  1. Looking at what others are going for ... yes. I mean, a couple solid but not spectacular guys from the Marlins just netted a top SS/3B prospect (and MLB Top 100 guy) from the Jays.
  2. So? Yeah, it was 12 starts, but they were elite-level, and we aren't talking about a super long time ago. Yeah, he's had some injury concerns since then, but the arm talent that made him a high-end prospect is still there.
  3. Garrett Mitchell hasn't even had a Single A AB. He torched A+ last year, which earned him a promotion to AA ball. After a slow start this year, he's been heating up in AA, and has his OPS up to .781, and if the rumors are correct, was recently promoted to AAA. If there is an consternation about Mitchell's future, its that he's been relatively injury-prone so far in his young career. But other than some scuffling after his call-up to AA last season, hitting hasn't been an issue.
  4. Yeha, don't let the absolute fact that he isn't a centerfielder slow you down ...

  6. It isn't so much that I'm denigrating Bell. He's a quality DH bat. But defense has value. A all-around player who can hit like Benintendi and play good OF defense is going to be more valuable than a bat-only 1B/DH, even if the bat-only guy has more power and a better overall bat. That was my whole argument ... that I don't believe Bell is going to bring back substantially more value in a deal than Benintendi did. I expect the returns to be pretty similar value-wise.

  8. Why would Bell bring back substantially more than Benentendi? Bell does provide more power, but he's also more streaky career-wise. Also, Benentendi is a solid if not elite corner OF defender who could also play CF. Bell provides no defensive value.

  10. I apologize if it appears that I was attributing the "“dumpster fire with no hope of doing anything in the playoffs” idea to you. That was more of a general statement that probably envelopes a number of posters here. I don't really think it should be met with any sort of surprise, though, that when the posters who are consistently negative and pessimistic make those type of assertions, they will be met with others who make an aggressive attempt to refute them. And so what if someone disagrees with your view and believes that the offense is just fine. It's a message board. People are going to disagree. Why rip on those who are using advanced stats as part of their argument? For the record, I'm not a fan of this article. It cherry picks advanced stats to paint a negative picture of the rest of the season, without taking the idea of internal improvement or outside acquisitions into consideration.
  11. In my day job, I'm literally a magazine editor. So yeah, maybe I have a little OCD about the capitalization thing.
  12. That was a lot of words to make a point that I'm not sure needed to be made. Tellez is not a superstar, but he's far from the top of this team's problems. He's a solid defensive 1B, and is one of the few bats that opposing teams need to take note of. Even if this team acquires a bat like Josh Bell or Mancini, it is likely that Tellez will continue to see regular at bats.

  14. Absolutely no one is saying the offense is just fine. What posters are disagreeing with is the assertion that the offense is a lost-cause dumpster fire, and that the team has no hope of doing anything in the playoffs. Those are two very different ideas.

  16. Probably Laureano. More upside. Taylor is having a good year, but has never really done a whole lot in his career otherwise.
  17. All I'd like is an explanation, or at least an acknowledgement that it does, in fact, bother other posters.
  18. I'm here for the crazy year that Tyler Davis is about to put up. I'll say 55 catches for 600 yards and 8 TDs LOL
  19. Very good point. I guess I tend to sometimes conveniently forget some of the weirdness that 2020 brought.
  20. What is Shook's deal in your guys' opinion? Is this simply a case of an advanced college arm dominating younger and less experienced competition, or is it possible the Brewers unearthed an undrafted FA gem? What does he throw, and is anything overpowering?
  21. I don't know if teams draft for schematic fits as much as they simply have athletic and size thresholds for what they typically look for in particular positions. The Packers, for example, like their perimeter WRs to be at least 6'2" and 200 pounds. Toure comes close, but is a bit undersized. Watson and Doubs fit that profile, though. They don't like their O-linemen to be overly tall or heavy. Ron Wolf's CB size requirements after whiffing on Terrell Buckley were well known, and the Packers have rarely gone away from that since, except on Jaire. Yeah, the size and athletic thresholds do tie into the scheme, but I have never thought that the Packers drafted 100% based on fitting players into their scheme. Players can learn different schemes, but you cannot create athletic ability or make a player grow out of thin air.
  22. Three wideouts, all with a good chance to make the final roster. All bring a varied skill set, but check most of the boxes the Packers look for in their perimeter wideouts.
  23. WRs Justyn Ross and Kevin Austin Jr. are still sitting out there. Can't believe both have lasted this long. Ross's talent level and measureables aren't very far removed from someone like Drake London, and Austin has good size and legit deep speed. If the Packers want to grab one and add more competition at that position, I would think either would stand a solid shot at making thhe team.
  24. Rasheed Walker. Seems like a really nice value pick at this point in the draft.
