  1. NM on Collins. 6 years/$84 million to the Redskins. I'm sure that deal will age well.
  2. Can never have enough starting pitching. So many people are writing off Anderson and Davies after down years last year. Anderson put up arguably ace-type numbers in 2017, though, and Davies was a strong #2-3 starter. If those two can approach that production again, the starting staff is in a very good place. Even last year Anderson was pretty darn solid. Either people are way too spoiled about having some solid younger guys or they are way to fixated on a single stat (HRs). Bottom line Chase Anderson limits baserunners and many of the HRs are fairly harmless. What exactly is the difference between Davies letting guys round the bases with hits ( >9.0 H9 every year of his career) and Anderson giving up dingers? Actually I would argue Anderson giving up homers is somewhat beneficial considering giving up a run on one batter is way better than wasting pitches/energy on 2-3 batters. If Chase Anderson isn't one of our Top 5 pitchers when it is all said and done this year I would be really surprised and assume we acquired someone major at the deadline. Pretty solid backend guy at worst in my opinion. I'd bet on someone disappointing this year and being worse than Anderson. Not sure on Davies though...feels like he is in the same boat, backend guy. Not sure when he was ever like a #2 or #3 starter. I know pitcher wins are not the be-all/end-all, but 17 wins and a 3.90 ERA in 2017 is more than solid. I'd take that from my #2-3 starter any year.
  3. If he is truly over his concussion issues, maybe. He isn't especially old.
  4. No inside knowledge, but I get the feeling that the Packers are about to throw a lot of money at Landon Collins, who I am a fan of. I think they'll attempt to sign Za'Darius Smith too ... who I'm not a huge fan of.

  6. I agree with you on Sanchez. His arm is absolutely electric. He may need for seasoning, but he's got late-inning power relief arm written all over him. Another one of those guys who has seemingly come out of nowhere and looks like he's going to make a major impact.
  7. Yeah sure if you want to trade for someone not named Brown. It is going to take the 30th pick plus next years first to get Brown. The Packers are not going to get him by offering garbage picks. Yikes It's one thing to be wrong. Completely something else to be condescending while doing it.
  8. I think they were always going to sign someone to play 2B this season, whether it was Moose or someone like Marwin Gonzalez. I'm sure they discussed the plan with Moose last season and during the offseason. In fact, Counsell was quoted saying that he talked to Moose several times this offseason, weeks before he signed his deal. I get the feeling the Brewers had their deal with Moose in place all the way back in November/December, but told him to test the market to see if a long-term deal was there. It didn't materialize, so he came back. This is an opportunity for Moose to hit at a great hitter's park that is very friendly to left-handed power hitters, along with play a new position. If he, say, hits .260 with 30-35 HRs and 100 RBIs, he'll be hitting the free agent market again next year as a 30-year-old capable of putting up better numbers than any of the 7-8 or so 2B types that hit the market this year. That'll get him paid.
  9. Always have to be careful doling money out to relievers, as they are so inconsistent. That said, Kimbrel has been one of the more consistent ones his whole career. If the money is right, it's hard not to get excited about the idea of stacking top-end pitching talent. It would definitely mitigate the fact that they went another offseason without making a big upgrade to the rotation.
  10. And a reworked contract that makes him the highest paid receiver in the league by far. Brown demanded his contract be reworked by whoever traded for him, and the Packers were only interested if he continued under his current deal. That made it fall apart.
  11. They could very well pitch him in the opening game and have him on a 60-pitch limit too. I mean, would that really surprise anyone knowing how this team uses pitchers?
  12. Nelson making his 2019 Cactus league debut Monday, per McCalvy This makes me happy.
  13. The only way carrying a third catcher makes sense is if it is someone like Evan Gattis, who is really only a catcher in theory.
  14. Im trying to find it, but I read yesterday that he was clocked at 83/84 on those 3 pitches. Yikes. Tightness/weakness in the shoulder will definitely do that. Hopefully its minor, but you never know. Strange that the issue wasn't caught in pen sessions if its a lingering thing.
  15. You know what's going to happen. Belicheck is going to ride in with a last-minute offer of #32, and the Steelers are going to feel backed into a corner and take it. That is nauseating. But he just operates at a different level than the rest of these guys. I want to believe my buddy saying that the Packers are still in, but there's a lot of noise now saying they aren't. So who knows?
  16. LOL so much noise with this right now. Conflicting reports that the Packers are or were in, and weren't/never were. They definitely have been engaged with the Steelers. Brown nixed a trade to Buffalo last night because he doesn't want to go to the Bills. Hard to blame him. They suck. He wants the Packers (even though the Packers kinda suck right now too) and the Packers want him. It's a matter of the Steelers being the 3rd party.
  17. I'm telling everyone here... he's gonna be REAL good for the Crew. I've had him as my top position prospect in the Top 25 votes since Mid-2017. He's probably staying there this season as well. He's still gotta make better contact. He's never going to be a ML regular with his skillset and measurables hitting .230.
  18. Wow, Troy Stokes has some serious power for a little dude. No doubter to push 3 across in the 7th
  19. Perhaps. I suppose there is a chance he could be squeezed through the DFA process, but it really seems to me that quality catching depth is at an all-time low league-wide. But if Kratz were to be DFA'd and claimed, I wouldn't view it as a big loss. Nottingham can easily come up if there is an injury, and Tuffy Gosewisch can fill that veteran catcher/AAA mentor/emergency MLB role.
  20. Yes because he would decline and shop around elsewhere, obviously. Could always then sign him to a split contract. I can't imagine there is any way he wouldn't be able to catch on as a reserve somewhere on a ML deal. Just finding a guy who can give you a professional AB and not embarrass himself defensively would be an improvement for a lot of teams in that spot.
  21. I could potentially see a lot of value in both, and I love solid starters, but with the way the Brewers use their pitchers, I think they'd probably value Kimbrel more. I mean, the fact that the pen was a major strength last year surely didn't stop them from trading for Soria in an effort to create a super pen. That move basically worked, too.
  22. Agreed. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Keuchel and Kimbrel are sitting on multiple lucrative contract offers. It wouldn't surprise me if guys like Gio, James Shields, Adam Jones and Maldonado also have solid MLB offers. This idea of holding out late into Spring Training for every last dollar, especially for a pitcher, is pretty foolish in my opinion.
  23. Agree 100%. It looks like it's going to be an absolute dogfight on paper. The Brewers are no longer going to sneak up on anyone, either. The team is legit, and the rest of the NL knows it. I doubt the Cardinals and Reds would have made all the moves they did in the offseason if the Cubs would have strolled their way to an NL Central crown last year. Having both the Cubs and Brewers as legit title contenders caused them to make an attempt to step up their games. I guess it might be overly optimistic to call the Brewers the clear favorites. I think they are the favorites, but I guess all call them the murky favorites.
  24. Nailed it. Sorry, meant for that to be blue. Fixed.
  25. I think Houser is going to have a tough time making the club off the bat due to that extra option year he was granted, but that arm is going to eventually play. High 90s with good movement. He brings a similar repertoire to what Nelson and Woodruff bring. Both of those guys have struggled with control and "polish" at times earlier in their careers, and Houser is quite the same. I'm really excited to see him get his shot, whether as a starter or as a reliever.
