The problem is that although I love Stearns, he’s backed himself into a corner over the last 12 months. He’s refused time and time again to go out and get the starting rotation help that everybody has been able to see is so desperately needed. He’s made additions that while nice, maybe haven’t been the most pressing and he’s given up good prospects to do it, therefore depleting the farm and now making it hard to get the frontline starter he so desperately needs. By constantly trying to be 3 steps ahead of the curve in how to approach the game, he’s now behind it trying to get a starting pitcher. Every other GM knows that too. It’s an uphill battle now. I still like the guy and think he’s brilliant. I just think in this case he’s outsmarted himself and he may have to resort to trying to catch lighting in a bottle.
