  1. I kinda forgot Albers was still around. It's been a long time since he's seen the mound.
  2. Yeah, he's playing well for the Rays. Good for him, glad that he's somewhere that he can get some playing time. Yeah, seemed like a good dude. Just bad timing to get a real chance here. I wonder what Brad Miller is up to?
  3. I remember a few arguments where fans said that the Cardinals did better trading for Osuna than the Brewers did for Yelich. Those sure are funny in hindsight now.
  4. That's pretty much what happens when you sign an MVP type to a long-term deal. Father Time is undefeated. I keep hoping/waited for one of his patented hot streaks. Who knows, maybe it'll be in the NLDS?
  5. Wade Miley with another nice start tonight, although he's put on a lot of baserunners. I am officially a Wade Miley convert. Guy has been money this year. Would have been interesting to see what he could have done had he not battled injury for a big chunk of the year.
  6. I agree with you on this point. But good luck trying to find a manager that doesn't make multiple perceived boneheaded moves every week. Sometimes moves work, sometimes they don't. That's what I personally love (and hate) about baseball. I have no issues with calling out a manager on those boneheaded moves. That's part of being a fan too.
  7. Oh, so the manager can win games for your team but he can't lose them? Got it... Never said that. Of course the manager can make bad decisions that can lead to losses. That is a huge assumption jump from what I said. But taken as a whole, I think he's done a commendable job with what he's been given.
  8. This team is currently sitting at 20 games over .500. With a starting rotation cobbled together with has-beens, young'ins and never was'es. With a lineup that approaches theoretical consistency on its best day. With multiple guys who played great last year regressing in a major way. With last year's ace (Nelson) down for the whole year, last year's #2 (Davies) missing a huge chunk of the year, and pitching poorly when he was healthy, and last year's #3 (Anderson) pitching inconsistently for a large chunk of the year. With last year's All-Star closer imploding and getting optioned to the minors. With all that, they are 20 games over .500, and 2.5 games out of 1st with 12 to play. Yeah, Counsell has done a good job. Sometimes all it takes is a little perspective.
  9. It may work, or it may not. But this type of move is why the Pats are in the Super Bowl or contending for it almost every year. Disappointing that a team like the Packers hasn't figured out that in this league of parity, the teams that take chances are the teams that win.
  10. The only fault I can see is not batting Cain leadoff. This team has been at its best with Cain in the leadoff spot, yet they keep pulling him out of it. I don't get it. Just lead the man and his high OBP well enough alone.
  11. I'm looking forward to all the games. Yesterday's game result kinda sucked, but if I wasn't looking forward to watching, I wouldn't be a fan.
  12. I know WR wasn't a "need" for the Packers, but if this works out for the Pats, consider it another opportunity lost for the Brian Gutekunst era. Gordon has otherworldly talent, and if his head is on straight, would have made the Packers offense all that much more formidable. I know there is a big "if" there, but a 5th rounder isn't a huge price.
  13. The "Lambeau Mystique" home field advantage hasn't been around for years. Very few teams have any sort of home field advantage anymore. The Packers played well enough to win yesterday at least until midway through the 4th quarter, and had several chances to put the Vikings away in regulation. They didn't. Instead, they tied. I see these teams as very evenly matched. The Vikings are good on paper. The Vikings are always good on paper.
  14. Cole Madison says "Hold my beer!"
  15. OL is also arguably the most important position group. The Packers' crappy pass rush and the inability to finish was all that was standing in the way of about 7-8 sacks yesterday. There were guys in Cousins' lap all game. I give him credit for standing tall in the pocket and delivering strikes in the face of a lot of pressure.
  16. Its funny that the Vikings apparently have no weaknesses, yet the Packers have them all over, when you take yesterday's game and the final score into account. The NFL wanted parity, and they have it. Five bad teams and 27 average ones.
  17. I am surprised you think this. What was it about that tackle that makes it a penalty? He didn't lift him in the air and when he came down he came down off to the side and rolled off immediately. I am curious what you see differently. You are correct on all counts. Had there been no call, I would be praising Matthews for a great play. However, if I’m being completely objective, I thought he was a millisecond late. The ball was already out. At full speed, I don’t think think the defender can stop (but that’s the rule as it stands). The pressure from Matthews hurried Cousins' throw, which caused the interception. It was a perfect textbook tackle, one that any youth coach would show his players. Matthews was making contact as the ball came out of Cousins' hand. There was literally nothing he could have done better on that play. Also, the referee said the penalty was called because he interpreted it as Matthews lifting Cousins, which just wasn't the case. There was nothing about it being a late hit. It was just a bad call ... as was the late hit on Kendricks earlier in the game. Refs shouldn't be deciding the outcome of games.
