    Cash made his best shot, lost em both. We’re in the driver’s seat now all the way. Brewers only need to fear themselves. Play up to their standard and they’ll win comfortably. Still haven’t been clean, and still winning. What a team!

    Awful, no good, very bad game: another short start from Miz, relievers played with fire all night, Bunty forgets how to run, hitters left several scoring opportunities go by, and Pratt with another critical mistake. Brewers win, lead 1-0. The only thing that matters.

    It should get loud. The Brewer fans can make an impact in this one, and in the whole series I think (I’ve seen numbers on the resale market to suggest that the crowds in Tampa could have a lot of Brewers fans—not 50/50, but way more than what the LA games had).

    Skubal, Yamamoto, Snell, Glasnow. And we’re to fear Rasmussen, Freddy, Martinez? I don’t know if it matters. Miz has lost some of his spin rate and command, and may not get it back until next year. He was really mediocre results-wise in two games and we won anyway against very good opposing pitching. All of LA’s murderer’s row of starting pitchers were dealing…until they weren’t. They’re history now. Nothing against the Rays pitchers, but if the Brewers don’t get it done, the story should be that they did not play up to their potential and did things (chasing balls, committing egregious errors) that were anomalous to the team that has won 110 games to date with by far the best run differential.

    I began the month with predicting a title after a 4-2 World Series record (though I predicted Judge would come back and carry New York to a pennant) so I’ll stick with that: Brewers in 6. Like many of you, I’m also surprised by my lack of nerves. There’s definitely a feeling of excitement, and I have seen more than enough playoffs from the Brewers (and Packers) to know how very real the prospect of defeat remains. But this team looks and sounds like a group that is at the meeting point of confidence, preparation, and experience. This organization has proven itself elite at every level, taken its licks and gone to school on its mistakes, and it’s all coming together at the perfect time. The Brewers were the best team in baseball nearly all year, are clearly superior to the Rays, and have already proven their mettle against the hottest team as well as what may go down as the greatest assemblage of talent in the history of the sport. For all that, our Brewers are 7-1. Friends: if they lose, it will be because of the strangeness of baseball, but I’ve never been more convinced of our team’s greatness than I am right now. If they fail, it will hurt, though I can accept it. But I think we win.

    Add “Brought to you by Kalshi Boulevard” to your intersection and that’s going to be an even uglier pileup. If match fixing and point shaving has come to every other sport, and now the gambling money is a million times greater, it is a question of if and not when. The NFL is so incredibly short-sighted right now it is laughable.

    Another game where they did what they had to do, and it could have been even bigger. I’m not convinced the o-line will ever be good enough, but their defense is getting better and passed a big test tonight. Overall, they’re probably going to get good enough to claw their way to the playoffs again. Rinse and repeat.

    This possibility has been in the back of my mind, as well, but since it was predicated on an outcome I scarcely dared to whisper, I never mused it out loud. But it wouldn’t surprise me if he rode off into the sunset. And it wouldn’t surprise me if he stayed another five years, either.

    Diaz is looking much improved, but some bad swings by the captain. I know Yeli’s been better this postseason, and I can’t complain about the overall body of work. But you can tell by his interviews about Milwaukee and Bob he internalizes so much of the pressure of where this team is. I always get the sense he wants it too much almost. He has to learn to let go more.
