  1. They'll get a 2022 compensatory selection when Fuller signs with a new team this offseason.
  2. Yes, the Packers would likely recoup a 2022 compensatory pick if they don't re-sign him. Best it could be is a 3rd, but it would likely be a 4th.
  3. Yea, not for a half year rental. The compensatory pick formula is complicated, but wouldn't he most likely bring them a 4th round pick if he leaves in FA? It could be as high as a 3rd, but I don't think that's a lock. To save some salary you would think they'd be fine with taking a 3rd rounder back now that is higher than any comp pick. Plus the pick would be in the 2021 draft, while a compensatory selection would come in 2022. Picks today are always more valuable than picks tomorrow.
  4. Not really my point. I guess I'm missing your point then. I don't think the Brewers moved on from Thames because he was too expensive. They likely could have gotten him on a lesser deal if they wanted him. They moved on because they simply wanted to move on, and viewed Smoak as a better alternative. As it turned out, they basically traded junk for more junk.
  5. Still have Dexter Williams on the practice squad who could be activated. I have not seen him linked to the close contact list. It's official both Jamaal Williams and Kamal Martin are out for Thursday. Hopefully they were just being abundantly cautious with Jones and he can play Thursday, otherwise we're looking at Dexter's Midnight Runner.
  6. I think/hope that these options are being declined because Stearns believes that players like Gyorko will be available for less than the option value, not because it means that the Brewers don't have $3.5M to spend on a corner IF. This is the same reason he used for declining Thames' option last year and we ended up with Justin Smoak. Who was actually better than Thames. Thames was terrible last year. That was no loss. At all.
  7. I have no idea how much the Brewers were spending on the social media team, but it has to be peanuts compared to an average MLB player's salary. This is not a good sign at all. Granted, every penny counts, but it takes A LOT of cuts like this to make up one Eric Sogard. I'm very nervous for what the 2021 team will be. How do we know for sure it was cost-related, though? Perhaps they just decided to go in a different direction?
  8. Erceg was quite the prep pitcher, and did log some solid innings as a reliever at Cal. I mean, if he's never going to make it as a bat, it would be nice to get something out of him.
  9. That would be a HUGE risk, but I like thinking outside the box! Well that's a brain fart. Fixed it Also, Gyorko is a right-handed hitter. If he batted lefty, I'm positive the Brewers would have picked up his option, given the team's affinity for left-handed power bats.
  10. Griep is 27, and didn't even make the pitching-deficient Rockies' 60-man player pool this past summer. I'm not sure he was a major loss.
  11. That show was much better than it had any right to be. Thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife and I are through episode 7, and it has been a very enjoyable watch. This world needs more people like Ted Lasso right now. It's one of those shows that makes you feel better after watching it. We need more positivity in the world right now.
  12. whew! Until he is signed somewhere else, I don't think we are completely out of the woods.
  13. Well I guess we're going to see how good of a GM Stearns can be putting together a roster with table scraps. It's going to be a very interesting offseason I think. He tried the "plug the holes with mid-salary level vets" approach, which didn't really work. I wonder what the approach will be this year? Remember, Attanasio recently cashed out on a huge chunk of his investment firm, so he has a lot of capital to invest somewhere. https://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2020/10/23/brewers-attanasio-to-sell-majority-stake-in-his.html I don't think we'll see payroll increase, or any huge contracts, but I guess you never know.
  14. The Vikings secondary was already terrible without their top three CBs being hurt. I don't want to put the cart too much before the horse, but Sunday might be a bloodbath.
  15. Welp, I am surprised. Perhaps I shouldn't be, though. Hopefully they still find a way to bring him back. Watch them really screw with us and pick up Sogard's option now LOL
  16. That's honestly the first time I've heard that one on the conspiracy train. I also don't think it is anywhere close to the truth. Why in the world would someone be admitted to the ICU if they didn't show the symptoms to warrant them being there? That theory makes absolutely no sense.
  17. That is certainly a lot to unpack. But I am pretty confident in saying that if you are expecting any of this to happen, you're going to be disappointed. Well, there's probably a strong possibility that the Brewers decline Braun's and Sogard's options, but that's it.
  18. Oh man ... not liking where this is going. I mean, the Indians are kind of notoriously cheap, but this brings it to a different level.
  19. Are we turning back the clock to 2015? Since opening day of 2016 (covering 2000+ at bats), Todd Frazier has hit .226/.318/.431, struck out in 26% of his at bats, and will be 35 by opening day 2021. I hope the team has their sights set higher than bringing in another aging veteran who struggles to make contact and get on base. Didn't they already have Sogard multiple times? Frazier signed a $5 million guaranteed deal with the Rangers last January ($3.5 million base, $5.75 million option for 2021 with a $1.5 million buyout). I suspect he's looking at perhaps a little less than that this year, but probably not by much. He's also entering his age 35 season. For roughly what's probably going to be around the same amount of money, I'll take Gyorko hands down to handle the bulk of the 3B chores in 2021.
  20. Don't sleep on Arozarina, though. All he's done since getting into affiliated ball is hit. He's also major league ready. I think he's a stud. Glad to see him out of the NL Central. Blind squirrel ... nut ... something or other If this proves anything, it's that the Rays really know their stuff when it comes to talent recognition and player development. I guess they have to be to as competitive as they've been with by far the lowest payroll in the division they play in. The Rays are the franchise teams like the Brewers need to emulate, not the other way around.
  21. I think it's pretty obvious that whoever ends up signing Turner this offseason better plan on not having him for what's likely going to be a lengthy suspension, judging by the statement MLB just released on the matter:
  22. Fuller is on the last year of his deal, the 5th year option on his original rookie contract. He is, for the most part, a rental, although he would likely recoup a pick for the Packers depending on the size and type of deal he signs in the offseason. I would imagine he's the type that would garner a 4th round compensatory pick, so I would imagine the Packers could probably get him for a 4th rounder, while eating the rest of his deal this year. That would, in essence, mean that they would only be trading the Texans salary relief for him. I suppose it's possible the Packers may go as high as a 3rd round pick for him.
  23. I think Lazard was doing a pretty good emerging imitation before he went down. it appears that he's close to returning, but who knows how effective he will be with that type of injury.
  24. I'm just glad that they seemingly recognize the need for another weapon on the offensive side of the ball, even though the offense has been pretty dang good this year. Fuller's injury history is scary, but he would bring true game-breaking speed to the team.
  25. It sucks, but I'm glad the Big Ten is taking this seriously. I don't know if the majority of the SEC even acknowledges the existence of COVID.
