  1. So many people on Twitter hoping that the Packers "sign" Hakeem Butler. I don't think any of them actually know how NFL waivers work. It is likely he'll be a Dolphin or Bengal before the end of the day tomorrow.
  2. I'd imagine Stearns checked in on Didi, but I'm pretty sure two reasons he mentioned liking Philly were the proximity to NY & his old manager Girardi was there. Tweet mentioning Brewers as runner up & Girardi playing a factor... Brewers must have given up on Didi. They dealt for Urias two weeks before Gregorius signed. This would be a much better team with Didi, Davies and Grisham than it is with Urias, Lauer and Garcia. You can argue well they would only have Didi for 60 games, but there was no way they knew that in December. It's a good thing that player acquisition isn't a year-to-year proposition then, isn't it? Urias was the key to that deal, and likely has a substantially higher upside than the other pieces of that deal. And he's Brewer property for 6 years.
  3. Dexter Williams gone too. Not enough space in the RB room with Dillon around now.
  4. Malik Taylor too. He's a holdover from last year's practice squad. Been seeing a little pub on him this week as a surprise roster guy. Normally they keep 6, but if they go heavy at TE, then we might see only 5. Plus Tyler Ervin has been practicing with the WRs all camp, so I think he's a WR now, more or less. I personally hope Begelton makes it. He's a really fun story. Edit - Shepherd just got cut.
  5. And the Wisconsin homers are already triggered this morning. I mean, guys like Kumerow have some value, but they can keep a younger guy with much more upside around at #4-5 WR. It seems that Tyler Ervin is basically a WR now, and he's a lock to make the team, which effects the numbers too.
  6. I never thought we'd see the day where Brent Suter is one of this team's five most valuable and indispensable players, but here we are.
  7. Ryan Braun may be held together by bailing twine and duct tape by this point, but that is still one of the sweetest swings in baseball.
  8. First one that came to my mind was Matt Stairs....who is 52 years old if you want to feel really old yourself. So is Hamelin! Man some of those late 90s/early 2000s teams were terrible! Stairs did manage to pretty much play forever, though.
  9. I think this decision was made 100% on the fact that Vogelbach is a full 6 years younger than Smoak. I mean, if you are going to pay a guy for crappy 1B/DH production, why not pay the guy making much less who is substantially younger? This is really a low- to no-risk pickup. If Vogelbach sucks, it isn't like you lose much because Smoak also sucks. If he gets hot, or at least average, he's cheap and you can hang onto him next year for cheap. If he sucks, cut him and move on.
  10. The failure of Lucas Erceg to develop is still rearing its ugly head.
  11. It does not. In fact, I'm not 100% why you are bringing up that point (yet AGAIN) in another thread.
  12. What am I missing? Trying to save on the $1M buyout? Just looking at stats Vogelbach is nothing special. Okay seasons in the minors, but I don't think there was anything special stats-wise as it is the PCL. Vogelbach is another very low average, big whiff, swing for the fences on every pitch guy. I guess this is another one of Stearns throw-crap-against-the-wall type moves. Not much lost with Smoak. I guess they really don't think much of Healy either if he wasn't brought up. Is that 5 journeymen types Stearns has DFA'd so far? I honestly forgot Healy was even Brewer property.
  13. At least David Stearns has been pretty quick to admit his mistakes this year and move on. First Morrison, then Brock Holt and Justin Grimm and now Smoak. Sometimes you catch a little lightning in a bottle with these older vet reclamation projects, and sometimes you don't. They've done reasonably well with Gyorko, Brett Anderson and Phelps. Needed to hit on more of those guys to be a contender this year, though.
  14. Is Doug Melvin back? Dan Vogelbach is very much a Doug Melvin-type player. Probably means Gyorko to 1B most days, which means more Sogard! Yay!
  15. No, because Funchess's contract automatically tolls to 2021. Thanks ... the Packers could probably use BJ Goodson right now. I imagine there will be a handful of ILBs of similar talent level available Saturday afternoon, either via small trade, waivers or free agency.
  16. I don't know about crappy. I was thinking more "meh".
  17. That is the Avisail Garcia of logos.
  18. No, because Funchess's contract automatically tolls to 2021.
  19. Eric Yardley has been a pleasant surprise, as has Claudio's success. And Suter continues to be Suter (which is a really good pitcher). Excited to see more of Rasmussen and Topa too.
