  1. Story of Arcia's season. Follows up messing up a play that 99% of MLB SS make by making one that 1% can make.
  2. Nothing could be more true. Sadly. Since all this is right on the money, the only thing I can see the team doing now is getting serviceable rentals for the rest of the season. Basically, other team's #4's and #5's and veteran iffy relievers on July 31. We might even have to take on salary to get it done. I thought a big name was coming our way, but not any more. The fringe chance is trying to trade for a Bauer so we have him next year too. I can't see us getting rid of Moose and Grandal so we are not giving up in July. There are only 4 games now before the deadline, and even if we lose them all.... probably not enough to trade off parts. The majority of fans will not be in support of the team giving up or in in July. I NOW cannot see us adding big because of the cost to do it (with so many teams in contention) and our vast dire needs, not just one or two guys anymore. You get two veteran pitchers before the deadline. That's what they need. Minor league players won't work deep in the playoffs. Look at Chris Middleton of the Bucks. He showed no experience hurt the Eastern Conference games in both Toronto and Milwaukee. He choked big time. The team needs veterans NOW. Old post, but this is exactly what they did with the acquisitions of Jordan Lyles and Drew Pomeranz, which they received quite a bit of panning for initially. As it turns out, those two are responsible for keeping this pitching staff afloat.
  3. Gutsy move from Hernan to throw home. Could have been bad. Really bad.
  4. Gio doesn't have it so far. Better be ready with the hook before things get out of hand. You have extreme depth right now ... no need for the baby seal treatment.
  5. He showed up in the dugout last night almost immediately after Moose his his second HR, and was getting a bunch of congrats from the guys and was part of the "gauntlet". It was a cool little moment to see him and Moose embrace and actually congratulate each other.
  6. Happy to see Tyler Austin getting a start at 1B today. He's put some good ABs on tape in his very limited sample size.
  7. I think the best comparison would be Kirk Gibson in the 1988 World Series. Of course, we probably don't remember the times when a player returned early from injury to play in the World Series only to not do something heroic.
  8. The Brewers are not in control of who they play. All they can control is whether they play well against the teams on their schedule. It it isn't like this team hasn't looked like crap against the Marlins this season. In control of their own destiny simply means they do not need teams ahead of them to lose games in order to qualify for the playoffs. As for the eulogy, keep in mind, the Brewers on September 12th are four games out of first, they were four games out of first place on August 4th. The only significant change over the last five weeks is that the Cubs have taken on water while the Brewers have kept pace and gotten themselves back in the discussion. I wouldn't mind being wrong and taking the internet grief that goes along with it. Time will tell. My comment was more directed at the idea that you're saying this is a last gasp because they are playing the Marlins. You have to beat the teams on your schedule. Win enough of 'em, and you're in. The way it shook out this year, the Brewers appear to have an easier strength of schedule than most of the other contenders for the last 20 games. Of course, it is up to them to prove they are the better team.
  9. I would take a one-legged Yelich over Freitas any day. Obviously a big indicator of their intentions will be whether to put Yelich on the 60-day DL in order to add an additional depth piece for these remaining 17 games. The question would be whether it's more valuable to add an extra deep depth piece like Nate Orf, Luke Barker, Miguel Sanchez, or J.P. Feyereisen for the remainder of the regular season, or keep Yelich on the active roster in the unlikely event that the team makes the World Series, and he's healthy enough to actually do something in it.
  10. That is going to depend on if Woodruff is built up to the point where he can throw 80 pitches. If he is, you probably slot him into a playoff rotation with Houser, Lyles and one of Gio/Anderson/Davies. If Woody isn't starting, though, then things get dicier. Davies provides potential value as a guy that can come in and pitch multiple innings out of the pen as well. In the end, it might come down to including him or someone like Jay Jackson on a playoff roster.
  11. Good news, and would be a huge addition for the last couple weeks of the season.
  12. He's not even the OC. Kevin Stefanski is. Kubiak is assistant head coach. He is the first Super Bowl winning HC to resurface as an assistant later on, but several SB losers have taken that route, including Ken Wisenhunt, Jim Caldwell, Bill Callahan, Jim Fassel, Sam Wyche, Raymond Berry, and John Rauch.
  13. More the fact I found it funny he did something new, was terrible, and was like "yah, I am going to do it tomorrow too". Kinda proves that we wasn't doing it with his own stats in mind, doesn't it?
  14. Goosebumps. Literal goosebumps. We need to stop comparing this team to the 2018 team. They are their own team, and will have their own story when it's all said and done.
  15. The Brewers are not in control of who they play. All they can control is whether they play well against the teams on their schedule. It it isn't like this team hasn't looked like crap against the Marlins this season.
  16. Who would have thought that Suter of all people would be this season's version of 2018 Burnes?
  17. Villar is having a nice year for a horrible team. Certainly not the first time a guy has fallen out of favor for a contender, went to a bad team and excelled. No idea if he would have put up the same kind of numbers with this current version of the Brewers, because baseball isn't played in a vacuum. I can tell you that if Villar was still on this team, Moustakas likely wouldn't be. Also, there's really no place for Villar to play, unless he was going to supercede Arcia as the team's everyday SS.
  18. This is quite possibly the worst analogy I’ve seen here. 50+ percent of NBA teams make the playoffs each year. If the brewers make the playoffs two consecutive years it would be absolutely huge for the franchise. From the occasional pretenders to legit contenders. Just a horrible take, and a horrible comparison. Ugh. Nope. This is an unusual year. Normally good teams make the wild card. Not this year. It will be a crap fest. The NBA #8 seed analogy is appropriate this year. I'll take bets from anyone who wants to put the Brewers in the NLCS. Wow. I'm beginning to think you really are Sal Bando, and are jaded by your time as the team's GM.
  19. I expect the Packers to contain Cook for the most part. They are going to make Cousins beat them. Can he? Personally I think he kind of sucks. Not to Trubisky’s level, but still pretty bad. Still, Vikings have a good defense, so I expect a low scoring game.
  20. So he wears two jerseys and has a terrible game. Yup, let’s try again tomorrow. Try three or four next time. Way to be a dang buzzkill. I personally thought it was pretty cool of Braun to do that. I’m sure his teammates thought it was cool as well. I think sometimes we forget that these guys are human. Yeah, Braun didn’t have a good game tonight. There are other ways to make positive contribution, and he may have found one. Hopefully his bat heats up, because they are going to need it.
  21. Yep, great to hear. Should easily be back fully healthy for spring training next year. You know that guy is going to work his butt off rehabbing too.
  22. I’ll be skeptical until the Brewers give a timetable, but that is positive news. That timeframe would set Yelich up for a potential Kirk Gibson moment should the Brewers defy every expectation.
  23. I think Counsell said a few days ago that Pina would be back to catch Thursday. I’d be fine with giving Austin a start at 1B too.
