  1. I'm not all that convinced Dubon is ever a first division starter at any position so I'm not all that disappointed in him being traded. I'm pretty meh on this trade, but it's sorta quantity over quality so far. Acquired 4 guys and hopefully 1-2 of them are useful this year.
  2. Vargas is about as useful as Lyles, but way more expensive. So I suppose Lyles makes somewhat more sense for the brewers than Vargas.
  3. Easier to get angry though. This is a good and overlooked point.
  4. I'm interested in Robbie Ray, Zack Wheeler, and Tanner Roark from a SP perspective. Greinke too... but his no trade clause could complicate things. Before the Woodruff injury I wasn't all that worried about adding a starter. Figured they could piece it together enough and still get a playoff spot. Now that Woodruff is out for ~6 weeks and who knows what's up with Gio... I think they'll need someone in addition to just Lyles. A whole host of relievers would make interesting trade targets. Just make the best deal(s) you can for a reliever.
  5. I'm sort of indifferent on this move. They probably needed a starter to make a start in Oakland. Get a deal done today without giving up much of anything. Figure out the rest later. The Cubs traded for Maldonado because they needed a back up catcher for two weeks while Willson Contreras was on the IL. I wouldn't get too concerned about this trade for the Brewers.
  6. If Sogard can play a decent SS, he would be a pretty solid addition at the deadline actually. Cain Yelich Moose Hiura Grandal Thames Braun Sogard P Obviously you're missing the defensive stud...but that lineup doesn't really have a hole anywhere. If he can't play a solid SS, he wouldn't be a bad guy to look at but I don't think he'd be a great fit. The Brewers didn't have a problem playing him at SS in 2017 and 2018. Like you said, it's not a perfect fit. None of these guys are perfect fits. SS is actually a pretty deep position these days and the Brewers have one of the worst in the league, but I also don't think it's their biggest need. If they can add one of the guys I mentioned for a minimal cost I'd be fore it.
  7. Doesn't affect me. I always go through the bag free line anyway. Probably a good choice even though the reaction on twitter is all "Brewers need better screening practices. Stop blaming the fans!"
  8. I'm not overly concerned about adding a SS at the deadline. If anyone though, Jose Iglesias, Freddy Galvis, Miguel Rojas, and Eric Sogard all make some sense.
  9. I think Giannis, Bled, Midds, and Brook are all similar in MPG as last year (28-32 mpg). I think we may see a few more rest days for those guys this season though. Having a true back up 5 this year and having a true back up PG from day one this year could help lighten the load of Bled and Brook. If memory serves, bud would mostly go with a 10 man rotation during the regular season. Ersan, Matthews, Korver, Robin, and Hill are all likely start the season in the rotation. So that leaves three of DJ, DDV, Brown, and Pat out of the rotation to start the season, but as we saw last year they'll all get an extended run as part of the rotation. I think it was most obvious with Pat Connaughton. Korver is most likely to fall out of regular rotation minutes and potentially be used as more of a specialist. TL;DR we should feel pretty comfortable with the depth of this team and excited where they are at from day 1 in 2019 vs where the roster was on day 1 of 2018.
  10. CP3 is an interesting trade target. This couldn't happen for a while yet due to trade restrictions, but once those restrictions are lifted a trade along these lines might make sense: Bucks get Paul Thunder get Bledsoe, Ersan, Robin Lopez, and someone like DJ Wilson. This probably makes the Bucks worse in the regular season, but probably makes them better in the playoffs the next year or two. I'm not as doom and gloom about Bledsoe in the playoffs as some fans, but he had a pretty poor track record so far. Paul can still shoot and can play better off ball than Bledsoe can. Robin Lopez isn't going to play in the playoffs. DJ Wilson probably isn't either. There are legitimate chemistry concerns with Paul at this point based off of all the reports coming out. Ultimately winning cures most things though. I don't think this is a slam dunk decision for the Bucks if Paul is still available once the Bucks can trade Bledsoe and Lopez, but it's definitely an interesting discussion.
  11. I'm disappointed Brogdon is gone. He was one of my favorite players. Having said that, I'm cautiously optimistic that Matthews will be able to slide into that starting role and be able to hit a bunch of open threes. His 3p% on open looks last season was basically the same as Brogdon. He won't be the primary ball handler with bench units though. I hope they use Midds + 4 bench guys like they did with Brogdon last year. Ultimately, I think it's important that either Sterling or DDV development into that starting SG spot. I feel good about where the Bucks are at for the first 11 spots/likely rotation guys. Add a couple of 2-way contracts and a see what's left of the vet minimum guys in a few weeks.
  12. Looking through the potential rental SP arms out there and it looks like if we are going to see any improvement from the pitching staff this season it's going to have to be through internal improvement or the bullpen. The only worthwhile rental SPs out there who will like be moved are Bumgarner, Roark, and maybe Alex Wood if he can come back healthy this month. Zack Wheeler too if the Mets decide to sell. I don't think the Brewers have the bullets they're willing to part with to get any of the SPs under team control past this season.
