  1. I remember reading the story in the paper, but 100% sure it wasn't Don Davey. Don Davey graduated in 1989 or 90. Davey was also a defensive end, and a 3rd round pick by the Packers in 1991. You are thinking of Pat Daley.
  2. This is seemingly out of left field, but ok. Maybe he thinks Wily is still on the team? Wily is actually putting up nice numbers out of KC's pen this season. Perhaps he is just predicting the Brewers will trade for Wily after Sept. 1, making Wily ineligible for the playoff roster. Gotta be it!
  3. It shouldn't take anything more than a roster filler-type marginal prospect. Someone like Derby maybe. It would be nice to be able to clear another guy who may stand a chance of being taken in the Rule 5. I hope so. He isn't having a great year. Yes, he probably has a higher ceiling than anything we have just due to his stuff, but not sure he is much of an improvement over what we currently have. Because we are a couple minor injuries away from Aaron Wilkerson making meaningful playoff race starts.
  4. Looks like velocity has been been pretty consistent at 95-96 lately.
  5. That would be my guess. Guerra has been solid in relief in the past, and having a guy who's stretched out in the pen would be a good thing.
  6. and a Zima to be named later LOL I imagine it'll be for a roster-filler type minor leaguer. High end would be a Bubba Derby type.

  8. The Cubs seemingly have a horseshoe up their "you know what" when it comes to moves like this. Hamels looked done. DONE. Now he is suddenly Cy Young. It is pretty infuriating. I keep telling myself that luck will eventually run out ... hoping ... hoping
  9. Just imagine how good this team would be if nearly every guy who had a career year in 2017 didn't regress terribly? Shaw is about the only one, and even he was cold for long stretches this year. Davies and Anderson in the rotation, not to mention Nelson missing all year. Knebel went from All Star to punching bag. Arcia ... Santana. At least Pina is starting to hit, but he was bad for much of the season. This team would be on pace for 100 wins had these guys played up to the level they did last year, and combined with the new guys who are playing well.
  10. I love the optimism thread, if only as an escape from the sourness. I remember at some point there being a "Pessimism Thread". Perhaps that might be a chance for the Debbie Downers to still get the negative things off their chest, without dragging down every other thread. To be fair, I don't think this sort of statement is any more productive than most of the things that are being discussed. It can be, and often is, viewed as passive aggressive snark. I agree that things have gone too far and I certainly do not absolve myself of my role in that escalation but let's not pretend it doesn't rub both ways. You're right. That was perhaps a non-fair generalization. Sorry if you took it as an insult. I still think a Vent Thread might not be a bad thing. Although I could see it running out of control, too.
  11. Having a couple guys in the pen able to go 3-4 innings wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Especially with the short starts.
  12. And he's a Cub. We're talking about potential solutions, here. Also, Hamels was really, really bad for the Rangers. Hindsight is 20/20 though, I guess.
  13. Spot on. He's a proven MLB starter when healthy. I'd be willing to give him a chance to prove that in the coming weeks.
  14. That is four hitters...nice, but not a powerhouse core. Heck that core isn't even helping their offense be great right now. They just went and got another hitter because they have struggled offensively. Darvish just ended a terrible year with an injury, Lester is getting really old, Hendricks doesn't appear to be super special anymore, Jose Quintana doesn't seem to be the ace the were hoping for...quite far from it. Their rotation is an ticking time bomb, ready to blow up. Next year it will technically be led by 35 year old Jon Lester. I am waiting for a 2018 Nationals type disappointment in the next few years. The Cubs have had a disaster season with injuries and missed Bryant for most of the year. Yet they are 3rd in runs scored and 8 out of being the top scoring team in the National League, so yes. I guess that core does make them a power house. Their pitching is **** and they have the best record in the NL. There is no sense pretending like a recent streak is the real story of the Cubs offense. Most of us are realistic, but this is a board of Brewer fans, so showing up here as a Cub fan to defend them every time someone here bashes the Cubs is probably fighting a losing battle. I give you credit for not resorting to trollish behavior, though.

  16. This is a huge issue - especially in the IGTs. There is no need for people to flood the thread with every complaint and every negative thought that they have. I mean, I'm seeing more and more people post negative stuff before it even happens - then are embolden when one of the ten stupid comments becomes reality. This kind of thing is an issue. And we are asking for people to dial it back. We realize that the IGTs are a place to vent a bit - but when the vast majority of the thread is that kind of stuff, it makes it worthless. And to top it off, that kind of behavior tends to spill over into other threads. To domino off that, I've found that the demonstrably negative posters are also some of the most combative if they are "called" on that negativity. I personally am guilty of escalating arguments with some of these posters, and that's on me. Because instead of backing down on the negativity, they typically ramp it up. It's made the IGTs almost unbearable at times. All us us have vented something at some point. But the constant "sky is falling" or "same old Brewers" mentality lately around here has gotten quite thick. I do appreciate a few of our more pessimistic (or realist) posters, as they have often caused me to look at things from a different perspective. But constantly reading those negative thoughts definitely takes away from the overall enjoyment I get from reading this board. I'm very glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this trend, and thank you for looking to change the culture a bit.
  17. And his last two starts prior were trash and 3/4 were trash. So he thinks he is rounding into form after one start that he probably didn't watch? Was he rounding into form on the 6th too? A quick (quick) glance and it appears he faced a lot of not so great AA hitters last night. Just jumping the gun a bit there in my opinion. A blind squirrel will find a nut occasionally. So we shouldn't be optimistic about a guy who had a great season last year perhaps giving the rotation a boost over the final month? Davies has a season and a half of being a very good starting pitcher on his resume. Yeah, the results have not been there this year, but in my opinion, completely writing him off as a lost cause in 2018 is jumping the gun as well.
  18. I think you are putting words into a lot of posters' mouths here. No one is saying that the 2017 version of Zach Davies is undoubtedly back. What I personally am advocating for, though, is giving a guy that was pretty terrific last year a couple starts at the MLB level to see if he could be a rotation asset down the stretch. But you go into it cautiously. You have the pen ready to roll, and if Davies starts getting smacked around, you pull him, and shut him down for the year. No I am not. Briggs said "as evidence by his Biloxi start" Briggs said "As evidenced by his fine outing last night for Biloxi, it appears he's rounding into form." In my mind "rounding into form" means he's getting there, and getting him up to MLB is the next step. Perhaps you interpreted it differently than I did.
  19. I don't want to start contention, but part of me in the back of my mind wonders if Josh Hader may be stretched out as a starter at some point as well. If they are following the "Chris Sale Schedule", this would be the offseason to do it. Love having him in the pen, but the idea of having a young, dominant lefty in he rotation for the next several years is certainly intriguing.

  21. I don't disagree with any of this. I wholeheartedly agree that Woodruff has more upside than Davies. His stuff is absolutely filthy. ThisIsMyCrew was indicating, at least to me, that Woodruff has upside while Davies doesn't. That's what I think is categorically incorrect. If The 2017 version of Davies is his ceiling, I'd take that as the #3 in my rotation any day. But it's important to remember that Davies is only 25 as well, and hasn't even reached his theoretical peak yet. In my mind, consistency can mean upside as well.
  22. Zach Davies is exactly 3 days older than Brandon Woodruff. I don't see how Woodruff has upside and Davies doesn't. Plus Davies has had a lot more MLB success than Woodruff. For the record, I like them both, and I believe both have a future in the Brewers' rotation.
  23. This post, given your forum name, is ironically ironic.
  24. There is no way Smith would make it past the Dodgers or the Rockies. Both need major bullpen help.
