  1. The last game we had on FS1 called him that too. Well, I'm glad he just unleashed the 'genie in a bottle'.
  2. There's always free streams of games to be found on Reddit an hour or so before game time
  3. Thank you David Stearns for putting this team together. He had a plan and stuck to it.
  4. I don't know - I think Yelich has surpassed Sabathia after tonight.
  5. The '82 team was also shut out only once as well.
  6. I've always wondered about this sort of thing, but what's to stop Attanasio from just opening up his wallet and throwing a boatload of money at these guys to keep them here? There aren't any salary cap rules for front office folks, right? I have no idea what these guys make, but it seems to me that if you have a top-notch staff, you'd want to keep them together any way you can. Even doubling their salaries seems like it would wind up being inconsequential down the road in comparison to what they provide to the success of the team.
  7. Thank you David Stearns for coming onboard, sticking to your guns and your specific plan, and getting us back into the postseason after just two seasons
  8. Well, he was a Cardinal, and from what I hear VERY classy Seriously though, that one is a head-scratcher. Granted it was during the war years and the talent league-wide was diluted, but Marion had a .686 OPS, 6 homers, and just 63 RBIs! Must've had something to do with the Cardinals winning the Series that year I'm sure. Any one of the next three guys in the voting that season would've been my choice: Bill Nicholson, Cubs -- .287/391/.545/.935 OPS, 33 HR's, 122 RBIs Dixie Walker, Dodgers -- .357/.434/.529/.963 OPS, 13 HR's, 91 RBIs Stan Musial, Cardinals -- .347/.440/.549/.990 OPS, 12 HR's, 94 RBIs - you'd think Musial would've won it with St. Louis taking it all that year
  9. Wasn't it said last year when he hit all those home runs the first month that they had already gotten the full value of his contract just from that production alone? Or am I not remembering that right? And he's making $5 million this season - obviously that's nothing to sneeze at, but the average MLB salary is about $4.5 million, so no big whoop. Braun and Thames have similar stats in a lot of areas, and Braun is making 4 times as much... Thames - 235 ABs, .789 OPS, 107 OPS+, .7 WAR, 16 HRs Braun --- 355 ABs, .767 OPS, 102 OPS+, .8 WAR, 15 HRs
  10. Yeah because he was pitching on short rest because they had no other options. Sabathia managed to shine on short rest late in the season. His last 3 regular season starts of 2008 were each on 3 days of rest, and in those he pitched a total of 21.2 innings and only gave up 2 runs. He had that same 3 days of rest for his playoff start, but lasted just 3.2 innings, giving up 5 runs.
  11. Hopefully this means that if the Brewers do wind up facing the Cubs in the postseason, there will FINALLY be more Brewer fans than Cub fans in Miller Park.
  12. Well, at least not till 2021. I'm sure the front office can't wait to exercise that $4 million buyout.
  13. This is good to hear. I've been reading this forum probably since 2003, but only recently did I actually sign up for an account. In the past month or so, I also started noticing a much more negative shift in the quality of the board posts, so much so that I haven't been visiting here much lately. Glad to know that it wasn't just me who felt this way. I will say that I have quite a few posters on 'ignore', and yes, it works wonders
  14. 25th homer for Ray today! And for what it's worth, he's only struck out in 3 of his last 16 ABs
  15. These have to be from that same bunch of posters who always seem to have a problem with any move the team makes. I love that Stearns and his staff always seem to find these diamonds in the rough on the cheap, and are able to squeeze the most out of them that they can. They absolutely know what they are doing.
  16. And for all the pessimists who said Shaw couldn't play 2B - 502 to Right, I'm looking at you.
