    It is getting to the point where the players that we hope to build around need to win a game just so that they know it can be done. Chourio, Turang, Ortiz, Contreras: they all need to prove to themselves it is possible, and get out of this psychological funk that seems to surround this organization when it comes to postseason baseball.

    I honestly can’t believe they only got two there. That’s what being a Brewer fan has come to. Something goes wrong, and I assume a three run innings is the floor for the opponent.

    All I’ve got left is a fool’s hope. The hope that grade school me had when all the Brewers did was lose year after year and all I wanted was to watch a winner. Time to win some games in October. It might just take one to start the dominos falling. Might as well be tonight. Probably not, but maybe…

    The really galling thing is that the organizational philosophy for about ten years has hammered pitching and defense. That is a demoralizing stat.

    The “undaunted” thing gets a lot of play because the media can easily make it into a cutesy story. Murphy, like any other coach worth their salt, knows that sports requires narrative, and a young team needs to learn resilience and how to navigate a long and arduous season. But all that goes out the window in the postseason. The stakes are different, the stress is different, the put your head down and work like a mule climbing a mountain approach doesn’t work when your season can end in 18 innings, or in three pitches. So I doubt Murphy is making too much of a deal about being “undaunted” right now, but in light of today’s events, it sure is an annoying media talking point.
