  1. I'm with you. No way should they trade Burnes for Machado. I don't want to trade Woodruff in a package for Machado either. I like Ortiz, but I'd be ok with that, just because he is further down the young starting pitching pecking order. Having so much young starting pitching depth is an odd feeling. I like it.
  2. The Brewers wouldn't be "giving away" anything. They'd be trading prospects to acquire one of the top bats in the game. In a season where they may very well be one steady bat away from being a World Series contender.
  3. Throw Woodruff in there too...and add Brown or modeiros in 2020 - not even really kidding Having piles of pitching is fun! Don't forget the fact that Hader will possibly be given the opportunity to start at some point as well. I know he's an All-Star reliever, and that's great. But he came up as a starter, and I imagine he'll want to go back to it at some point.
  4. If we're talking deGrom through 2020 I'm interested. No way it's worth a rental bat. Yeah, I think I'm with you. Established top of the rotation controllable arm or bust.
  5. Well, that debut ought to get the Orioles (and the Marlins, Rays, Tigers and Bluejays) salivating.
  6. Scheduled day off for Cain, per McCalvy. Good lord. All-star break approaching, he just got back from the DL, and he isn’t exactly a catcher. Stupid Well, it isn't like Cain is going to get a "break" during the All Star Break. Plus, 7 games in 6 days before the break.
  7. Burnes and Woodruff profile similarly as mid-rotation starters. Ortiz may be a step below them right now, but might actually have the highest ceiling of all of them. He just hasn't put together than dominant minor league season yet, partially due to injury and/or conditioning concerns, as mentioned. As I've mentioned before, I don't think that Burnes's value as a prospect is all that much higher than Woodruff or even Ortiz. He had a great year last year, be his is far from a can't miss TOR starter, I think.
  8. Nope. I’m right there with you. It would be doing the opposite of what I thought we were doing as an organization. I really was pumped to think we were headed in a different direction. A move like that makes me think Stearns will try to parlay this job into a larger market one. Agreed. If you trade Arcia, after Machado walks, you are left with Dubon coming off a torn ACL, Saladino who has been fine, but doesn't come near profiling as anything more than average, and Miller, who would probably hit enough, but has defensive issues. I guess Villar could be moved back to SS, but I would imagine there is a reason he hasn't logged any time there since 2016. If Machado is acquired, I think it would be with the understanding that Arcia would be back up as the main SS next year, hopefully after finding some plate discipline in AAA.
  9. Not much of an update, but Heyman speculates that the Brewers would/should be in on Dietrich. He is versatile, but I'm not real sure where he would play or who he would replace. Is he really an upgrade on our 2B/SS hodgepodge of Villar/Miller/Saladino/Perez/Orf?
  10. I would imagine that the longer the Orioles wait to deal him, the more his price goes down. Manny Machado on July 10 is much more valuable than Manny Machado on July 31. The longer they wait to deal him, the better for the Brewers. But, it also means they have to wait that much longer to get him in the lineup. The Brewers have very good clubhouse chemistry and several veteran leaders who have earned that role. It would be a horrible business decision for Machado to come in and do anything to disrupt that.
  11. Well, obviously he sucks and they overpaid.
  12. That was your original reponse to my post. A post that had no speculation and only Machado’s words. Your Nelson/TOR comments may not be about Machado but it sure shows that what you mention above is exactly what you do. It’s just that this time it goes against what you want. You got called out, didn’t like it, and had a hilarious reponse. It’s okay, we can all do better... You are right, the "logistical leaps" thing was a little strong. Haven't had enough coffee this morning yet I suppose. I concede ... you win.
  13. I don't know if that specific question was answered, though. He was asked what position he would like to play if traded, not whether he's open to shifting over to 3B in late-inning situations or spot starting there 1-2 times a week. All we can do is go by his words. So far it’s that he’s a shortstop. He plays shortstop. And we need a shortstop. Arguing over whether he'd be willing to play a different position in a pinch is like deciding not to put an offer in on your dream house because the carpet is not a light enough shade of beige.
  14. Do we really know that, though? His price will likely be lower now that it hypothetically was before the season. Either the price will be affordable in a team's eyes, or TB won't find a buyer. I don't see this as the time Stearns suddenly decides to throw caution to the wind. I also just don't see a team that turned down 3 top 50 prospects for Archer pre-2017 shipping him out at a big discount a year and a half later with still a lot of control left. Tucker, Martes and Paulino were all Top 50 guys at the time according to Baseball America, but not necessarily according to the Tampa Bay Rays.
  15. More specifically, the Brewers need a SS who isn't an offensive black hole. The best available trade candidate happens to play SS. We are the ones making this complicated.
  16. This coming from the guy who was arguing that the Brewers have jerked Villar around position-wise is just ... odd. I mean, Villar was in no position to determine where he played on the field. He didn't have the track record to do that. Machado obviously has a bigger track record. But that doesn't really matter. Machado is a SS, and that's where I would imagine he would see 99% of his playing time with the Brewers. That position, other than some decent play from Saladino in limited action, has been a black hole in the lineup. Machado would immediately solve the team's biggest short-term offensive weakness. And yes, I took the Nelson quote as saying, basically, "Hey, this guy isn't going to be with us much if at all this year, so don't be surprised if we do something to shore up that area." Yeah, it's probably a stretch, but this is the season for wild rumors and speculation. Oh my. Get called out and respond back with anything your can think of. Villar and his situation have nothing to do with anything being discussed. Heck, even you say that in your post, so why even mention it? Response of the day at its early... You called out my speculation on Nelson (which has absolutely nothing to do with this) in a Machado thread. Glass houses and all ...
  17. If Lutz had been drafted by the Yankees or Red Sox, he's sit at the top of their prospect rankings, likely be a MLB Top 25 guy, and would be getting pub as the key piece in any potential deadline trade. He is the exact type of guy that the Brewers should be hyping. They do a decent job of hyping their upper minors guys, but the lower level guys don't get much love. That needs to change if they want to stop having to trade guys who are close to MLB-ready for MLB reinforcements.
  18. No one knows what the price is until a deal is made. The rumored price has all been speculation. I mean, we can make educated guesses, but at the end of the day, that's all they are ... guesses. I'd argue that, given Archer's track record and the current state of the Brewers' pitching staff, he'd be at the top of their rotation. Does that make him a TOR starter? That is debatable. It may turn out that Archer will be the top non-rental starter available at the deadline. Or he may not even be available. It's all rumors and misdirection at this point.
  19. I don't know if that specific question was answered, though. He was asked what position he would like to play if traded, not whether he's open to shifting over to 3B in late-inning situations or spot starting there 1-2 times a week. Thank you. Context is important.

  21. Agreed. Disagree, but respect your guys' opinion. Personally, I think Archer is a perfect "change of scenery" candidate that could thrive in a playoff race. I get the red flags, and my hope would be that those would make the cost come down to an affordable level. Actually, those red flags may be the only reason a guy like Archer, in his physical prime and still under several years of affordable control, would theoretically be available.
