  1. Hey, I know a team that can use one of those! I get it regarding Machado, though. He came up through the Orioles system as a SS, only to be thrown over to 3B to accomodate JJ Hardy. I would imagine he'd like to primarily play one position. I have to imagine that he would be willing to fill in at 3B, though, if Shaw needed a breather. The guy has never come across as a locker room cancer or a me-first guy, so I'm not real sure where that idea is coming from. A few of you guys are making some pretty big logistical leaps in my opinion.
  2. The fact that the Milwaukee Brewers have been prominent (and perhaps leading for a time) bidders on premium players like Darvish and Machado under DS should be exciting enough for us. One of these times it's going to happen. It already happened January 26 when Lorenzo Cain signed his deal. He was and is every bit the star Machado and Darvish are.
  3. So does it bother anyone else that there is speculation tonight that the Yankees are showing interest in Machado? Not only do they not have a logical spot for him, it would be an inter-division trade. But national writers are already measuring him for pinstripes. Sheesh. I remember in spring I wanted the Brewers to make a deal with the Pirates for Cole and Harrison, but was told it was unlikely due to the teams being in the same division. Apparently that doesn't apply to the Yankees, though.
  4. Well that didn't happen! Ugh, should have skipped the start lol Zach Brown just needed to stay on a roll. Well, the only reason he was even speculated on what that they were supposedly skipping his start. Since that didn't actually happen, there is little smoke to tie Brown to the speculation, other than the fact that he is one of many Brewer system pitchers having a good year.
  5. Said this from the moment Knebel got the 'closer' role back. This team did so well managing the bullpen situationally in late innings when Knebel was out. Why they would go back to defined roles like that is baffling. 17 games over .500 is proof that the current bullpen usage is working.
  6. Every time I watch this inept offense, the more I would love to see Machado as part of the line-up. He obviously wouldn't be a cure-all, but is the type of hitter that can make those around him better.
  7. He's been very impressive lately. Nice to see him being used in Barnes' former leverage situations.
  8. He was great after a slow start before getting hurt. Affordable contract for the next several years. Durable and not old. Great stuff. Where do I sign up? He's the perfect Brewers target, regardless of what some posters think
  9. You might be giving up your starting catcher for the next five seasons alone not to mention two high quality arms. Didn't you know that besides Hiura, Burnes and Peralta, who can all walk on water, move mountains and fly faster than a speeding bullet, every single other one of our prospects is crap? Maybe that's a little much, but you get the idea. Sheesh, if Woodruf, Brown and Phillips, three very highly regarded, very quality prospects in their own right, aren't enough to get Machado, you walk away. Nottingham and Erceg are two of the team's Top 10 prospects. They aren't throw ins! There is absolutely no way the Orioles are going to get 5 of the team's top 10 prospects!
  10. Lineup just posted. Except for Perez hitting #7 at SS, you nailed it.
  11. That's a big haul for the Orioles, but I guess I'd swallow it if it made the Brewers the favorites in the NL this year. Tough to lose all three of those guys.
  12. If the price is Phillips and Woodruff, anything else better be a low-level prospect or an organizational soldier-type. Maybe they'd want Jake Hager or Dylan Moore to plug in at SS the rest of the season? I'd be very hesitant to include Arcia along with Phillips and Woodruff.
  13. I'm sure if you asked them, the Brewers would say it is simply innings count-related. But Brown has definitely put himself on the map as a potential fast riser, so it wouldn't surprise me if he were drawing interest. It's guys like him that make me more confident about trading away guys like Burnes or Woodruff. The Brewers have more solid starting pitching depth in the system currently than I can ever remember.
  14. Sorry, I guess I'm just getting antsy. I don't get how some posters are ready to throw Woodruff, Broxton and more at Machado, while the same guys are saying Burnes is untouchable. I mean is it simply because Burnes is less known? Both have solid middle of the rotation profiles. Woodruff is about 20 months older than Burnes. I mean, it's gotta be because Woodruff has ben kicking around the system longer, and already has MLB experience, right? Are we going to be looking at Burnes the same way at this time next year if he doesn't dominate at the MLB level? To me the two are interchangeable. That Milwaukee has moved Burnes to the bullpen - and brought him to Milwaukee - makes me think they would take him over Woodruff. Plus, the club's lack of use of Woodruff at times makes me wonder if they just don't trust him that much. Might be totally wrong. I might be reading into these moves stuff that totally doesn't exist. Just a guess. I do believe you are right that Burnes are Woodruff are somewhat interchangeable. I think Burnes' success (at least up through last year) has made him better in the eyes of many fans. Woodruff has more heat on his fastball, while Burnes profiles to have better control. Perhaps they feel that his control helps him profile as a better short-term reliever? But it isn't like Woodruff is a slouch minor league career-wise. He's got a minor league Pitcher of the Year award to his credit. I think it's more a case of "What have you done for me lately?" and Burnes's steady minor league ascent and success has made him the current flavor of the month.

  16. Maybe too he just is what he is ... which is nothing better than what the team already has in the rotation, in my opinion. They don't need another #3-4 starter. Starting pitching depth isn't a problem. If they could get a top-flight guy, though, that changes things. Happ and Hamels aren't that, especially at this point in their careers.
  17. The guy is putting up numbers he has never even come close to approaching before, in his walk year, at 34 years old. He's fine I guess, but Jed Lowrie is never going to be a player an opposing team pitches around. I don't think he is enough of an upgrade from Miller or Saladino to bother.
  18. I would love that deal but if that’s all it would take why hasn’t it happened already? It’s basically just Woodruff for the best offensive infielder in the game. Seems like a no brainer. I wouldn't blame the Brewers for being hesitant to give up Woodruff. Young starting power pitchers are rare enough, not to mention the fact that he has looked very good at Colorado Springs this year, whereas Burnes (who many say is off limits) has struggled at Colorado Springs. Woodruff isn't some "throw-in" type pitcher. The guy is following a very similar path that Jimmy Nelson did, and could very well turn out to be a solid mid-rotation starter, if not much more.
  19. Attanasio has said he'd open the checkbook. Castro for Arcia and Wilkerson would be a good move, upgrade SS through 2020, when Carmona/Turang will be knocking at the door. You are really beating the "Arcia is worth nothing" idea to death. I think you are very, very wrong.
  20. Why are we discounting Woodruff so much? He is every bit the prospect Burnes is ... the only difference is he's got some MLB time. Why in the world would we rather include Woodruff and another good arm than Burnes?
  21. I agree. There is so much smoke out there right now regarding the potential package needed, it's hard to know what is legit. Personally, I think packaging Broxton with a pitcher is a solid use of system depth for an immediate upgrade. I like Burnes, but not nearly as much as many others here do. I'd be ok with Burnes and Broxton for Machado, although it would be nice to either hang onto Burnes or use him as currency to acquire either a top starter or a more controllable asset such as Realmuto.
  22. Doesn't take a lot to connect the dots that Woodruff is the headliner in a potential Machado package.
  23. I took those comments as greasing the wheels for a major trade acquisition for the rotation. It isn't going to be a Hamels or Happ, either. It's going to be bigger than that, and cost a lot.
  24. I would guess Villar or Perez. Maybe Kratz if he gets the majority of the playing time with Pina out.
