  1. In theory, the Dodgers could have simply just signed him after the Brewers' likely non-tender. I wonder if there was more than one team interested?
  2. Well, this is better than the likely non-tender and letting him go for nothing.
  3. I guess this means that he is being tendered a contract ... except by the Dodgers.
  4. Gamel, Claudio and Peterson reportedly non-tendered. Woodruff and Hader tendered (obviously). With the reported signings, that takes care of all of them.
  5. Well, Freitas and Nottingham are out of options, and Maile was one remaining, so it makes sense to have an experienced vet in AAA. Bummer that this likely means Nottingham's route to big league time is tougher now.
  6. You may have to change your handle to MaileMadness. Edit: or not. Pina back too. Guess we're going the Chicago Bears TE route with catchers this year.
  7. For sure. If he even comes close to approaching his previous offensive numbers, this is a bargain. He proved last season he isn't near the defensive liability many were worried he'd be.
  8. Plus this team has plenty of low contact/high K/low average hitters. I've had enough of pursuing that type of guy. Eric Thames was basically a few years older clone of Schwarber, and the Brewers let him walk. Doubt they'd be interested in Schwarder, especially at the price he's likely to cost.
  9. Omar Manuel Jacob Luke David I just had a Sunday school flashback while looking at the Brewers catching depth chart.
  10. A couple unverified rumors floating around the Twittersphere are indicating that the Brewers have signed Vogelbach to a 1-year deal between $1.2 and $1.5 million.
  11. Even if that huge number is true, that is still only roughly 30% of the US population. To achieve effective herd immunity, the thresholds I've seen are in the 70-75% range.
  12. Sounds about right. Until yesterday, I had no recollection that not only was Austin the 8th overall pick of the 2013 draft, but that the Rams traded up from 16, giving up their 2nd and 7th to take him. Didn't come close to living up to that value for them. Can't help but see some similarities here to how Desmond Howard ended up on the Packers, right down to being a former high draft pick WR who washed out at a couple previous stops. Hopefully this move is as fruitful.
  13. Ad far as I can tell, the Packers only have 51 players on the active roster currently, which leaves room for both Barnes and Dillon once they are deemed healthy. Rush effectively takes Montravius Adams' spot, as Adams went on the DL. Austin takes Shepard's spot. Still only leaves 51 active.
  14. As a Type I diabetic, I'm high risk. I have no fear of getting the vaccine, and will likely get it is soon as I am able. My wife and kids will get it as soon as they can as well. If someone chooses not to get it, as far as I'm concerned, that's on them, and I'm not going to feel super bad if they contract COVID when a vaccine could have been used to avoid it.
  15. If I remember right, Howard Green had bounced around quite a bit before the Packers grabbed him during the 2010 season. He ended up playing a huge roll on that team's playoff run, and in the Super Bowl. But then, Green was a veteran, while Rush is pretty inexperienced. I'm wondering if Dontari Poe has gotten himself healthy in the last couple months since the Cowboys dropped him? If he's right, he'd be a huge asset to the defensive front. Gilbert Brown was inexperienced when we got him too. But we love the "it worked" examples. We forget about the dozens of "it failed miserably" examples for every positive one. But you can't find the good examples without trying. Hopefully, he becomes GraveDigger 2.0. If anything, at 6'4" and 361 lbs, he can clog up a running lane or two simply by being out there.

  17. If they could have foreseen the global pandemic, I'm guessing they might have waited on the Yelich extension. He signed the contract less than a week before spring training shut down. The WHO declared COVID-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on January 30th. Must have just magically appeared with no warning that could have been forseen. Uhh ... when they shut down Spring Training, the common train of thought was that it would be for a couple of weeks to a month. COVID really wasn't on the forefront of anyone's mind when Yelich signed his extension. Perhaps that was part of the problem/mistake, but that doesn't make it any less true.
  18. Bohm has a lot of potential, but holy undervaluing our own players, Batman!
  19. Agreed. I don't see any chance that Narvaez isn't back this year. But then, this team has surprised me quite a bit lately with their personnel decisions, so who knows?
  20. I agree. I don't know how long Brees is out, but I'd be shocked if Taysom Hill goes undefeated while he's still the starter. They have a game against the Chiefs on Dec. 20, so it's no sure thing they win out after Brees comes back too.
  21. Agree ... Billy Turner has me not really missing Bulaga much at all. I think Bulaga is probably a little more talented, but that is negated by his injury issues. Turner has looked fine out there.
  22. YouTube TV has a much better platform, and it isn't really close IMO. It really is pretty awesome. Hulu Live TV has gotten a lot better in the last 12 months, but YouTube TV has better responsiveness and fewer glitchy issues. Thanks, I know a few people with Hulu...no one with YouTube TV though. It does seem most of them have issues with Hulu on a pretty regular basis. One time the Packers game crashed on an intense final drive...talk about a cringe moment. I am hoping the FOX RSNs will come back before the start of baseball season. From what I read a major reason that hasn't happened yet is because COVID pretty well ruined the sports seasons and right now there is not much reason to try and make a deal because now those sports are over. It would be in the Fox RSN's best interest to get something figured out soon in time for the start of the NBA season. I'm hoping that Sinclair's partnership with Bally's (the sports betting company) might open some things back up soon.
  23. There, fixed. The Bears are not a terrible team. They have several very good skill position guys on offense, and a ton of talent on defense. They aren't a pushover. It bothers me that so many in this fanbase seem to think that the Packers should be blowing out everyone 45-3 every week. This is the NFL. That's just not how things typically work. This game was a drubbing. It was over a full hour before the final whistle. Some garbage time offense and a couple random long plays from the Bears on offense in the first half didn't change that. The Packers outclassed a decent Bears team last night, and it wasn't even close. The Bears are a pretty bad team. They're nowhere close to being a decent team. They're terrible. Blowing out teams isn't the point and the garbage time points isn't really it either. The run defense wasn't good before garbage time. The Packers are a good team. I am simply saying the issues they had when they got drubbed last January still exist and are likely to rear their ugly heads in January again. That's all. But I do think that the NFC lacks a team the quality of last year's 49ers team, so we do have a chance. The Bears rushed for 122 yards last night, nearly half of which (57 yards) of which came on one play. Other than that one play, I thought the run defense was fine. Granted that one play was terrible, and in no way should Kenny Clark be the only man that needs to be moved to create a hole big enough to drive a semi through, but it was one play. That was just a terrible scheme. They cleaned it up after that, and were actually pretty good in the limited attempts the Bears made at running the ball. Kamal Martin was active last night. Kirksey needs to be more aggressive at times, but he wasn't terrible. It would be nice to get Barnes back soon, as he was a little more of a thumper that is needed against the run. I wonder if the Packers might think about giving Dontari Poe a call? He played quite poorly early in the year for the Cowboys, but said at the time of his release that he was never right physically, and was interested in joining a contender near the end of the season after letting himself heal. He brings a pedigree as a solid run stuffer. Could be this year's version of Howard Green.