  13. I agree that this is a factor. Being a good teammate and well liked in the clubhouse matters in ways we as fans can't understand. We saw it last year when Arcia was optioned. Players were somewhat openly unhappy even though he was not producing at the plate. I don't, he isn't even getting an opportunity let alone more. He has started 6 games in the last 28 days. He is just a guy on the roster and I am not sure why the Brewers haven't gotten rid of him, but it seems clear they don't really care for him anymore. They also don't seem to care if he gets going or not anymore either. "Intangibles" aren't the only or the biggest factor in roster decisions, but I do believe they play a factor. Example: the Brewers could have optioned Shaw and kept Hiura up with the team. The recent performance would have totally justified that decision. Some fans/radio hosts were calling for this to be the move. But track record, relationship of players to management, clubhouse dynamics, etc all likely played into the decision. Ultimately Aguilar won't stick around the entire season just because he's a nice guy. He will need to perform at some point and they're likely coming up on that decision if he doesn't show some consistent signs of life soon. I just think there are many things that play into roster decisions and not all of them are on field performance. [sarcasm]At least they've already gotten past his bobblehead day[/sarcasm]
  14. I agree that this is a factor. Being a good teammate and well liked in the clubhouse matters in ways we as fans can't understand. We saw it last year when Arcia was optioned. Players were somewhat openly unhappy even though he was not producing at the plate.
  15. He last pitched on 6/12 so he'd be on "normal" rest for other teams. The Padres apparently have been keeping their starters on an "extra" day of rest this season.
  16. Yes! 6/19/18 v Pitt 6IP 0R 7K 0BB 6/26/18 @ KC 7IP 0R 10K 1BB But that looks like the only time lol. He's had a couple other times where he had a really good start and an ok start back to back though.
  17. I think Yelich is going to be voted in as a starter. Moustakas has a solid chance to be voted in as a starter as well even though Atlanta fans have been voting heavily so far. Moustakas should get in as a reserve if he's not voted in as a starter. Grandal will hopefully get into the top three to move on, but I don't see him beating out Willson Contreras for the starting role. Even if he isn't voted in as a starter, I'd be shocked if he isn't selected as a reserve. Hader will probably be selected. I don't really think Davies or Woodruff will get in. I think Davies, as of today, is the more likely selection.
  18. Good news: the Astros are down Correa, Altuve, and Springer. The Brewers also miss Cole. Bad news: the Astros have a bunch of other really good hitters and the Brewers have to face Verlander and Peacock. I'm hopeful for a split.
  19. I'd trade Burnes+ for Trevor Bauer if the Indians shop him. I wouldn't trade him for a half season of Bumgarner though.
  20. Ya that's fair, if Aguilar hits well that really clears things up and is best case scenario for the team. The arbitrary end points you posted are sorta misleading though. You start it with a hot two game stretch where he hit 3 homers and it inflates the other 90ish PAs he's had since that time (232/360/319).
  21. I think the Brewers need a reliever. Similar to the Soria deal from last season. They might need a right handed bat who can play first if Aguilar doesn't get it going. Realistically a lot of the offensive concerns would be alleviated if Shaw and Aguilar get going. Here are some thoughts on some right handed/switch hitter targets: Neil Walker- having a nice season. Currently on the IL, but can't really hit as a righty anymore Smoak- having a nice season, but is way better as a lefty than righty Abreu- mediocre season, but hits lefties pretty well. White Sox may not want to move him Howie Kendrick- Probably my #1 target if they can't get Aguilar going. Obviously some injury concern, but the way Thames is hitting the Brewers wouldn't need him to play everyday. Biggest obstacle might be Washington's unwillingness to sell. Logan Forsythe- would be a good move as well if the Rangers decide to sell. Having a really nice season and is playing a lot of first base for them. Todd Frazier- if the Mets sell he could be a good pick up. Offers third and first base coverage and a nice righty bat.
  22. I don't think they needed to make this decision today and explained why earlier in this thread, but even that proposal was just kicking the can down the road till the end of next week. I think Shaw is important to this team and getting him going is important to the Brewers ultimate goals this year. I just don't like demoting your best prospect you've had in years after he's been really successful in his short stint with the team.
  23. Baseball prospectus also at 72%. With a relatively soft schedule between now and the all star break, the Brewers have a real chance to compile some wins over the next month.
  24. Fair point on Thames playing OF in Houston. Probably not needed since they have the DH available and if they want to fit his bat in the line up there are better ways to do it. Just eye balling it, the Brewers probably get Peacock and Verlander in that series, both tough righties. So getting Shaw, Moustakas, Thames, and even Gamel in there might be a priority. You can get all of those guys in the line up and still play Hiura at 2b.
  25. I'm super excited for Jimmy. Just getting through this season healthy will be a huge win. Assuming he comes out of Wednesday's start ok... I wonder what they'll do with his next start. Do they let him pitch on normal rest @Houston or do they bounce his start back a couple days and give him game 1 @SF. Personally, I kinda like the idea of giving him a little extra rest + the easier assignment @Sf and pitching Davies and Woody on normal rest @Houston.
