  1. With regard to Braun. I've noticed over the last couple games that he's had some nice at bats where he runs the count 2-0 or 2-1 and seems to make up his mind to take one more pitch which tends to be a fastball down the middle. I didn't pay close enough attention to point out the specific at bats that I'm thinking about, it just seems that I've noticed him being conscious of not swinging at junk early in the count and then panicking into swinging at everything once he takes a strike.
  2. What about Kapler then, whose %s are roughly the same? Sorry TLB, I was trying to be a little tongue-in-cheek there. I should have posted that sentance in blue. I'm guessing that could mean that Rickie's just got bad luck right now? The biggest differnce I notice is the contact % between Weeks and Kapler.

  4. What else might these numbers suggest? Rickie's got his approach backwards, Braun is out of control, and Prince is making due with what's given to him? I really don't know the answer to the question, but it seems like you're presenting us with a "teaching moment" that I'm trying to decipher. Perhaps it could suggest that Rickie is under orders to take pitches, Braun has been told to swing away, and Prince is still taking what's being given to him? Or maybe event that sooner rather later there's going to be some big time slump busting from the top of the order once they stop looking for a "specific" pitch and start getting aggressive after pitches that are "in the zone"? I'm looking forward to the rest of the discussion on this question.

  6. I'll be interested to see it as part of it was actually filmed around the corner from my house.
  7. I know it's early in the season and I know he's been in our system for a long time, but Brad Nelson is off to a decent start in Nashville. With his production last season and what he's done early this year, it seems as though he's got a bit of pop back in his bat. He can play 1B and corner OF (I think), might he have a future as a reserve OF/1B? I know that we've got loads of OF propsects at AA and A+ who have starter potential, I'm just curious if Nelson might have some limited MLB value to the Brewers or if he'll top out as a AAAA guy. As has been discussed a bit before, it's nice to develop role players through our drafting as much as high ceiling prospects. Any thoughts?
  8. I would think that the only person who would move Hall off of 3B in the next year or two would be Mat Gamel. We have a glut of outfielders coming through the pipeline in the next couple of years that could make it hard to move Rickie off of second, which I don't consider necessary. I think that at this point, it's too tough to prediect what our infield will look like in two years depending on who succeeds or fails in the minor leagues, how management wants to deal with the current young players contracts, and how all of them might be used to add pitching depth to the major league and minor league levels. For the time being, we're set in the infield so I won't worry too much about the future. I'll simply enjoy the show that these young guys are going to put on for us.
  9. If you're staying in Pittsburgh, make sure to hit up the Strip District for food/drinks/entertainment. Also, you would be remiss if you did not stop at Primanti Brothers for one of their classic sandwiches. You can pretty much get any type of filling in the sandwich but the clincher is the cole slaw and fries they pile on. I've only been there once and didn't have too much time to explore the city, but the brief glimpse I had was enjoyable. Additionally, PNC is one great stadium to catch a game at. It's at the top of my list for stadiums I've visited. The Racing Pierogies are enjoyable but pale in comparision to our Racing Sausages.
  10. Usually, the Saturday Fox game is of a solid regional matchup. Last Saturday I think that was usurped in favor of Fox thinking that the whole country wanted to see the Yanks and Red Sox. Just about any other time of the year, I would have been able to watch the Brewers and the Mets because of regional coverage in the Northeast. It is very, very rare in Philly for us to see an AL East game on Fox Saturday as it is almost always a NL East game.
  11. The only blackout problems I notice with Extra Innings (I live in Philly) are: 1) If the Brewers are playing in Philly (and I don't get Comcast Sports) or 2) When there's Fox Saturday afternoon regional coverage Last year I was able to watch more Brewers games than my buddies in Milwaukee with FSN because I could always get the other teams broadcast. I love it and for me it's worth the money as I'll watch just about any game. I particularly enjoy being able to watch a load of NL West games that you usually don't get the chance to see.
  12. That the regional FOX coverage in Philly today is of the Yankees v. Red Son instead of the Brewers and Mets. Seriously. That is ridiculous. At just about any other time of the season, you'd see the Mets game. Bah. Now I've got to figure out what to do with the rest of my afternoon.
