  1. Maybe ... losing good clubhouse "glue" guys like Suter, Sogard and Phillips could play a part. Arcia seems to be a fun guy, and his going down may have played a part. I think the best cure, though, would be for the offense to finally get going for a stretch longer than a game or two.
  2. Huh? Um, they sure looked like they were having fun those first two against LA.
  3. Could be worse. Imagine if Yelich and Cain were never acquired, and those spots were being filled by Phillips and Broxton.
  4. Supak locked up in a great pitchers' duel against Mahoney at AA. Is this Supak break-out legit? He certainly looks the part of a durable mid-rotation starter, and he's been great for the last month. He's quickly climbing the pitching prospect ladder.
  5. Yeah, looks like he's in pain every time he throws his splitter. Causes a lot of stress on the forearm. Probably why he hasn't thrown it as often lately. Also probably why he hasn't been as effective lately, unfortunately.
  6. Our first showing of the "Defense Be Damned" Bar League Softball line-up. Sweet!
  7. I know! does anyone else feel like Schoop is rickie weeks pt 2? If Schoop turns out to be the 2010-11 version of Rickie, I don't think anyone would be complaining.
  8. I was excited by the moves, but I too wish they would have been a little more conventional. Sometimes "outside the box" is outside the box for a reason. The new agey stuff has worked for the most part, but baseball is still baseball.
  9. Was it ever confirmed that was even on the table? All I remember was one idiot LA reporter talking about that. Hindsight is 20/20. Kemp was very expensive garbage before his renaissance this year.
  10. Of course Pina is just part of the issue. Having him lumped in with Arcia and whoever has been playing 2B has created a black hole in the 6-9 spots of the lineup. Hard to have any sort of sustained offense when you have four guys in a row who can't hit. That was the big reason for going out and getting more offense.
  11. The irony of the biggest Manny Pina fan on the board not willing to cut Schoop slack on his 2nd day as a Brewer ... newsflash - Manny Pina has been a huge part of the problem, and why they felt it necessary to trade for players like Schoop and Moose. Niether of which catch. They got guys who can hit because Pina hasn't this year.
  12. Pina has been a huge part of the problem so they went out and got a 2nd and 3rd baseman forcing players in the infield to play out of position? They got offense because Pina is one of several regulars that have regressed with the bat. But you knew exactly what I was saying, and are just being you.
  13. The irony of the biggest Manny Pina fan on the board not willing to cut Schoop slack on his 2nd day as a Brewer ... newsflash - Manny Pina has been a huge part of the problem, and why they felt it necessary to trade for players like Schoop and Moose.
  14. Not necessarily. San Diego and Atlanta have a ton of lower level minor leaguers that are highly ranked that they don't have to worry about losing for awhile. I know the Yankees are in a very similar situation to the Brewers regarding Rule 5 protection, and they have probably been even more proactive in moving some of those guys.
  15. Woodruff is a better option for certain. I think it will be valuable for his development to get some more MLB starts under his belt. Since he wasn't traded, I think this means that we likely sink or swim with Woodruff getting some August and September starts in the midst of a pennant race. We also need the rest of the current rotation to stay healthy, IMO. Very risky but it's a gamble Stearns decided to take. I agree. I was hoping they'd make a deal for either Archer or Gausman, but since that didn't happen, I'd rather they give Woodruff a fair shake. His stuff and velocity might be the best of any starter in the organization. Of all the potential waiver guys out there, the only one that interests me at all is Sonny Gray, as he's young enough to still make a positive impact. I doubt he'd come close to making it to the Brewers via waivers, though.
  16. They got rid of Kintzler too. Must have some pretty good studs in the minors they were bringing up? Thought I read yesterday that they were blaming Kintzler for leaking the clubhouse discord issues to the media.
  17. For Sure Protect: Ponce Supak Stokes Maybe: Derby Torres-Costa McDowell Kirby D. Williams Herrera This list has gotten a lot more manageable lately. I think Supak and Stokes are taken for sure if left unprotected, and Ponce wouldn't surprise me, as he profiles as an eventual durable mid-rotation innings eater. Derby isn't special, but he has youth on his side, and has been holding his own at AAA. Torres-Costa could be easily kept as a LOOGY. McDowell is such a terrific defender (maybe the best defensive C in the minors) that anything he adds with the bat may be gravy. I know Kirby hasn't done much, but it would be horrible to lose that arm after he finally made it back. Williams and Herrera are exactly the type of guys teams look for in the Rule 5 that can be hidden as the 7th or 8th reliever. Electric arms.
  18. It isn't like they can send Albers down, though. If he's gone, he's gone for good, as they'd have to DFA him. That would seem like a waste, at least to me. Albers was pretty great up until recently. Honestly, I think he would take Peralta's spot. The team won't really have a need for a fifth starter soon, and with the heavy pen usage, it would make sense to have another guy out there.
  19. Because any AL guy would have to pass though all AL teams on waivers before getting to the NL teams. I mean, it's possible, but less likely that it would happen. Zimmerman probably would.
  20. Possibilities: Jason Vargas - Mets - been pretty horrible Dan Straily - Marlins - serviceable, but probably not any kind of upgrade Homer Bailey - Reds - ugh Matt Harvey - Reds - been ok, and has an expiring contract. Amir Garrett - Reds - doesn't check all the boxes, but he's always intrigued me. So he's included. Phil Hughes - Padres - ugh Clayton Richard - Padres - serviceable I guess Tyson Ross - Padres - probably the best of the poo-poo platter Tough to tell right now, as there is just too many teams still in striking distance of the playoffs in the NL. A few more teams will be weeded out soon. Giants, Cardinals, Pirates, Nationals, I'm looking at you.
  21. Not possible. Would never make it to us on Waivers dude Given his relatively low salary commitment and the fact that he is controllable through next year, you are probably right. All AL teams would also get a shot at claiming him before he even got to the NL, too. He likely wouldn't make it past the first few teams in the pecking order. I do think he would be a good off-season target, though.
  22. Sucked to lose last night's game, but a big part of me thinks this series may just be a preview of what we may see in October. Electric playoff atmosphere, and the Brewers are proving that they are not outclassed whatsoever by the Dodgers, who are nearly everyone's pick to go back to the World Series. I think a Dodgers/Brewers NLCS would be one heck of a series.
