  1. The 2 run HR from Braun on the final day of the season will be remembered in 20 years. I'm not sure if any of the others will be.
  2. Wow, I must admit, Wal Mart and many other stocks look like bargains galore right now. I suppose such bargain hunting is why the market jumped up in the last 20 minutes of trading.
  3. Counsell's walk rate this year was superb, and he never hit 8th. It's about plate discipline.
  4. He seems to slot in as the 5th OF/LH bench bat. That said, he has a career 800 OPS at AAA, so he actually has plenty left to prove at that level. I agree with Joe that his ceiling is quite low, so AAA and a PH role looks to be as good as it gets.
  5. When I saw the drop (500 now), my first thought was of the "market timers" who were getting in last week, because 10600 was some sort of floor. I also found it ironic Jim Cramer says if you need the money in the next 5 years, you should just get out of the market now. I'd say that's the case regardless of how the market's doing.
  6. First of all, I cannot imagine any scenario in which Escobar plays 3B for any length of time. 2B is unlikely enough. Colby is right though, this is not a team built for '08 or bust. Hopefully, there will be a nice stretch of 5-7 years of success. That doesn't mean playoffs or even a .500 record every year, but it means not rebuilding in that time frame. The funny thing is, the 5 guys penciled into the rotation as of today would rank 6th in ERA in the NL, using their 2008 numbers (except Yo, whose sample was so tiny, I used his career stats). Now, going from 2nd to 6th is a loss of a few games, but other areas can be improved...as can starting pitching.
  7. I have little doubt an offer will be made, and it will be for a lot. However, no way it's more than others can pay, and I don't think 90 days in Milwaukee will make him a loyal fella willing to accept less to stay in a Midwestern small market. Note Sheets left the clubhouse in tears. 8/10 years is plenty of time...90 days ain't.
  8. Sounds like a frat house only for those able to play X instrument. I never would have guessed.
  9. I never got it either, come to think of it. No wonder tickets remain.
  10. In that case, I would see Seth as SP depth, which they will need, obviously. Every team needs at least a #6 and #7 SP, either in the 'pen or AAA.
  11. Seth certainly has the build and stamina to give them 200 innings of 4ish ERA baseball. Anyone can close, just like they found Torres this year. I leave him as a starter until he proves otherwise.
  12. I only know of Colby's recap, which says he throws well but needs work on all other aspects of his defense.
  13. Comparing what Gillespie did at 24 and in AA to what Hart did at 20/21 in AA, and then thinking Cole is going to magically be better in a year or two? Unlikely, to say the least. Cain at least does have upside.
  14. His lingering shoulder trouble is something the Crew will have to access. Guys who are banged up a lot when they're young tend to not become bastions of health as they get older.
  15. End, if you remove the games before Suppan's DL visit, when he was obviously trying to gut it out, I would say his numbers are nearly identical to his career. It just amazes me a couple years after we had Zach J and Dana E struggle immensely trying to fill the bottom spots of the rotation (both were rushed, albeit) and putting up a 6 ERA and trying to get through 5 that people still look down at a guy who throws 200 innings with a 4.50ish ERA.
  16. By rule bookm definition, you gotta basically take the ball out of your glove.
  17. Funny, we have one thread making people look foolish for saying Bush should go, and then another saying suppan should be released. Fool me once...
  18. DiFelice would have great success against all RH teams. He throws one pitch 90% of the time, and it goes down and in to LH hitters...not a recipe for success. He's probably a relief option, or AAA depth.
  19. Counsell is a far superior defender to Ray or Rickie, but I don't want to see Hall get 4 AB's versus a RHP to be better on the 2B's 4 touches either.
  20. I can't believe alcohol would ever be allowed on a campus bus. That seems to be problem #1.
  21. Young is a nice player, but as End points out, JJ is better, especially when you consider his youth and price.
  22. He's back unless his value is a ton on the trade market. He's young, athletic, and effective, so he might be of interest to a team priced out of the FA market. He could help bring a LH OBP bat as part of a package. He's a solid major league pitcher. Why anyone would change their mind after a bad outing or two is beyond me.
  23. And it's all but gotta be Blanton, unless they go with relievers for 2 each.
  24. Jeffress is almost certain to begin at AA. If he were 24, it'd be a different story.