  13. A French press is great, but if you like more than a couple cups of joe, it's not the answer. I've got a Cuisinart grind 'n brew with a thermal carafe. I like the fact that it grinds the coffee for me and the thermal carafe, but that's about it. The grinding bucket (or whatever it may be called) is a bit small imo. Also, when the coffee is brewed some steam gets into the grinding bucket meaning that you've got to wash it out almost daily to keep sludge from building up. If I had the purchase to do over again I'd buy a good burr grinder and a high quality drip coffee maker that has a cone copper filter or that takes cone paper filters.
  14. Raking leaves. No good reason, I've just never enjoyed it at all.
  15. Over the years I've been a recreational video game player. I've owned Nintendo, Genesis, XBox and will play from time to time. My birthday was on Monday and I received a Wii as a surprise gift. I certainly was surprised as I didn't ask for it and really have been playing video games less and less. None-the-less, it was a very nice, thoughtful gift from my wife and my in-laws. Can you guys (or gals) help me get jacked up about this? From what I've read around, it seems pretty cool, but still, I'm not exuberant about this like I know they want me to be. Please help me feel some Wii joy. Thanks.
  16. I'd like to second End's vote for the poke test. If you keep your hand loose and poke the fleshy part between your index finger and thumb, that's about what rare will feel like when you poke the steak.
  17. Come one some people on here have to be into making their own BBQ sauce? Yup, I do. I make a couple different versions during the summertime. For pulled pork, I make a cider vinegar based mustard sauce. I'll make a stock tomato based sauce as well, but I'll never use ketchup as a base because it seems to influence the flavor too much. I also have different varieties I make for chicken and fish preparations. As a fall back though, if I'm too lazy to make one from scratch, I'll pick up Stubbs as it's good with just about everything.
  18. I've lived in Indiana, Minnesota, Texas, Philly (twice), and even Mexico. All those places had some degree of charm that left me with lasting memories but Wisconsin (and specfically southeastern WI) will always be home. Someday I'll make it back. About two weeks ago I was in Milwaukee for about 20 hours and was absolutely giddy the entire time. I could have just driven my rental car around town all day and not been disappointed one bit.
  19. Thanks for the help and suggestions. I'm leaning towards using wordpress as it seems like it will do everything I need. I messed around with building a geocities site, but thought that it was pretty craptacular.
  20. So, as the title of the thread suggests, I'm interested in creating a web page. The purpose of the page, more than anything, is the facilitate the documentation of shared ideas between a buddy of mine and me who are planning a sweet vacation in about a year. After we're done using the site for the sharing of information between the two of us, we want to use it to document our trip, post links, photos, music files, etc. I'm pretty much a joke when it comes to doing these kind of things (the techonology piece, not the research piece) and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions about the best way for me to go about doing this. Thanks, Ando
  21. Over the last year I've started down the homebrewing path. Instead of trying to boil all five gallons of water, use less as this will also help to cool the wort down faster so you can add the yeast and not kill it. When I've brewed I've used maybe three and then added water to the fermentor before I add the yeast. The brewing store I buy my ingredients from actually packages kits for specific beer varities that include their own set of instructions so a fair amount of guessing is eliminated. The only issue that I've had so far was making a weak flavored batch of Octoberfest because I did not allow the grains to steep long enough. Other than that I've tried to keep it rather simple for the time being and everything has been sea shells and balloons. Oh, one more thing: sanitize, sanitize, saniztize. Sterility is your friend when it comes to brewing. I'll second the previous poster who recommneded Papazian's book: it is excellent for learning the ropes.
  22. When people say "irreglardless" or "unthaw". They're not words.
  23. The wife and I spent last night catching up on a couple of much hyped films: The Bourne Ultimatum and Super Bad. The Bourne Ultimatum was just great. I don't know what else to say about it really; it was a great last installment for the franchise. Super Bad was Super Disappointing. It had a couple of good moments, but that was about it. I found Jonah Hill's performance to be particularly annoying (which is realize was part of the purpose for his character). He just played the same character he did in Knocked Up bit with a lot more lines and screen time. Tonight though, we'll hopefully see a good one as we've also rented Once.
  24. Garbarge collectors. For two years now the trash collectors in my town have been picking up the trash every Wednesday at about 10:30 am which meant that I could put the trash out when I leave for work around 8 am. The last two weeks they'v been by to pick up the garbage at 7:30 am. What gives?
  25. What happens if the "top prospect" is Gallardo? In my mind that would make the deal not doable. Unless DM would really have some tricks up his sleave, I'm not sure how our pitching would compete well next season at all.
