  1. Ok, so items are cooking with Toronto. Will be interesting to see what is finalized. Uh, Chernoff is the GM of the Indians.
  2. Oh snap! He gone. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/02/rangers-to-sign-seung-hwan-oh.html Pretty dang reasonable deal too. I would have done that. I guess they think they are set in the pen with the Albers deal.
  3. And apparently I'm glad I missed you. Ha! Apparently you have Twitter trolls imitating you as well. And it's also readily apparent that Adam McCalvy is following this tread. Hi Adam!
  4. My question would be then that if the Brewers don't see themselves as a likely landing spot for Darvish, are they engaged on a pitcher like Cobb? I'm warming on him as a potential TOR starter. He doesn't have near the milage on his arm that a guy like Darvish or Arrieta has.
  5. I agree, which is why I think Santana is the man without a home. While he would be a nice bench bat, that would be a waste of value. He's another guy that should be playing nearly every day, and that just isn't going to happen the way the team's outfield is currently constructed.
  6. Odd man out of what? Playing time? Yes, playing time. I can't see that. If Braun is healthy, he's still probably the best hitter in the lineup. It's just nice to see that fact up for debate now, when in the past there was no debate. I would imagine that a healthy Braun is going to see 3-4 starts per week at 1B, with another 1-2 per week in LF. I wouldn't play him in RF unless we absolutely had to, though. Cain, Yelich and Phillips will need days off, but all three of those guys have positional versatility to make that happen. On the days Braun plays LF, Yelich could shift to CF and Cain to RF. Phillips is going to be above average in any of those positions, but his arm and athleticism could be truly special in RF. I still say Santana is dealt.
  7. Odd man out of what? Playing time? The team isn't going to cut him, and he has full no-trade protection. The only team Braun says he'd approve a trade to is the Dodgers, and to make that work, the Brewers would likely have to take Kemp's albatross of a contract back, which makes no sense. Santana is infinitely more movable, which is why he's the one on the block.
  8. I'm sure the value of the prospect then would hinge on how much money is coming back the Brewers' way. Regardless, I can't imagine it would be a super high-end prospect. I could see someone like Carlos Herrera going back to the Indians.
  9. So Adam McCalvy tweeted this morning about a couple of Twitter users following him: High Heat and HighHeat19. Why do people have to suck so much? Dummy Twitter accounts? Really? I don't really understand the Kipnis interest, either, unless they believe he's primed for a bounce-back. I suppose he is a better contact guy, and isn't going to strike out near as much as Villar. But he and Sogard's skillsets are somewhat redundant. I wonder if the Indians are saying that the price would be less if they take Kipnis and Salazar/Bauer/Clevenger back as a package, with the Brewers eating the Kipnis salary?
  10. Couple of things ... on Archer, I'm glad Stearns is playing hardball. Personally, I'd give up Santana, Burnes, Peralta and another prospect in that deal, but Phillips is a non-starter. He's a perfect fit for the team's revamped strong defensive OF. And they'll need him, especially if Santana is dealt. I don't blame the Rays for asking for the moon, though. Archer, given his contract, is extremely valuable. As for a serviceable catcher, I'm stumped. Lucroy is easily the top catcher left on the market, but then you're looking at back-up type guys like Hannigan or Salty, or old guys like Ruiz or AJ Ellis. I don't know if there is anything after Lucroy that would be an upgrade on Vogt.
  11. Thanks Debbie Downer!
  12. No. My opinion is that Jake is a last minute acquisition if needed on opening day due to injuries or total ineffectiveness. Brewer's current targets are better than Odorizzi and will exhaust those options first. Pretty sure he means Arietta ... I think.
  13. Excellent question. They really do want to upgrade SP big time, but the prices are extremely high (as of right now). Stearns is very cost conscious. If compete means race for the wild card..... yes. Playoffs....no. Thanks. This is pretty much what I figured. I still think there are too many balls in the air SP-wise for the Brewers not to come down with any of them.
  14. HH, do you feel that the team feels that an upgrade to the rotation is as much of a priority as many are making it out to be here? Do they think they can compete with the rotation as constructed?
