  1. The legal stuff withstanding, the guy has always been a pretty major jerk. There's no chance the Brewers bring in a potential cancer like that. There aren't enough outspoken vet types in the clubhouse to counteract the potential negatives, as we saw from the Hader trade fallout.
  2. I a 100% convinced that the Vikes will lose their first playoff game, whenever it is.
  3. I don't think he has a role on the team. I doubt he makes it to Spring Training as a Brewer.
  4. I don't know that there are "MA apologists" here so much as there are fans who understand the reality of the situation. MA has a long enough track record that if you are expecting him to go on a free agent spending spree and jack payroll up to $200 million, you may as well, once again, be yelling at a cloud.
  5. Good point. It could very well come down to doing a respected veteran a solid and dealing him to a team that would feature him, rather than making him languish on the bench as a utility guy on a super team.
  6. I'm not really ok with it. But its reality. And it isn't changing as long as the current economic structure of MLB is in place.
  7. I don't know if I necessarily agree with that. It would seem that there are much better investments a billionaire could make than buying a professional sports franchise if their only goal is making more money.
  8. Being upset at the Brewers for not spending like the big markets. It's akin to yelling at a cloud.
  9. The philosophy isn't gonna get you to the promised land as a Brewer fan.
  10. I'm never, ever a fan of teams who go out and buy a championship.
  11. We've seen Phillies fans and their ownership brag about the "stupid money" they've spent in free agency. I guess that is finally starting to pay off a bit, but it's taken a while.
  12. No, not at all.
  13. That actually makes a lot of sense. Veteran switch hitter with positional versatility and is already familiar with the team. He seemingly left a good impression in his time here. I can't imagine he'd cost a ton in a trade, either, as the Mets have to be desperate to shed some payroll.
  14. Is there a mandate?
  15. At this point, looking at the Mets payroll, it's very difficult to not want them to fall flat on their face.
  16. I think the Vikings' year is going to be spoiled by whoever they end up facing in their first playoff game. Their record is a lot of smoke and mirrors. They remind me very much of the 2019 Packers, but with a crappier QB.
  17. Packers are releasing Sammy Watkins. Signing him was a decent flyer, but he just couldn't stay healthy, and by the time he was finally healthy, he'd been passed up on the depth chart by younger players. It also appeared that he had lost at least a step. Oh well ... win some, lose some.
  18. This deal makes the William Contreras acquisition look like even more of a masterstroke. Narvaez had a terrific 2021 season after a poor 2020, and was basically league average last year. He was one of Stearns' better, if not underrated acquisitions, IMO. Taking a look around the league, finding a catcher who can provide even a halfway decent bat who isn't a dumpster fire defensively is increasingly rare. I think it's safe to say that while Omar Narvaez was never the total solution for the Brewers, he was far from a problem. I appreciate his time as a Brewer.
  19. Yes. That is literally what I said in my initial post. Which is also why I said if it were my decision, he would have been back.
  20. Brewers had a $3 million team option on Boxberger for 2023. They declined it.
  21. With what the Brewers paid him on his buyout, he's making more than he would have had the Brewers picked up his option. Good for him. Box isn't a world-beater, but he's been pretty consistently good as a Brewer, and if I were making the call, he would have been back. Right now there is some potential, but a lot of unknowns in that pen.
  22. Back to Miller .... pretty cool story to see a local kid have a chance to make a mark with the Brewers. Miller was once a pretty well thought-of prospect as well. He'll be an interesting story to watch in Spring Training.
