  1. You mention Black as a possible swap. If Baty's defense is rough and his bat iffy, what would be the point of swapping Black for him then? Black has those same issues.
  2. But that doesn't fit the "this team sucks" and the "front office is stupid" narrative!
  3. It isn't nothing, but it's also difficult to factor in future value on a deal that isn't signed yet, if ever.
  4. Extending him or not is kind of immaterial to to the conversation, though, IMO. The long and short of it is that they made a deal for a guy with one year of control left.
  5. That was viewed as a terrible trade even then, and quite possible a big reason why the Cubs' window with that team was closed so quickly.
  6. Paredes is a 25-year-old power-hitting 3B who the Cubs just got from the Rays. Cam Smith was their 1st round pick in 2024. Wesneski is a young, hard-throwing reliever with a lot of promise. They gave up a lot.
  7. I think moreso its a bunch of guys with belief in a front office which has made many, many more moves which can be described as "shrewd" than not.
  8. Fried compared to Cortes, against what is probably inferior hitting competition and in more pitcher-friendly stadiums. Fried has more of a track record, obviously, but the two compare pretty favorably. And Fried just signed a MASSIVE deal.
  9. I'm sure the Yankees look at him as an upgrade, but Cortes has very similar career numbers to Max Fried, who just signed the biggest deal ever handed to a left-handed starter.
  10. Frelick, Mitchell, Perkins, Turang and now Durbin. It is obvious that the Brewers love uber-fast athletes. If anything, this is going to be a very exciting team to watch on the basepaths this year. This team will likely challenge the all-time Brewers SB record of 256 set in 1992 (also a very exciting team). For reference, they had 217 in 2024.
  11. Many were upset with the return for Hader as well. Taylor Rogers flopped, Lamet was a nothingburger, but Gasser has shown real talent, and will hopefully make a full recovery from TJ. And of course Ruiz turned into Contreras and Payamps.
  12. Civale will be in the rotation too. Can never have enough quality starting arms. Woody is a huge ???.
  13. Durbin was the breakout player of the year in the Arizona Fall League. Stout, compact middle infielder with pop.
  14. Sounds like Nestor Cortes is part of the return. Solid lefty starter. 30 years old. Two more years of control.
  15. With the knack this franchise has for developing solid, if not spectacular relief pitching, not only am I not surprised, I'm also not overly alarmed.
  16. I think you are obviously placing way too much value on one year of Corbin Burnes.
  17. As has been established many, many times, it is a good thing you are not running the team's personnel department.
  18. Interesting pitching matchup tonight. Which former Oakland A's standout starter will prevail?
  19. NO ONE expected anything out of the Brewers this year. House money.
  20. Rea is a bit of a surprise seeing that he was one of the most consistent starters throughout the season. They must figure that he is 5th right now behind Peralta, Civale, Montas and Myers. Also, LHPs Koenig, Ashby and Hall negate the need for Milner. Feel bad for Hudson because he was so valuable throughout the season. Surprised that Mears made it.
  21. LOL this game is insane
  22. So is the perfect Brewer scenario for the Braves to win Game 1, then the Mets to have to throw Severino and their "A" lineup in a Game 2 elimination game?
