  1. Schoop has been on a tear recently. I'd probably put him right in the middle of the order. Cain CF Yelich RF Braun LF Schoop 2b Aguilar 1b Moustakas 3b Pina C Arcia SS
  2. Braun does have a 6 game hitting streak, so probably time to have him in the lineup more often while he's hot. And though Aguilar only has a .202 AVG this month, he still has a .770 OPS. Braun almost assuredly be in there tonight and tomorrow vs LH starters. I do think that based on this roster he should start vs every LHP, pinch hit, and defensive sub/double switch for Thames late in games. I know he's hitting the ball hard so things could change, but Thames is a better option vs RHP right now.
  3. Here are some of the high priced guys James Shields (pass) Marco Estrada (maybe) Tyler Chatwood (lmao) Gio Gonzalez- if he's pitching decently he probably won't clear waivers or get to the Brewers
  4. Saladino can be optioned. He makes the most sense. Arcia's defense at SS is too valuable and he is still likely the primary starter at ss for the rest of the season. Perez has slightly more versatility and can't be optioned. I don't see any obvious options from the pitching staff and think they'll need all of the relievers at least until they get to this off day next week.
  5. Hell of a game from the pitching staff and defense. Miley was spotting his pitches all night. I was so indifferent to the Miley signing this off season not expecting him to do much of anything if he even made the team. Happy to see him doing well. Pumped about this win.
  6. Maybe we see Schoop at 2b and Shaw get some starts at first against RHP. Thames starts in a corner outfield spot. I'm not writing off Aguilar just yet, but he wasn't ever going to be first half of the season good in the 2nd half.
  7. Doesn't make sense to try to get Schoop in there for tonight. He'll likely be starting at 2b on Wednesday and Thursday nights with two LHP going for the Dodgers.
  8. Adding good players to replace bad players on the roster is a good thing. A little odd, but I can dig it.
  9. So I just realized game 162 is on 9/30 and the NL WC game is on 10/4. So unless there is a game 163 the Brewers should be in good shape to pick whichever starter they feel most comfortable with even if it means their preference goes on 3 days rest. Then they will have a fully rested bullpen and can lean heavily on it like they did last night.
  10. I would agree. I'd almost prefer Hellickson because even though he doesn't strike anyone out, he at least doesn't walk anyone either.
  11. The Brewers might not have the luxury of lining up who pitches that theoretical WC game. Regardless, it very well might look like last night. 4 IP from a starter, 2 from Hader, 1 from Soria/JJ/Knebel.
  12. I think I'd rather just let Jimmy continue his rehab. He had a complex injury to the shoulder. The few innings he might pitch in 2018 aren't really worth the risk. Let him complete his rehab and get some rest.
  13. Fangraphs, Baseball Prospectus, and 538 are all converging on their Brewers projections. ~89 wins and 70-80% odds of making the playoffs. Let's see what those odds are after a 6-2 road trip!
  14. Brewers trade Thames to the Yankees for Sonny Gray Brewers trade for Bryce Harper. Get it done David!
  15. Going into the series I thought 3-5 was fine, 4-4 was acceptable, and anything better than that was gravy. I'm with you now though, 4-4 would be disappointing.
  16. Good win even if it was excruciating the whole way. Bullpen gives up 1 run over 5 IP? Can't complain about that.
  17. Is it possible the Twins overplayed their hand? Or maybe they actually will give Dozier the QO (which he should definitely take)
  18. Brewers: Yelich RF Moustakas 3B Cain CF Shaw 2B Braun LF Thames 1B Pina C Arcia SS Peralta P Dodgers: Pederson LF Machado 3B Muncy 1B Grandal C Bellinger CF Taylor SS Utley 2B Puig RF Maeda P
  19. I agree, make sense to get Aguilar a day off tonight. Braun is swinging it a little bit and with a righty starter you'll want all of Shaw, Thames, Moustakas, and Yelich in the line up.
  20. See below for full definition, but even Jimmy would be eligible if they make it (and they want to use him) http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/postseason-eligibility Postseason Eligibility Definition Per Major League Baseball's collective bargaining agreement, players must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for postseason play. Players must be on the 40-man roster, the 60-day disabled list or the bereavement/family medical emergency list as of midnight ET on Aug. 31 to be eligible for their respective clubs' postseason rosters. Consequently, players that are acquired via September trades or signed as free agents in September are ineligible for postseason play. Clubs can petition the Commissioner's Office to add any player that was not on the 40-man roster as of Aug. 31 -- provided the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing a player who has spent at least 60 days on the 60-day disabled list. The Royals were able to use this tactic to add Brandon Finnegan to their roster during the 2014 postseason, despite the fact that Finnegan was not on the 40-man roster as of Aug. 31. Additionally, all players who have served part of a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs in a given season are ineligible for postseason play that year.
  21. I think both guys will be up September 1. I even think if the Brewers make the playoffs, both guys could make the post season roster. You can get by with an 11 man pitching staff. 4 starters and 7 relievers. Broxton would be a PR and/or defensive sub for Thames. Santana could be another right handed power bat off the bench with Braun.
  22. Marco Estrada kinda seems like a Stearns move. FB pitcher with moderate strike out numbers and solid walk rate. Won't cost a lot either. Brewers have the highest defensive efficiency on fly balls in the MLB. I'm not advocating for him, but kinda fits the mold.
  23. Really hoping for a bounce back from Peralta today. Dodgers are an interesting match up for him. Pretty much all of their guys walk a lot, but many of them strike out a lot too. Tons of power and a lot of it from the left side too. Tough assignment for him.
  24. A starter makes sense for obvious reasons such as their depth was hurt by losing Suter till 2020 and no real timelines for Jimmy or Davies. Catcher really only makes sense if they get Realmuto (highly unlikely) or Ramos (seems possible, but a risk since he's currently on the DL). I wouldn't make a move for a time share/back up type guy like Mesoraco or AJ Ellis. I think Pina and Kratz have a good rapport with the staff. It could be coincidence, but when Nottingham was up the staff was struggling a little bit. Didn't seem like they have the same chemistry and there seemed to be more mound visits. I'd hate to break up that chemistry at this point of the season. As far as Broxton goes, I'd hate to trade him at this point. As you mentioned, he'll be a key member of the September roster for PR and defensive sub. I think if they make the playoffs, he's probably on the roster too to fill that same role. You can go with an 11 man pitching staff for the WC game and NLDS.
  25. I'm kinda okay with that. I have a feeling he'll have contact issues as he moves up ala Phillips and Brinson. I kinda agree with this. I originally didn't think it would cost Ray to get Wheeler if they traded multiple guys in the 6-15 range of their system, but I'm actually ok with moving Ray for Wheeler after giving it more thought. As you point out, he has hit tool concerns. If Cain can stay in CF for the next 2-3 seasons, it's not all that difficult to find corner outfielders for a reasonable price on the trade market or free agency.
