  1. He's a better CF option on this free swinging team than is Cameron and he's a switch hitter How does lowering your OBP, SLG, and defensive skills make him a "better option"? If you can get Crisp at $3M rather than pay Cameron $10M, at least you can make the argument Crisp would be better for the money, depending on what they'd spend the other $7M on, but Cameron is the best CF out there, gets out less, and has more pop. He's simply better.
  2. They're going to downgrade RF by subbing Hart for Drew, and then trade Youkilis? They are run by Theo Epstein...that's not going to happen.
  3. KC has said publicly they like Teahen and he'll be back. And yes, Aviles is kind of a Loretta type SS...weak on the range. Hall could fit at SS for them, but the money doesn't fit in their budget.
  4. Prince for a guy who'll be gone in a year that you might be not be able to offer arby to? Nope.
  5. Nope. Young would also be a massive downgrade from Prince.
  6. I like Nick J, but you need to have another 1B on hand to play 40-60 games that Johnson is hurt. No one even considers Prince's durability, but if he's 40 runs over replacement level, he's +40...while I'd say Johnson is 20-25, so if he plays 100 and Nelson/Dillon play 60, that's what +12?
  7. I thought Gindl was pictured before as being A/A.... Anyway, he can still be a great player at 5-7, 5-9, whatever. However, because so few regulars in the majors are that small, it's common sense to downgrade him and expect less than if he were 6-2. It may not be fair, but Doug Flutie played his peak years in Canada before having some nice years well past his prime in the US. Small guys gotta do more to get the same chance.
  8. He'll be a #7/8 hitter for a while. Hopefully, he'll develop into a top of the order guy someday.
  9. Two comp picks after the first round, and the Yankees' 1st and 2nd round picks...unless they'd sign a higher ranked FA, then 3rd round. Teams are limited to signing 3 Type A & B FA's, unless there are more than 40 (or 60) Type A and B's total.
  10. While I don't think trading Prince will happen this offseason at all, trading Prince and replacing him with a platoon of middle infielders or a guy who can barely play 1B, or Brad Nelson for that matter, seems like pure folly. Now, if Prince could be dealt for Cano and Hughes, and a stopgap like an Overbay or Giambi brought in, there's an idea that could be debated. Right now though, the talk of trading Prince and opening up one hole as you fill another, simply is not the way Doug does business. MLBTR lists a few 1B that may be available, and one option that intrigued me was Adam LaRoche. I don't see PIT wanting Prince though, so it'd probably be an unlikely, hard to imagine swap. Just glancing around, I only really see the Angels and Yankees as a "match".
  11. that story didnt get quite as much coverage. If it bleeds, it leads. No one reports that 95-97% of mortgages are fine, for example. I'm not a believer in many forms of higher taxes, but I wish the state would employ some 0.1%, or heck, even some 0.01% additions to the sales tax and use the money for state parks, forests, campgrounds, clean lake programs, fish stocking, and basically anything that leads to tourism dollars. Consumption tax is not only very fair, but also hardly noticeable to the consumer...and everyone pays 'em, tourists, illegals, drug dealers, etc. Of course, getting those passed might be a battle. Ask George Petak.
  12. I'd say he is likely to be a "decent" LF defensively. His build certainly does not appear to be one of the quickness, and I doubt his arm is good enough to be anything more than a poor RF.
  13. 3y/$50M is a sound estimate. He might get 4y.
  14. A cash fund should not be losing. CD's or money markets may not grow much, but they should not lose a penny.
  15. They both could. Escobar will not be there long-term, as he profiles to a plus defensive SS.
  16. Pl, remember what Buffet would say...unless you plan on retiring tomorrow, that amount is meaningless. In fact, if you're under 45, I'd say it's all but a waste to even look at them. Just keep investing and at the end of your working days, you'll have no regrets.
  17. A more realistic LH SP target might be Odalis Perez, who had a nice comeback year with DC.
  18. With the career stats of Yo, and the '08 numbers of the 4 other projected starters, the Crew is about 4o runs worse than they were this year. Considering they won several more games than they should have, they likely project to a 82 win team, or thereabouts, at this second. I'm not sure if you can project more than a 2-3 win improvement from internal growth or not. More than likely, the team probably figures they are about an 84 win team right now, and knows they need to add a minimum of SP depth, as the drop off from McClung to #6 would be huge.
  19. That's why I'm not a market timer...but if I was, I'd dump in another 20% at 8500...which looks a lot cheaper than 9500 to me. Simply put, those people that got out today will look very silly in a relatively short of amount of time...probably less than a year, which is a blink of the eye for the market.
  20. Rivera's OBP in AAA was about .300. The odds of him hitting .300 over any length of time is nonexistent.
  21. Many pitchers would, actually. DC might like an athletic player or two.
  22. I predicted yesterday the know nothings would grade Gabe higher than Prince. All the rest is just fodder for those writing the obit for old media. It ain't the horrible writing, it's everything else...please.
  23. Corey's value is probably a bit lower than where it should be. I would not deal him unless overwhelmed.
  24. Hall would platoon somewhere if he is around, he kills LHP's. There's no need to keep around another RH bat.
  25. I don't think they trade Prince this offseason, but if they do, a nice starting point would be Rob Cano and Phil Hughes. One very good young player (had a bad 1st half of '08), and one of the best SP prospects in the game, still just 22. Melky Cabrera would be a nice throw in, as he has really fallen off his earlier numbers, but is still just 23 and a good defender.