  18. The Brewers have been solid at the AAA level for several years, and look to have a prospect-laiden group at that level next year. I for the life of me cannot understand why they aren't more attractive to AAA teams. Isn't the Sounds ownership group the ones making the move to San Antonio? I wonder if they perhaps put the cart before the horse in severing ties with the Brewers thinking they had another squad lined up? To me San Antonio makes sense for the Rangers. I'd like to see the Brewers in Nashville again, but that doesn't sound like its going to happen. Oh well, Fresno will at least be better than Colorado Springs. Just just sucks being the last kid picked for the kickball game every time.
  19. It isn't likely. But I would say it is also premature to write it off as well. Things will be a lot more clear by Friday I think. If the Cubs go to Arizona and take care of business, they will likely take the Central. But the Cubs are not exactly tearing it up, either.
  20. If the Brewers want any shot at the division, we've pretty much reached "must-win" territory, especially with this Reds series and the Tigers to finish things off. The Cardinals and Pirates series worry me. A Brewers sweep against the Reds would all but cement a Wild Card spot, as the math starts to work against the Cardinals and Dodgers/Rockies to overtake them.
  21. - St. Louis @ Atlanta - A toss-up series. If the Braves sweep, the Cardinals could be pretty much done. If the Cardinals sweep, they are right back in the thick of the Wild Card chase. The only good thing for the Brewers in that scenario is it damages the Braves overall record, which could come into play with playoff seeding should the Brewers overtake the Cubs for the division. I think I'm pulling for the Braves, though. I just want to see the Cardinals go away. - Chicago @ Arizona - This one is pretty obvious. Go DBacks! Arizona is still mathematically alive, and the Cubs are scuffling, so this series could go either way. - Colorado @ LA - It is good for the Brewers for these teams to beat on each other. A sweep either way, though, could give a big advantage to one of these teams, while leave the other scuffling in the Wild Card hunt. I guess I'm pulling for the Dodgers, as I'd rather see the Rockies in a Wild Card game as a Brewer fan. The MLB schedule makers couldn't have done a better job with having potential playoff teams square off against each other in these last couple weeks. The Cubs, for instance, have a really rough schedule to end the year, with Arizona, the rivalry series with the White Sox, a 4-gamer against the plucky Pirates, and a three-gamer against the Cardinals, when the Cards may need to win all 3 to get in. I love it!
  22. - Nationals beat the Braves, which is good for the Brewers overall-record wise. - Houston beat the DBacks, which all but eliminates the DBacks from Wild Card contention. They are still mathematically alive, though, so hopefully they play their hearts out against the Cubs this week. - Reds beat the Cubs, so the Brewers don't lose ground in the division race. Cubs are really scuffling on offense, and their cobbled together rotation and pen is magically keeping them in games. Will it last? - Rockies beat the Giants after dropping the first two in the series. Rockies and Dodgers are neck-and-neck for that division. - The Cardinals finally managed to take one from the Dodgers after dropping the first three games of the series. The Brewers need to play well this week to keep their head above the Rockies/Dodgers/Cardinals Wild Card jumble.
  23. If they want to get to 95 wins, which I think is what it may take to get the division, they need to go 10-2 in their remaining 12 games. Going 6-6 gives them 91 wins, which will likely put them in one of the wild card spots, but also gives hope to the Cardinals if they get hot. Going 8-4 (winning every series 2-1) will give them 93 wins, which may take the division, if the Cubs finish out poorly. They are at the point that if they want the division, they need to sweep the Reds, and play much better against the Pirates next weekend. If they can go 5-1 this week, they'll be in the thick of things.
  24. You just described roughly 90 percent of the teams in the NFL. We are pretty much two weeks in, and the best teams in the NFL look like either the Bucs, Chiefs or Rams (and that isn't going to last). A few others look tough, but most are mediocre. The NFL has wanted parity, and they get it. 25 equal teams with a few crappy ones at the bottom.