  15. I'm sorry if I read that the wrong way. But saying "Yeah, it's probably time started coming to grips with the notion that this is the team that will start the year. A team with some offense but not enough to overcome a weak pitching staff" comes across that you are frustrated. Which I totally get. After making the big outfield moves that they did, I don't have faith that the current makeup of the pitching staff is going to measure up, either. But I'm still hopeful/optimistic that there is time for a move/moves to be made. I don't know what you think is so different between what you said and what I said but you've managed to both quote and paraphrase me in the same post. Both of those are your quotes. There's just no way to include two quotes. Perhaps "frustrated" is the wrong term. Does "pessimistic" work better? Being a long-time Brewer fan, I know it's very easy to fall into that hole as well. I'm just trying to stay optimistic that there are still a lot of free agents out there, and trade chatter, and I have not yet resigned myself to the idea that they are done with player acquisition.
  16. It depends what constitutes a "top of the market offer". I think Stearns has a number in his head on where he'd go for these guys, and while there may be a wiggle room there, he's not going to blow that out of the water. If the market comes to them, the Brewers will sign one of those guys.
  18. I get that you are frustrated that something hasn't happened yet, but there are seemingly too many irons in the fire pitching wise for them to walk away empty-handed. I would be very, very surprised if they went into Spring Training with the current pitching staff as-is. And Stearns' interview over the weekend with Haudricourt? Complete smokescreen. I mean, what's he supposed to say? "Well, we have the foundation of a deal in place for Chris Archer, but I'm hung up on whether to include Brett Phillips. I sure hope no one else hops in while I'm deciding! Hey, are you taping this?"
  19. Yes, that would be the definition of collusion. And how does having one of the league's most marketable stars sitting on the sidelines because of a "wink, nod" agreement benefit the game? I get the argument that the players are making a lot of money, but should the players make peanuts while owners rake in millions upon millions in revenue every year, while justifying raising the costs of tickets, concessions and merchandise by blaming rising player salaries?
  20. I agree ... there's no way Arcia is going anywhere. Also, as I alluded to in the other thread, I'm not sure where you are thinking, Clancy, that Bickford has ANY value? He's coming off a year where he was both suspended and hurt. Plus, Arizona makes out like absolute bandits in that deal. Sure, they are paying off quite a bit of Greinke's salary, but they end up with Archer AND Arcia, who are extremely affordable.
  21. I think he probably meant Barnes, as the values of Burnes and Bickford don't even comes close to matching. Either way, these deals aren't going to happen. Teams aren't going to be interested in taking our crap for one of their studs. I don't get the absolute need to "win" the trade that seems to be a common idea here. I think if you talked with most GMs, they'd tell you that when they make deals, the goal would be for both teams to benefit. I think when you see trades that appear to be absolute fleecings, it not only makes the GM getting fleeced look bad, it also reflects poorly on the GM doing the fleecing. These guys are the ultimate "score keepers", so they remember when a guy makes a deal where he took advantage of another guy.
  22. So your willing to give up Santana and either spare parts or under-performing prospects? Barnes is a "just ok" reliever coming off a very inconsistent year. Bickford's stock probably couldn't be much lower right now, so he'd be a "sell low". Wilkerson has basically no trade value. There are dozens of MiLB free agents out there that can provide what he does. Your second deal is odd, as it has Santana, a spare part in Aguilar who I guess would play 1B in Tampa, and Bickford and Nottingham coming off poor years, for Archer and three low-ceiling guys coming off very nice years. I don't get the appeal from the Rays' side.
  23. I would expect Cashner to end up in Baltimore or even Pittsburgh. I could see him getting a 2 year deal easily. If he has a good first half on top of his 2017, he could become a flip candidate. I agree. He screams "sign-and-trade" to me. Really no risk at all for a team that isn't going to be in the hunt this year. From the Brewers perspective, though, I don't think he offers anything that a guy like Woodruff or even Wilkerson doesn't.
  24. I would say the price to acquire solid starting pitching is higher than the price to acquire an above-average 2B, so despite Hiura's potentially superstar hit tool, I think I'd rather go with him in a deal than Burnes. Burnes is likely closer to being ready to make an MLB contribution, and Hiura has serious questions about where he fits defensively. Hopefully he puts those to rest this season. That said, I highly doubt the Rays are going to trade Archer without solid starting pitching potential coming back.
