams will be willing to pay him, he is likely to only have a suitor or two. I just looked at his splits, and his road numbers are just off the charts better in 3 of his last 4 years. Safeco has crushed his production, without a doubt. He's also going into his final big contract year, so he'll be motivated, though I have no doubt if he has been in the past.

One thing to remember, Escobar is unlikely to be much of an improvement over the '08 3B production...that said, he would be very cheap, allowing money to be spent elsewhere. -
Weeks has one of the best 2B arms in the game. That is just as untrue a statement as I can recall seeing.

I never realized AA/AAA was the same level.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Mike is proven at AA, Taylor at high A. Mike is 22 and looks to be in AAA to begin '09. That's historically outstanding, and he looks to be in the bigs as soon as he is able to prove he belongs, as his road became a lot less bumpy.

We may never find out if Brantley can play CF, as the Tribe has Sizemore there. They'll probably put Mike in LF and his bat will play.

Green is older and at a lower level. It's hard to get excited about that.

I don't see Green having nearly the career Brantley does. Taylor looks to me like he may well have a decent length, but he has no outstanding skill like Mike's OBP.

Hall, as a SS, is likely league average even in a bad year. SS's simply do not hit. Hall's value is lower than previous, but he has value. As a 3B, not so much, you'd probably have to accept a bad contract in return.

Cameron's only 2 offers were from NYY and MIL...ATL went into rebuilding mode. Lowe will get a 4 year offer, almost without a doubt.

Re the '82 Brewers, actually, they wwere just an OK OBP team as well, and had excellent SLG. If memory serves, I think they were 7th in OBP and 1st in SLG.

Personally, I'd say 7th is pretty good considering the youth. Add in a league average 3B, you're probably 4th or 5th. I'd add some OBP somehow and hope the young guys improve.

I'd have no problem wandering out with a weapon should someone vandalize my property. Of course, I don't own one, but I don't really have a whole lot of patience for people making a mess.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then. Rickie is vastly better than any stopgap I see. As I said, I like Kelly Johnson, but he would not be a stopgap by any means. I don't see Doug making moves just to make moves, either. However, since Doug may not return, I guess anything is possible.

I'm not counting guys like Zach Jackson and Bryson, but Laporta certainly is, and Brantley/Green will have careers. No one is a sure thing, but many guys are all but.

Then why not just hang onto Weeks?
