You would think Stearns has a whole board filled with possible offers to some of these holdout players hoping he can just bolster our depth even that much more than it is. Got to be hard staying patient on it but I am really glad he is. Could pay off for a franchise like the Brewers. Agreed I'd like to add Cobb/Lynn to the rotation as well, but not if it costs 18 AAV for 3 yrs +. That could really hinder the Crew from taking on another contract mid season or future yrs.
I'm starting to think what Chatwood got might be closer to what Lynn/Cobb may get the longer this plays out too. And if they're not careful it might be for less.
Read on mlb trade rumors Philly doesn't want to go beyond 3 yrs on any SP and the Chatwood deal was to high for Lynn or Cobb for them. Would link but crappy phone.
It's the type of showing that would give previous Brewer managers a false sense of security. If he makes the rotation over guys like Suter and Woodruff, it will be disappointing. Woodruff yes Suter not so much. Suter is a left handed Carlos Villanueva. Don't want to really on him to eat a ton of inngs. His value is maximized as a swing man. Adding Cobb is preferable thou.
We're a week into Spring Training. Eventually the league is gonna catch up to that flat 88 MPH heater. He knows he's pitching for a job, so he's gonna be as "on" as he can be. The gun said between 91-94. MLB track said that as well. Breaking stuff looked good no real hard contact. Will see if he can keep it up. Mid-March will be the real test.
Miley looks better than Yo, Guerra, & is pounding the zone so far. If he continues to perform well I don't see the issue with him being in the rotation. Millone was terrible in ST last year not really comparable.
That uptick was from him moving to the bullpen. He walks way too many people & no longer is able to get away with it with K's & DP's. Doubtful his days as a SP will continue. Bullpen is his future unless he wants to bounce around eating inngs on bad teams.
That puts them around 110 million. If they add Cobb or Lynn it would be around 125. I don't see them doing that. Phils, Nats, Brewers, & maybe Cards are the ones that might spend money on SP.
I have a feeling Lynn will sign soon. After that the market for Cobb should be pretty well cemented. So the brewers will know if they need to go the trade route.
It would also say there isn't much of a market for Arietta. I'm guessing 3 yrs guaranteed with two vesting options is the best he can get. But Boras seems to usually find a way.
You wanted Drury? I'd rather give 2b to dubon and bat him 8th with a white flag tied on his bat. Drury isn't good. Brewers already have a Drury type with Perez.
