  1. Here's a guy I thought was done based on his repertoire and truly awful numbers to start the year, but lo and behold very quietly Suter has rounded into form and been doing a very good job for Milwaukee out of the pen. Since June 1st: 31.2 IP, 21H, 8bb, 4 HR, 27K, 10 er. That comes out to a WHIP of 0.92, an ERA of 2.84, 1.1 HR/9 and a 3.3:1 strike out to walk ratio. Sorry for doubting you Suter, keep up the good work!
  2. I think they have as good a shot as any at Wild Card #2 and Wild Card #3 (especially with their best starter Zach Wheeler, and two best bullpen pitchers (Knebel and Dominguez) on the DL. The Brewers are now 6 games out of first, with only 4 remaining against St. Louis. Both teams have just 13 games remaining against winning teams but the Brewers have 39 total games remaining to the Cardinals' 37. The Brewers chances for the Division for all intents and purposes hang on the remaining four games with the Cardinals. Short of taking at least 3 of 4 of those remaining games they don't have a realistic path to the Division title.

  4. September 1st Jace Peterson---> Pablo Reyes Trevor Rosenthal* ----> Jason Alexander Frelick to MLB Cousins to MLB * I don't know how it works with Rosenthal, in order to be post season eligible must he be activated on the major league roster? If so, they most assuredly will activate him to get post season eligibility, then if he's not healthy, place him on the DL and recall a different pitcher. I would bet on one hitter (Frelick) and then shuffling their roster with the other spot as well as Alexander's roster spot to get their preferred pitchers: Ashby, Gott, Rosenthal, Cousins to the major league roster as they become healthy.
  5. Whatever amount of prorated salary they’re paying him certainly didn’t prevent them from making other moves so it’s irrelevant. The minor league player if he even sees the majors will have beaten the odds. It was a salary dump for the Giants.
  6. By the way, the Dodgers are illustrating how you play baseball 10+ runs without a homer yet.
  7. At least it was 3 million per year and not Runslevy Castillo who the Red Sox gave 100 million and never played him.
  8. The bloom is certainly off his rose. There was some article on the main page about adjustments he made, the article was either wrong or he went back to the way he’s always pitched since he turned pro….. poorly.
  9. Smart acquisition or not, the reasoning isn't hard to figure out: when healthy Rosenthal is electric: 364 innings, 490 strike outs 19(!) homers allowed. His arm was actually healthy, this time he was laid up with a hamstring injury. It's a gamble that was probably worth taking and shows that Stearns likes his team's chances getting a guy who he knows will be out several weeks with a leg injury. As sometimes they do, it looks like this deal will come up snake eyes.
  10. More content equals more "clicks", more "clicks" equals more $$ for the proprietors.
  11. You’re probably going to get your wish; because when better then 50 percent of a player’s hits go over the fence for homers (like Hiura this month); they’re likely going to play every night. Hiura August: 29 plate appearances, 8 hits, zero doubles, zero triples, 5 homers, one walk and 11 Ks.
  12. You might be correct that they wrote Hiura off, but it’s August and they’ve been struggling to win ball games for the better part of a month. All these guys from the front office to the dugout to the players know heads tend to roll when teams with big expectations crash and burn. The Brewers haven’t crashed yet but they’re definitely losing altitude fast. As such, the money isn’t a factor if it ever was.
  13. There's millions of Americans every day who take a dig at their employer, it's not really noteworthy other than he's a semi-famous professional athlete. However, Eric Lauer's FIP this year of 4.77 (too many walks, too many ding dongs) places him near the bottom of the pile of staring pitchers in the NL Central in terms of FIP, which is undoubtedly one of many reasons the Brewers are where they are this year. Thus, he's literally one of the guys not holding up his end, and nonetheless decides to take a shot at his employer. It's a fair question to wonder if he looks wise or foolish. To me, it's almost like Homer Simpson taking a shot at Mr. Burns for how he runs the plant.
  14. Sounds like you need to have a conversation with Craig about the definition of better, because he disagrees with you, and I don't think he got stupid overnight.
  15. Those last four words some it up. These are all professionals who are paid to try to win baseball games, its lunacy to suggest a manager would subvert his team because he doesn't like a player or player's style. If Hiura hit .375 with 50 homeruns he could fail to run out fly balls, insult Counsell's wife and still hit cleanup every night. In this instance, the manager himself stated he'd like to get Hiura in the games more but it would mean moving McCutchen to CF, and to date he's believed in terms of overall strength McCutchen (DH) + Taylor/Davis > Hiura (DH) + McCutchen.
  16. Looking at that video clip, it looks like some line drives and balls the other way
  17. Ha ha. Yep, Counsell is racking up losses and damaging his reputation as a manager because he'd doesn't like a player. By that rationale he wouldn't like 90% of the players on the team because Counsell had zero pop (.344 slg).
  18. The snarky response is Lauer should worry more about doing his job. He single handedly gave the Nationals a win in June, and after the Brewers knocked Wainwright out of a game in June after 4 2/3, Lauer gave it all back and then some in a loss to the Cardinals. His inability to make it five innings in nearly 25% of his starts this year has hurt the team too.
  19. Urias has been brutal in August. Peterson/Brosseau platoon at 3B, Hiura at DH, 2B, 1B (Wong is in the midst of a 4-36 slump) makes the most sense
  20. When Peterson comes back, who goes? Given the manager's comments about exploring ways to get Hiura more at bats, I'd imagine Urias is the odd man out until September 1st.
  21. If you read the quotes from Counsell, it hasn't simply been which bat is better. He believes McCutchen at DH and Taylor/Davis in CF is a better configuration than Hiura at DH and McCutchen in CF. Hard to argue his logic is wrong, maybe the anger should be directed towards the front office for brining in McCutchen in the first place, although given what Hiura showed in 2020 and 2021, it was prudent to have another option at DH.
  22. Adames is fine as a shortstop but with his contact and OBP performance this year, he’s Jose Hernandez II stead of Corey Seager II
  23. Honest question: based on what they’ve shown this year are there any position players you’d actually want to see return in ‘23? Caratini? Jace Petersen? Maybe Tellez and Renfroe? Adames is fine as a shortstop but he went from budding superstar to a guy who they easily let walk with six years service time.
  24. I’d trade Happ, Hoerner, Wisdom, Contreras straight up for their counter parts on the Brewers. Probably Morel as well.
  25. The good news is the Brewers have four more games remaining than San Diego and are two games out of the last wild card spot, so the Brewers ,control their own destiny for the 2nd wild card, but yeah they need to start winning more than twice a week.
