  1. I’m worried the Cubs will spend a lot of money like they did with Jason Heyward and Kosuke Fukudome. Maybe they can find the next Tyler Chatwood!
  2. I’d put you more in the anti-fascist category, which is a good place to be.
  3. I thought that if the Brewers tendered him, that meant they were on the hook for his arb salary. The most you can reduce a salary in arb is 20%, right? That means they would have needed to pay him a minimum of 8 million for next year. Not sure he would have accepted 2/12. And I am sure that the decision to non-tender didn’t happen without SOME discussion between woodruff and Arnold.
  4. I’m curious. . For those who see this as evidence that MA is cheap, or a bad owner, or, gaslighting the fans: Is there a break-even point for admitting that the team made the right decision on Woodruff? If he never pitches again? If he pitches in 2026? or to ask another way, how many years would you have signed Woodruff for? 1? That money is lit on fire and gone. 2? 3? What would have made you say, “Damn, nice work, MA?”
  5. I’m both sad that it ended this way, because I really enjoyed watching Woody pitch, and completely understand letting him go. It’s possible the Brewers have gotten a lot of medical advice on the viability of Woodruff ever throwing as hard again.
  6. I just texted my Bengal-fan friend that sports fandom has such a high percentage of misery. I think I will just become a front-running bandwagoner. I have some disposable income, I can get a jersey, hat, bobblehead of whichever team is hot. Even switch teams at halftime. Why not?
  7. Funny how being injured for two years ends up on the “encouraging “ side of the ledger.
  8. More like Oliver “playoff hopes are” Dunn, right?
  9. I can't say yes. I think he has shown what he is, and while any pitcher can go at any time, I don't trust him to stay healthy. 2020 was the last season he didn't miss significant time.
  10. And to add to that, Counsell never pitched, so there is no way he could manage a bullpen, right?
  11. I thought the last thing you wanted was Mattingly. I believe you typed: If this team hires Mattingly it will be due to Attanasio meddling so he could bring in a guy that he enjoyed watching as a player since he grew up a yankees fan. Out of all the names listed so far he is far and away the one that I want to avoid at all costs.
  12. Without any rationale to back it up, I wanted a new face in there. Maybe he was the brains behind the whole operation the whole time! I imagine in my disgruntlement over CC's departure, I could have picked apart any hire. My first snarky thought was, "what, Pat Corrales wasn't available? Frank Lucchesi? Larry Bowa? Bobby Valentine? Lee Elia would have been a good choice. <Insert old grumpy-looking guy name>?"
  13. You have the powder blue tux in your profile pic, and try to tell us you aren't old enough to remember those teams? Color me skeptical. LOL. I would have bet my powder blue leisure suit that we were a similar age.
  14. Why can't the Brewers have next year's Corbin Carroll? or Steven Kwan? A 5-WAR rookie can happen, and that would go a long way to helping this team compete. And I agree with the earlier comment that it's sad that our production at 1B has been so bad that we dream of an average guy there. Maybe Greg Brock is still available. Dude had 5.1 WAR in five seasons with Milwaukee. Imagine!!!!
  15. Yes, I was trying to dig into this, since I had believed the "youngest team" thing for a while. Is it roster age? I saw something that weighted it by snaps played. I don't have an answer.
  16. Yes, I hated seeing his name in there. Never considered him a trade candidate.
  17. The "youngest team in the league" excuse is weak, especially when you are the youngest, or among the youngest, every year. At that point it's a feature and not a bug. Calipari likes to moan that his UK teams are full of freshmen who make mistakes.
  18. What's the most negative spin that can be put on anything? You are relentless.
  19. You're all forgetting that he will be teammates with Javy Baez, so the improvement in his tagging skills will be worth 1-2 WAR alone.
  20. Why? Is he gonna quit? Get more money? Or you think he will underachieve and be fired? Not even sure of the point of this. Dude stayed in MKE for 9 years. He's not some job-hopper. Didn't even leave until his contract expired. I'm shocked, bummed, pissed off that it's the CUBS(!!!!!), but I don't know why you would speculate his job security. And if manager contracts are guaranteed, that's a nasty buyout. Silver lining: At least it's not the Cardinals? Nope, still feels like crap.
  21. So, how about that offseason handbook that dropped today? Anybody?
  22. Should have posted this on Halloween. Trade or treat! Andrew Chafin, Daniel Norris are my lefties out of the pen. John Curtiss and (World Series Champion) Matt Bush are my righties. Special nod to Dinelson Lamet, Jake Faria, Trevor Rosenthal, Justin Wilson. Jonathan "One Shining Moment" Schoop is manning second base. Andrew Susac is catching. Lol
  23. You just can't measure what a veteran like Matt Bush brought to the Rangers WS title run. Literally.
  24. I see your point. I guess I've become numb to the salary numbers in sports. The new contracts are always more than the ones before them. And at only .5 million more, it doesn't even register in my brain. Different sport, but to me, contracts such as Jimbo Fisher getting 10/$75m from A&M, Mel Tucker getting 10/$95 from MSU are examples. Gruden 10/$100with the Raiders. More years AND more dollars. Deshaun Watson getting 230 million guaranteed. That's a reset. If they go 10/$70 million with CC, I would say the same thing.
  25. I hate to disagree, but Hoffa is buried in the end zone of the old Meadowlands. Hence, the term, "coffin corner" for a punt.
