  1. I do not view the Giants as a short- or long-term threat to the Brewers' window, so Harper landing with them to me is an ideal scenario as a Brewer fan. I think this is much better than him landing with the Dodgers or Phillies. However, if the Brewers have any interest in Keuchel, the best shot of landing him may be for Harper to land with the Phillies, as it might be tough for them to sign both Harper and Keuchel to big money deals. I think if Harper goes to the Giants or Dodgers, the Phillies will be all over Keuchel. It does kind of bother me that National League teams are spending boatloads of FA money, while American League teams sit on their hands, seemingly content with being mediocre.
  2. Maybe ... but I would argue a guy like Wilkerson with a tenuous at best hold on a 40-man roster spot will need to perform in Spring Training games to keep it. A guy like Anderson is going to have a lot more leeway because he has a track record of success.
  3. Pitching his way to DFA land, that's for sure.
  4. I think Dalton Risner is going to be a stud RT for a long time. Obviously Bosa would be a perfect fit, but a lot of crazy stuff would need to happen for the Packers to have that opportunity.
  5. Shocked? Why? He was doubtful to ever start at Wisconsin again. He made no improvement starting multiple years. I am not sure Mertz would have started, but if not I am sure Coan would get the nod. Not need another year of the same thing that didn't get you very far as is. Can't say I'm shocked, but it is unexpected. I expected him to play out the string. Will be interesting to see if they give Mertz a fair shake, or hand Coan the job.
  6. Junior Guerra is going to be one heck of a reliever for this team, health-willing.
  7. The guy has all the tools to be an extremely successful, exciting major league player. I'm stoked to follow him this year. I predict that he'll either make an impact at the major league level this season, or will be involved in a trade for someone at a different position who will.
  8. This is unexpected: Can't say I'm displeased, though. Time to sink or swim with the future.
  9. Francisco Mejia looks way too tiny to be a full-time MLB catcher.
  10. I predict he'll have a 2.7 ERA by June ... for the Cardinals.
  11. By the time he got his head turned around it was already over the fence. Hedges just hit one that hasn't landed yet too. I was really hopeful that Anderson would figure out his HR issues, but early returns are not looking too promising.
  12. Davies looking strong out of the gate. Wouldn't it be something if we somehow got the 2017 versions of Davies and Anderson to go with Chacin, a rehabbed Nelson and the young guns?
  13. Well, just looking at the list of projected bad teams' veteran starters: Orioles: Dylan Bundy, Alex Cobb, Andrew Cashner Marlins: Jose Urena, Dan Straily Tigers: Michael Fulmer, Jordan Zimmermann, Tyson Ross, Matt Moore White Sox: Carlos Rodon, Ivan Nova, Ervin Santana Royals: Danny Duffy, Ian Kennedy Mariners: Felix Hernandez, Mike Leake Rangers: Lance Lynn, Mike Minor, Shelby Miller, Drew Smyly, Edinson Volquez Giants: MadBum, Jeff Samardzija, Derek Holland, Drew Pomeranz Blue Jays: Stroman, Clayton Richard, Aaron Sanchez Diamondbacks: Greinke, Robby Ray, Zach Godley Now obviously some of these guys are going to suck, and some of these teams may be better than expected. But of all those guys, the ones that intrigue me would be Cobb, Urena, Fulmer, Zimmermann, Rodon, Pomeranz, Sanchez and Robby Ray. King Felix would be fun from a fan perspective, but who knows if he has anything left in the tank?
  14. Wow, nothing like how it was described yesterday. Kind of strange that wouldn't have been mentioned. Only thing I can figure is that baseball fans have been conditioned into thinking that forearm strain = surefire Tommy John surgery. Still, hopefully this ends of reeking of much ado about nothing.
  15. Now why in the heck couldn't Stearns just say that yesterday? Doom and gloom could have been avoided.
  16. A huge part of McVay's (LaFleur's) style of offense is a WR with next-level field awareness who excels at creating separation and finding holes in the opposing defense. While Adams could theoretically function in that sort of role, he is more of a all-around receiver who excels on the outside. That offense loves guys who are dangerous in space, catching WR screens and short slants. Brown, in my estimation, is a prototypical fit for that role. I would love to see what kind of crazy stuff this new offensive staff could draw up with Adams and Brown, along with burners like MVS and St. Brown at their disposal. Having a talent like Brown opposite Adams would make the Packers arguably the most dangerous offense in the league. That said, there are obvious huge risks, on top of the cost of giving up a high draft pick and paying Brown a high salary. There is also the question of whether he would mesh with Rodgers personally. But the fit scheme-wise is nearly perfect in my estimation.
  17. Arbitrary prospect ranking lists aside, Ray proved last year that he is the real deal. I hope/think that he's going to be a stud in San Antonio this year, and likely be getting MLB time by mid season, beating Hiura to the punch. He is the type of guy that can make a big splash early on in his career with quick wrists and quick-twitch type muscle response. Unfortunately that is also the type of play that often battles various injuries that can sap those gifts. That said, I think this is the year he establishes himself as a big-time, highly recognized prospect. Don't sell Troy Stokes short. He's probably likely to be a very good asset as well. He's shown his power spike was real, he has speed, and OBP skills, too. I like Stokes too, but if he can't get that average up, he's going to end up being a blip on the radar. A .233 average isn't going to cut it for a player with his skillset and measurables.
  18. I agree with this. I would absolutely love to see Nelson come back and be effective, but this team was one game from the World Series employing a rotation without Nelson, and other than losing Miley (and Gio I guess) they are returning largely the same staff, but with young guys like Woodruff, Burnes and Peralta primed to take a step. If you would have told me last March that Davies would be hurt for a big portion of the year, Anderson would give up 30 bombs and Nelson wouldn't throw a pitch in 2018, I would have predicted maybe 70 wins. Those guys were easily #1-3 on the upstart 2017 team. Getting Nelson back would be terrific, but even if it doesn't happen, this team is still a World Series contender.
  19. "Arm fatigue" per Haudricourt. I suppose that can mean pretty much mean anything.
  20. Of course they shouldn't give him away. But he's also a very highly paid skill position player who will be 31 years old this year. Those types of guys don't get a huge haul, no matter what there name is.
  21. Relationship is beyond fractured. Brown has already met with Rooney and they have both alluded to the idea that the relationship is over.
  22. That's way too much, and I want Brown. #30 is a fair offer. They should be thrilled to get a 1st in return given the lack of leverage they have and Brown's demands for more guarantees if traded. I don't see anyone topping that. If the Cardinals do, so be it. I don't see it. They're further than Antonio Brown away from contention. Agreed. I could see #30 and next year's #1 for Beckham, but there's no way anyone is paying that amount for a highly paid receiver going into his age 31 year. The Steelers have little leverage too, as they are pretty much forced to deal him, and he's only going to want to go to a contender. Pretty limited options there. Also, since when would the #44 pick in the NFL draft be a garbage pick? That's ludicrous!
  23. Kris Bryant isn't exactly Sogard at the plate, either.
  24. 25. No kidding! It's the first Spring Training game of the season. Anderson is actually my pick to bounce back and have a very good season this year. I think he's got a chip on his shoulder after being left out of the playoffs last year, and he's a super-competitive guy anyway. I think he's going to surprise most everyone this year and look a lot like that near ace-type that he was in 2017. If you look at his numbers, other than the propensity to give up gopher balls (which admittedly is a bad thing), his numbers were very good if not great last year. If he has figured out what caused the decrease in velocity last year, he could be very good again.
