  1. Milwaukee sports reporter Paul Imig just reported he had a luncheon with Stearns who said he was quite high on Zack Brown - I would cross him off the list as I'm sure a prospect like that doesn't move the needle enough in a trade to want to give him up if you value him highly. What it DOES do is make you wonder if a Burnes, Peralta, or Woodruff are more expendable as he is another guy who could be on the cusp at AA.
  2. Braves don't do that.
  3. I think the thought process is, how much worse can he be than how Pina is playing anyways? On offense, I would assume .219 / .636 (Pina's stats for year) would be in line with the 2016-2017 Nottingham. How much of this years stats is CS and small sample size, versus having turned the corner on his offense?..... It is hard to say how much of a dropoff you would get defensively, and not something I dismiss readily. So if Kratz folds, and Nottingham comes up and shows competent defense, I don't know why he shouldn't get 40% of the games and Pina gets 60%. I do agree that it can't be worse than Pina, but I'm also advocating we get Realmuto - I'm not happy with any of our in house options.
  4. Even if Nelson DOES come back, I would caution you thinking it's like getting ace. He's had one ace year so far in his career and coming back from a major surgery and we're lucky if he's at that level. The upside is, if he IS pitching great, it costs nothing.
  5. If that were possible this thread would be locked as the deal would be done.
  6. Nottingham coming up to struggle isn't what we should be banking on - a team in first place doesn't have the luxary of "seeing if a guy is ready maybe" at the major league level.
  7. Maybe. You're getting Realmuto without having to give up (arguably) our two top prospects, Hiura and Peralta. Hard to argue with that, and Castro fills a need too. I agree with Plush that you'd ideally like to substitute in some lower level talent for some of the AA level talent. Maybe see if you can substitute in Diplan and Lutz for Grisham and Woodruff. The problem is that if the Marlins aren't getting our two best, you can bet they are going to be stingy about wanting a ton of talent on the backside. Without Hiura, they rightfully will ask for a lot more.
  8. My thoughts were that you’re catching a guy before he hits his prime. It wasn’t a knock on Aguilar or Thames but achieving that young controlled talent. Nice idea, but we aren't in the position to be trading away important major league talent when we are in first place.
  9. I don't think I would do that, but it has me thinking about Realmuto... Do people think it's possible to get Realmuto without giving up Hiura, Burnes, or Peralta? Would something like Woodruff, Ray, and a 3rd lesser piece be enough? Adding Realmuto could really solidify this lineup for the rest of this season and the next couple, IMO. I don't think it's possible which is why I focused on higher-level talent quantity with Burnes as a centerpiece. I do think it's a lot, but I wouldn't blink.
  10. Burnes, Woodruff, Ray, Grisham, and Erceg for Realmuto and Castro
  11. Why are people still trying to rebuild? Sure, get prospects when you can but don't trade guys who are actively helping you have the best record in the national league.
  12. I would do it, just because deGrom is a special kind of talent and could really put the Brewers over the top. We don't have any no doubt prospects like the Braves, Yankees, etc. have (and I know of course no prospect is "no doubt" but we have more quantity than high end quality. Even Hiura who SEEMS like a no doubter has his share of doubts - does he stay at 2B? Is his arm healthy? Will is K% go down? DeGrom is about as sure of a thing as there is for a pitcher who is available for a few years.
  13. Nelson is far far far far from a sure thing to even be back at the all star break - it's only a little over a month away and he's only playing long toss. At this point it seems like late August at the earliest, and even then it's a long long long long longshot that he's immediately effective as he was last year. It took him how many years to figure it out the first time, there's a lot of doubt that he can just drop right in.
  14. Angels are totally not that out of it - sure this year is tough but they have Trout and Ohtani - it's not THAT bleak for them.
  15. I think at this Point adding Realmuto and Castro would be the best move the Brewers could make to upgrade. Yes, adding a big time starting pitcher might be the sexy move, but our rotation has been solid the way Counsell uses it with his elite bullpen. Adding these two would upgrade our two weakest positions significantly. It just makes sense. Realmuto is a stud and Pina makes a GREAT backup especially with his defense. Castro might not provide the defense Arcia does, but at this point Arcia loses pretty much all of the value he earns on D with his horrid approach at the plate. Castro is a shorter term option while Arcia figures it out down at AAA, and then if he comes back Castro can be a great platoon or backup 2B or SS. His contract may even lighten the load of prospects it takes.
  16. Archer seems like the kind of guy that could thrive with a winning culture and some good coaching. When was the last time the Rays really developed a great pitcher? Now, I know we don't have an excellent track record in that regard either, but here and now, this seems like the kind of clubhouse that could really motivate a gamer like Archer to get his act together - and his ceiling is quite high. Look at what Gerrit Cole did when he got out of Pittsburgh and went to the 'Stros. I know with out past it seems out of place to call Milwaukee a place with a "winning culture" but I do believe the system that is in place now is a good one that a motivated player with potential can succeed in.
  17. Please god no.
  18. If that's what Realmuto cost, he would be a Brewer already - or else on a different team that paid a similarly low price. Archer one is doable - it has quality with Hiura but lacks the quantity many fear it would take. Honestly I would do Realmuto one in a heartbeat and the Archer one only with the other one, not on it's own.
  19. Source our of Korea says Ji-Man Choi has requested a trade to a team who will play him more in the major leagues - they are also calling him up today with no word on a corresponding move. If they end up cutting ties with Choi, I don't see us trading either Thames or Aguilar.
  20. LINEUP: 1. Cain - CF 2. Yelich - RF 3. Aguilar - 1B 4. Shaw - 3B 5. Braun - LF 6. - Villar 2B 7. Pina - C 8. Saladino - SS 9. Suter - P
  21. Because we have a legitimate chance to win a division and we could upgrade one of our weakest positions with a very solid player.
  22. But we DO have depth there. In left field, we could play Thames, Phillips, Broxton, or Choi. I'm not saying the defense of Thames or Choi is ideal, but it's not like Braun is the only other guy who can play there if Mingo is gone.
  23. Why does anyone continue to put Bickford's name in these trades as anything other than a throw in? He has no value. His velocity has dropped like 10 miles per hour and he cannot stay on the field.
  24. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2777732-mlb-trade-rumors-royals-quietly-informing-teams-theyre-open-to-deal Could the Royals being open for business signal a possible blockbuster deal with the Brewers? We all remember the slow winter meetings, and although nothing major happened, Stearns did say he laid a lot of foundation on potential moves. Trades don't start from scratch midseason, teams talk all the time and maybe the groundwork laid here could lead to a huge move for the Brewers. Knowing full well it would be expensive, how insane would it be if we were able to get Merrifield and Perez? Whit reminds me of a guy like Travis Shaw - never really a hyped prospect but in the major leagues, he just hits. Perez is a great "veteran" leader, best friends with Cain, and a 5 time all-star catcher. I like Manny Pina and think he adds a lot to the team chemistry, but how good does he look as a backup to Salvy? It would be very pricey, but these are not rentals - Salvy isn't a free agent until 2021 and Merrifield is still arbitration eligible. I would do a haul like: Santana, Burnes, Hiura, Nottingham, and some lower pitching. We have the pitching depth to lose Burnes, Huira would be blocked by Whit, Nottingham blocked by Perez and Arcia, Santana hurts, but we have OF depth.
